I found Charity fairly late in my pregnancy for the hospital birth of my third child. I am in Burien, WA and Charity is in Lakewood,WA- I was concerned about the distance but was assured by Charity that it would be ok. I went into labor at 8pm 12/14/22 and let Charity know my contractions were 10 mins apart. At 10:40pm they were grouped to 6 mins for a while so I went to hospital at 11pm and was communicating back/forth with Charity via text. My daughter was born at 12:50am and Charity walked in after she was born and in my arms. I never was coached in the pushing positions (like I had requested from the start) that I needed to be in so my rectocele prolapse wasn’t aggravated- this never happened and now I’m left with a very serious prolapse that is negatively impacting my daily life. I felt cheated out of support, knowledge and financially ($850) at a most vulnerable time in my life.
From the start I didn’t feel like Charity was able to give me the time and attention I needed as a pregnant woman due to her busy life and schedule as a mom.I asked that Charity might donate her services to a low income mother in the future when she is able since she did not make it to my birth, and didn’t offer any partial refund after I requested one. She did not respond to that communication. I can’t recommend Charity as a doula as my previous experience with a doula was much better, my first doula was much more professional and made me feel like a priority and secure in my birth.

Monthly Doula check-ins in your home or via zoom (clients choice). The last check-in before 37 weeks is spent prepping nutrient-dense meals & snacks for you to have ready during your postpartum period. (3 hours in the client's home) During your prenatal check-ins, we will discuss navigating nutrition and simple meal prepping, birth wishlist, labor positions & comfort measures, touch on your visits with your provider and go over any questions or concerns you may have. I pull from my extensive background in strength and nutrition coaching to guide you through the healthiest pregnancy possible and to help you troubleshoot nutrition & self-care challenges during the immediate postpartum period. In-home postpartum visit (4 hours) includes a nourishing home-cooked meal and support so you may shower and rest. I will hold space for you to discuss your birth story if you wish and to process any emotions you are having.

Care philosophy

I am trained and certified with Doula Trainings International (DTI) as a Full Spectrum Doula (Birth, Postpartum, Abortion & Loss). I help families that want to have a better birth experience. Better then their mom's/sister's/friend's experience or even their own. Since every birth is different, I spend the prenatal visits listening to your hopes, fears, wishes and needs. Then we work together to create a plan to help you have the birth you want. We even go over how to have a better birth when things don't go as planned. When your birth time comes, I will be there to support you and your partner and serve as a guide for both of you throughout all of births stages. One family I supported, wanted a doula more for the partner, then the mom. It was his first birth and her 4th. She knew what to expect but her partner needed support to understand what he was seeing was normal and to stay calm. By keeping him calm and informed, she was able to give all of her attention to the birth and he was able to relax and be fully present for the birth of their son. I attune to each family's needs and support them in the way that they want.

Care philosophy

Every birth and every family is unique so my number one priority, is to attune to you and your family's needs. My goal is for you to have the best birth possible, whatever that looks like.

I am so grateful that Keigha was my doula for my first birth. Leading up to the big day, she was so supportive and encouraging and helped me feel confident things would go well. Most of my labor took place at home and she was by my side throughout all of it; using her essential oils and calming presence to help me through the sensations as it became more intense. She was also an enormous help to my husband, who was reassured by her confidence and grounded demeanor. When it finally came time to push at the birth center, I had incredibly painful back labor in the tub and was not sure I could withstand the pain. Keigha’s intuitive words were honestly what refocused my mind and she knew just what to say to help me deliver my baby smoothly. We are so grateful to her for helping us have a successful water birth for our child, and for everything she has done to support our family.

After giving birth to my first child at home on Christmas morning of 2022, I became passionate about birth. I believe we lack the aspect of a “village” in todays society, and it is my mission to help woman feel more supporting before, during & after birth. I am passionate about helping woman prepare for their journey in birth, rather it be there first or their fifth. I believe in supporting woman in their most fragile stage, postpartum by helping with household tasks, warm cooked meals, offering advice & support with break feeding and helping you find any extra resources you may need. I believe we as woman are so strong & capable of any birth we may dream of, and it is my mission to help you in any way possible to achieve that.

Care philosophy

I believe having a birth team who supports your dream & needs in birth is vital to have the birth you want. I believe you, as the mother growing your child, knows what is best over all else. I believe in connecting with your intuition & reclaiming your power as a woman to bring your child Earthside. I believe in Physiological birth and doing whatever I can to support you on that journey.

