  I found Charity fairly late in my pregnancy for the hospital birth of my third child. I am in Burien, WA and Charity is in Lakewood,WA- I was concerned about the distance but was assured by Charity that it would be ok. I went into labor at 8pm 12/14/22 and let Charity know my contractions were 10 mins apart. At 10:40pm they were grouped to 6 mins for a while so I went to hospital at 11pm and was communicating back/forth with Charity via text. My daughter was born at 12:50am and Charity walked in after she was born and in my arms. I never was coached in the pushing positions (like I had requested from the start) that I needed to be in so my rectocele prolapse wasn’t aggravated- this never happened and now I’m left with a very serious prolapse that is negatively impacting my daily life. I felt cheated out of support, knowledge and financially ($850) at a most vulnerable time in my life.
  From the start I didn’t feel like Charity was able to give me the time and attention I needed as a pregnant woman due to her busy life and schedule as a mom.I asked that Charity might donate her services to a low income mother in the future when she is able since she did not make it to my birth, and didn’t offer any partial refund after I requested one. She did not respond to that communication. I can’t recommend Charity as a doula as my previous experience with a doula was much better, my first doula was much more professional and made me feel like a priority and secure in my birth.

I have been providing support to Families since 2016. Whether this is your first pregnancy or fifth, you can benefit from having a doula or taking one of our highly sought childbirth classes. This is my calling, passion. I would be honored to serve you!

  Rose Smith has been my doula for both my births. I first came to meet her through her exceptional childbirth educational course, and due to her passion, genuine care, and knowledge I immediately retained her as our doula not fully understanding how her involvement would help me through childbirth. On the big day she was accessible, supportive, and helpful in guiding us on next steps. At one point in the the midst of my labor she could sense my fear and confusion, without missing a beat she guided me to refocus, showed me how to reclaim my calm, and encouraged me that I could do this. It was that level of care that made it so simple to have her with me at my second birth. There she was again with the same level of care and support for our family again. If you are looking for someone who cares, is knowledgeable, and will support you then Rose Smith is a wonderful choice on one if the biggest days of your life.

In the 12 years I have been a birth worker, my doula bag has become quite small. I have learned through experience, the families I have supported and the providers I have been a team player with, that there are only a few items really needed to support your birth preferences. Knowledge in the physiology of hormones, movement, space, emotions and breath. Experience in medical interventions and helping you to have productive conversations with your providers when they are needed, skill in comfort measures and massage (my hands are so strong:), and authentic words of encouragement, praise, and affirmation. I am best fit for a person who is wanting no or low interventions (in or out of the hospital): a VBAC or a free birth. My goal is to empower you and your labor partner so you can both be present in the event and have your best birth experience possible.

Getting baby Earth side can be long, hard, powerful... and you can do it! I believe there is no right way to birth your baby. My philosophy is "Every pregnant person has the right to full informed consent, evidence based information, access to preferred model of care and support in decisions without cohesion or judgment."

  From the moment we first spoke to Ryah we knew that she was the perfect fit as our Doula – she is incredibly warm, has such an extensive background, and food is one of her love languages! We had two prenatal appointments in which we discussed our birth preferences, learned stretches to do leading up to my due date, and practiced different techniques to try during early labor. She was also always available to reach via text or phone throughout my pregnancy.

  Ryah was the most crucial person in helping my husband and I bring our baby earth side. She guided me through each contraction and continuously helped me stay centered and find my breath. She made suggestions of positions to try based on where the baby was to keep things progressing. She made sure my husband played an integral part in the experience and conveyed our birth preferences to the nursing staff. I ended up having an unmedicated birth, and I know this was only possible because she was there with me.

  Once my baby was born, she helped him latch and stayed by my side to ensure that everything was okay. Since being home we’ve had a phone and in-person chat in which we processed my labor experience, and she made sure we were set up for the first few weeks postpartum. I am grateful that she is available throughout the 4th trimester! Aside from providing immeasurable support, she also took photos and video during labor which is the most special thing to look back on.

With the traumatic birth of my son, I became intimately familiar with how American healthcare fails people with the capacity for pregnancy. Having lacked support or education of any kind during the process, I now seek to guide clients through a far more positive experience, one that aligns with both the wants of the birthing-person as well as the health of parent and child. I am currently enrolled in Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Educator Training, as well as Childbirth Professionals International Doula Training.   Sage was my primary support while giving birth to my son. As a transman, the concept of giving birth in a traditional hospital setting was honestly kind of terrifying. Sage helped to keep me comfortable, keep labor going, and keep the staff from misgendering or dead naming me. I don’t plan to have any more kids, but if I do, I hope she’s there.

My practice currently primarily focuses on lactation care and support as an IBCLC, doing home visits in the South Puget Sound area. I do 1:1 prenatal visits to discuss past medical and breastfeeding history to create a plan to reach your feeding goals. I specialize in creating pumping plans, assessing possible causes for breast & nipple pain, determining adequate intake, planning for returning to work, introducing solids and safe weaning. If you have experienced infant loss, I can also guide and support your choices for either suppressing lactation or donating your milk. I also occasionally provide care as a night nanny or postpartum doula. Providing practical, hands-on support in the home during the fourth trimester brings me much joy. In the future, my practice will adapt to a continuous care model, starting from pregnancy, to birth, to postpartum. It is what I believe true “with-mother” care should look like. This package is right for those who choose to birth at home. It can be utilized alongside midwifery care, or can be adapted for those choosing to birth outside the medical system. Care will remain the scope that of an IBCLC, herbalist and doula (or birthkeeper), and will not be considered medical care. Lactation care involves listening to the mother, helping identify and meet feeding goals, give counseling and support, and work through various breastfeeding related issues that may afflict mother and baby. I have a degree in psychology, and have spent the past year growing my understanding of all things childbirth. As an infant nanny, I have extensive experience in individualizing care families need postpartum, and what methods work best for each baby and family dynamic. I continue these tenants in my birthwork, and spend ample time both pre and post birth connecting with families to make sure they can access the support they need. I have supported home birth, birth center birth, and hospital birth, and am very comfortable in all settings. I am also a Certified Lactation Educator, and am passionate about educating and supporting parents in their infant feeding journey. I offer two prenatals, full labor and birth presence, and two visits postparum.   Cynthia works hard to stay up to date and current on evidence-based information. She is empathic to the client’s needs and works well as a team with birthing families and other care providers. She is a strong advocate.

  Mia was an incredible comfort and support during the birthing process for my two youngest children.

After a long journey of trying to start a family of my own after being told I would never be able to I am now a mother of two beautiful kids and giving birth to them showed me what I really wanted to do with my life which was to help others feel as in powered as I was for both of my births and get the support and care that most people have a lack of.   Cynthia supported the birth of my 4th baby during the pandemic in 2020. At the time I was couch surfing with my 3 older kids and was planning to have a home birth. Things were scary and unknown but when Cynthia became my doula, I felt a safe. She did everything in her power to support me and my wishes. Cynthia provided appointments and information prior to birth. Showed up as a strong and steady force at my birth. Supported me postpartum with meals, encapsulating my placenta, making postpartum tinctures, meals. Etc. I recommend her services to everyone I know. She cares deeply about her clients and supporting women to achieve their dream birth.