Rose Smith has been my doula for both my births. I first came to meet her through her exceptional childbirth educational course, and due to her passion, genuine care, and knowledge I immediately retained her as our doula not fully understanding how her involvement would help me through childbirth. On the big day she was accessible, supportive, and helpful in guiding us on next steps. At one point in the the midst of my labor she could sense my fear and confusion, without missing a beat she guided me to refocus, showed me how to reclaim my calm, and encouraged me that I could do this. It was that level of care that made it so simple to have her with me at my second birth. There she was again with the same level of care and support for our family again. If you are looking for someone who cares, is knowledgeable, and will support you then Rose Smith is a wonderful choice on one if the biggest days of your life.

McKenna was definitely God sent for us. During our first interview with her when we worried about the lack of support and receiving this from someone we do not know, McKenna was reassuring; her steady, thoughtful approach to how she can help us convinced us of her service.
Days leading up to my due date, she followed up everyday on any symptoms and discomfort I may have, often providing encouragement and home remedies.
After days of false labor, on the day I was actually in labor but yet doubtful, McKenna drove home immediately without a moments hesitation to help us fully aware this could turn to be another false labor day. From back rubs to ensuring I stay hydrated, to helping me through nausea and tracking contractions she was with us every step and brought in her understanding of what’s going on and coping mechanisms. Her knowledge and steady yet comforting support helped me through the birth of our darling baby boy. I’ll be ever grateful.

Jessica was our birth doula, and she also helped us with our newborn baby postpartum. We feel very lucky to have had her with us on this journey. From the first interviews and in person prenatal visits, to her supporting us in the hosipital as well as in our home, we have always felt we could trust her and lean on her experience. We had an induction on our due date and were planning to use epidural as pain management in late labor. It was a real scare when epidural wasn’t really working for me for at least a couple of hours (which in labor time felt like forever). Jessica’s presence really calmed us down, and with her help I was able to navigate the pain and panic until medication finally kicked in. Our birth experience was less stressful with her being there, and we also appreciated her staying a while after our baby was born to make sure we were comfortable and got everything we needed.

We also had Jessica as a postpartum doula for a few weeks, and she was so good with our baby girl and made it possible for me to go out and grab a coffee and have some selfcare time every now and then. Our daughter loves the reading, walks, and playtime they had together. AND, she gives great massages! We are so glad we found Jessica and we are thankful for all the help and support she gave us.

Hilary was an amazing source of knowledge and support for my husband and I. We hired Hilary to support us through the birth of our first child. I was initially hesitant about hiring a doula because it looked like I’d need a C-section. After getting the all clear for a vaginal delivery, we decided a doula would be a good option for us. As it turns out, I needed an emergency C-section. My birth ended up being so far removed from the birth plan I’d written, but the one constant was Hilary. Having her there with us allowed us to focus on the birth of our child and not how it was happening. She kept both of us calm and explained what was happening when the medical staff couldn’t. She definitely proved me wrong about needing a doula for a C-section! She continued to support us after birth with additional visits, frequent check-ins, and additional support. We’re so grateful we had Hilary as we entered this next chapter of our lives.

In the 12 years I have been a birth worker, my doula bag has become quite small. I have learned through experience, the families I have supported and the providers I have been a team player with, that there are only a few items really needed to support your birth preferences. Knowledge in the physiology of hormones, movement, space, emotions and breath. Experience in medical interventions and helping you to have productive conversations with your providers when they are needed, skill in comfort measures and massage (my hands are so strong:), and authentic words of encouragement, praise, and affirmation. I am best fit for a person who is wanting no or low interventions (in or out of the hospital): a VBAC or a free birth. My goal is to empower you and your labor partner so you can both be present in the event and have your best birth experience possible.

Care philosophy

Getting baby Earth side can be long, hard, powerful... and you can do it! I believe there is no right way to birth your baby. My philosophy is "Every pregnant person has the right to full informed consent, evidence based information, access to preferred model of care and support in decisions without cohesion or judgment."

From the moment we first spoke to Ryah we knew that she was the perfect fit as our Doula – she is incredibly warm, has such an extensive background, and food is one of her love languages! We had two prenatal appointments in which we discussed our birth preferences, learned stretches to do leading up to my due date, and practiced different techniques to try during early labor. She was also always available to reach via text or phone throughout my pregnancy.

Ryah was the most crucial person in helping my husband and I bring our baby earth side. She guided me through each contraction and continuously helped me stay centered and find my breath. She made suggestions of positions to try based on where the baby was to keep things progressing. She made sure my husband played an integral part in the experience and conveyed our birth preferences to the nursing staff. I ended up having an unmedicated birth, and I know this was only possible because she was there with me.

Once my baby was born, she helped him latch and stayed by my side to ensure that everything was okay. Since being home we’ve had a phone and in-person chat in which we processed my labor experience, and she made sure we were set up for the first few weeks postpartum. I am grateful that she is available throughout the 4th trimester! Aside from providing immeasurable support, she also took photos and video during labor which is the most special thing to look back on.

We are forever grateful to have found Ryah!

Samantha is my first doula and helped with the pregnancy and birth of my first child. I was a bit skeptical and wondered how much I needed a doula, and it turns out I needed her quite a bit. She is the most loving and supportive outside force I could have asked for. She built me up as a woman and as a mother which was much needed as I am in a new city and far away from my support group. She wasn’t able to physically be there for the birth, but when we found out we couldn’t have the birth we had dreamed of she was there in every other way, and I can honestly say that I couldn’t have made it through without her. She fought for me as a human, a woman and a mother. She will be my doula as long as she is practicing. I LOVE YOU SAMANTHA!!!

With the traumatic birth of my son, I became intimately familiar with how American healthcare fails people with the capacity for pregnancy. Having lacked support or education of any kind during the process, I now seek to guide clients through a far more positive experience, one that aligns with both the wants of the birthing-person as well as the health of parent and child. I am currently enrolled in Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Educator Training, as well as Childbirth Professionals International Doula Training. Having prior experience in doula work and successful births under my belt, I plan to continue my education to grow and better their understanding of the field.

Care philosophy

I believe birth is sacred, a gift given by our ancestors that deserves the utmost care and respect. My focus is to serve those that are the most vulnerable to the harm caused by our medical system, which includes people of the global majority, queer and trans parents, and disabled parents. I have a trans son, and another son born to a trans father. Families are diverse. Birth is no different.

Sage was my primary support while giving birth to my son. As a transman, the concept of giving birth in a traditional hospital setting was honestly kind of terrifying. Sage helped to keep me comfortable, keep labor going, and keep the staff from misgendering or dead naming me. I don’t plan to have any more kids, but if I do, I hope she’s there.

Alice was the perfect doula for me. She is a consummate professional: reliable, knowledgeable, warm, supportive, confident, all around great. She is your advocate, coach and teammate all at the same time. My birthing experience didn’t go as I expected, but Alice helped me navigate the twists and turns with encouragement and non-judgmental support. When I had to make tough decisions, her guidance gave me the confidence to know I was making the best choices for myself and my baby. My experience would have been exponentially more stressful for myself and my partner if she had not been there. I am so grateful she was part of my daughter’s birth.

I am born and raised in Seattle. I am a wife and mother of two littles and one furry baby. I have been an educator for the last 10 years, 7 of those teaching special needs students. As a birth worker, I have an empathetic approach to this work that centers around support and safety because our communities deserve deep and restorative care. As well as physical support during labor, my role is also to act as a bridge of communication for the birthing person and their family. Every birthing person deserves to have someone there to guide and assist them in making educated choices about their pregnancy, and remind them that they can trust the strength of their bodies during this time. www.laboroflovedoulallc.com

Care philosophy

Community-based doula support is important because experiences differ between groups, and families deserve to have their support person be someone who can understand their experiences and empathize with their concerns and fears. I believe the most effective change occurs when communities are empowered and able to take care of their own. I’m here to provide unbiased information, emotional support.

I was called to birth work over 20 years ago, after assisting the arrival of my youngest sister. Birth is a human right, and I believe all humans deserve a safe and supported birth. I began my doula training in 2017 with ToLabor. I had my first child in 2019, with a doula by my side and it cemented my desire to support other laboring persons on their path. I am certified with PALS as of 2021, and ToLabor as of 2022. I am married and have 2 children. One was a birth center transferred to the hospital pre labor and the other was born at home in a tub. I h a p p i l y support any and all birth scenarios. I am fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. Prenatal Care: 2+ visits to answer questions, review or create birth preferences, go over comfort measures, set up a postpartum plan, share resources and get to know each other. I'm available your entire pregnancy via phone/text/email. Labor/Birth: I will be on call 24/7 2 weeks prior to your EDD and until you go into labor. Once I join you, I will be a continuous support physically and emotionally through your entire labor (barring any extraordinary circumstances). Post Partum: I will visit 2-3 times (more can be arranged) to ensure your needs are being met, you are feeling supported & connect you with any resources you need. I'm available as much as you need those first few weeks! You can visit www.goldenbirthdoula.com to learn more. Reach out to schedule a free consult!

Care philosophy

My passion is education and sharing evidence based resources with a particular heart for post partum planning/support. I want you to be an active participant in your own pregnancy/labor, and provide you with everything you need to make informed decisions and feel powerful in this process. My support is for both the birthing person AND a birth partner.

She is dedicated to ensuring that those around are comfortable and cared for, and that they have the necessary information and resources. She asks great questions and seeks deeper understanding. I always cherish an opportunity to spend time with her!

I have been a birth doula since 2018. I feel honored every time I am invited into a birth space. I love walking alongside pregnant people on their journey into parenthood. I am available to parents from the time of hire by phone, email, and zoom check in. I provide two prenatal meetings to discuss birth preferences, coping measures, partner support, postpartum planning and more. I am on call for parents at 38 weeks and provide continuous support on the labor day until 1-2 hours after the birth. I provide one in-person postpartum visit to help process the birth and provide resources, and an optional second postpartum visit via zoom.

Care philosophy

I honor the remarkable differences in each birth story, and hope to encourage parents to trust in themselves and the birth process. I am also a certified birth photographer and childbirth educator. I love providing resources for parents, helping them navigate decision making in labor, and telling birth stories with my photography.

I am so happy that I found Nancy for my birth services. My birth center highly recommended her as one of the area’s best. I originally signed up just for Nancy’s Hypnosis for Birth classes and discovered she was also a birth doula. After her consultation call, I knew I had to sign up for both services!

Her hypnosis classes were by far the best birth classes I had ever taken. I took a birthing class with my firstborn, but I didn’t feel like it gave me tools I could use for labor. However, I became so prepared with Nancy’s and learned SO much! These classes are a MUST for anyone who is expecting.

As my doula, I trusted her and felt safe in her knowledge when it was time to get to the birthing center. She knew it was time to go as soon as I called her, which was helpful because I wasn’t sure if it was yet that close to giving birth. She ensured I was comfortable during my labor and that both my husband and mother felt a part of the experience.

If you can work with Nancy, I highly recommend it! If you can take her class and hire her as a doula, it is the BEST combo! I recommend Nancy to any expecting mother who wants to feel confident and have actual tools to help support her during labor.

I've always had a passion for helping others, and my own complicated journey to parenthood sparked the fire to help others have the best possible experience in their own. Through my personal experiences with bereavement and infertility, I developed a special interest in helping people going through more uncommon circumstances. I'm especially drawn to help people that regular society tends to overlook or frown on, so my greatest heart work is with POC, the LGBTQ+ community, and teens who may be lacking adequate parental support. I also offer abortion support.

Care philosophy

I believe that all pregnant people deserve compassionate care and support, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or economic status. A healthy baby starts with a healthy and supported pregnancy and birth.

Cynthia supported the birth of my 4th baby during the pandemic in 2020. At the time I was couch surfing with my 3 older kids and was planning to have a home birth. Things were scary and unknown but when Cynthia became my doula, I felt a safe. She did everything in her power to support me and my wishes. Cynthia provided appointments and information prior to birth. Showed up as a strong and steady force at my birth. Supported me postpartum with meals, encapsulating my placenta, making postpartum tinctures, meals. Etc. I recommend her services to everyone I know. She cares deeply about her clients and supporting women to achieve their dream birth.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Bellevue, WA.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a doula in Bellevue, WA is NA, but typically ranges from NA to NA. These costs are based on a representative group of doulas surveyed by Meela in the Bellevue and Seattle areas. The average cost of a doula in Bellevue, WA is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of Washington, which is $1,037.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Bellevue, WA is NA the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Bellevue, WA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Bellevue, WA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Bellevue, WA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Bellevue, WA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Bellevue, WA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Bellevue, WA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Bellevue, WA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Bellevue, WA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
