Laura Demercurio began her work as a Postpartum doula in 2008 after completing Nursing school. She was given the opportunity to work in the Postpartum and Nursery units where her love of the postpartum time began. This led her to take the CAPPA Postpartum doula training to gain more knowledge and start her path towards becoming a professional doula. After some time of working with women she noticed that there was something missing from the postpartum period and made it her duty to learn more. This desire led her to become a Certified INNATE Postpartum Care provider and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Since then her knowledge, practice and vision has evolved tremendously. Laura has a passion for empowering women to take charge of their health and is dedicated to the women she serves. She takes great joy in providing the traditional care that is often absent during the postpartum period and that is so needed for women, families and communities to thrive. Laura has experience working with high profile families, fully staffed homes and international travel. She is there to support women physically, emotionally and spiritually and to create a safe space where they feel nurtured, comfortable and safe.

Care philosophy

My passion lies in supporting mothers through the postpartum journey with a holistic approach rooted in traditional medicine and women's well-being. I believe in mother-centered care, prioritizing your recovery, long-term health, and emotional well-being during this transformative time. Let me empower you to navigate motherhood with confidence and joy.

Laura performed the closing of the hips ceremony with the postpartum bath for my second postpartum period. The ceremony is an absolute must for marking the importance of the postpartum period during a time that can feel very overwhelming and also forgotten. It brought so much to the surface and helped to remember all that my body, mind and spirit had gone through throughout pregnancy, birth and the immediate postpartum. I could feel as if my spirit was reunited with my body. There’s so much thought and nourishment that goes into this ceremony and I cant recommend the ceremony and Laura enough! Thank you so much!

I have the knowledge and training needed to educate new parents on how to care for their newborn by teaching them how to feed, bath and put babies down for naptime. I can help parents organize the nursery to make things more convenient and easier to handle. I am highly trained to take care of singletons, twins or even triplets, so parents with multiple newborns are not so overwhelmed and stressed. When I am available to care for newborns 24 hours a day, the new parents have time to adjust to having an infant in the home. It makes it possible for them to get the sleep they need so they can adjust slowly. Even parents who already have children at home can use the extra help, so they have time to take care of their other children.

Care philosophy

I have worked as a baby nurse for over 23 years and I enjoy helping new parents make the transition into parenthood, by teaching them how to care for the new addition to their family.

Helen has helped me with newborn care and postpartum support for both of my children. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have worked with Helen six years ago with my daughter and most recently with my son this past summer. Helen has worked with us in our home for many weeks. Helen is professional, organized, kind, gentle, thoughtful, and creative. She has a wealth of experience with newborns and taught me so much about how to be a parent with my first born. She got us on the right track with routines for feeding and sleep. Helen has great ideas and is a problem solver. She is fun to strategize with and a pleasure to have in the home. Helen was a great fit for our family and we recommend her to anyone expecting a baby or with a newborn. Helen is the best!

Rey was a huge support in our first few days as first time parents. She helped greatly with tips on how to breastfeed more effectively and was very knowledgeable about the proper nutrition needed to keep up milk supply. Her gentle and calming nature helped ease our anxieties and we felt extremely comfortable leaving our son in her care while we were able get a few hours rest

I have always been interested in birth, and how life is brought into this world. With a long background in Nannying and child care, I have experience in all aspects of caring for newborns and assisting families with the utmost love and respect. I was trained with Dona international in childbirth and breastfeeding education, learning all aspects of doula care and evidence based information. Whether it is in the hospital, birth center, or at home, I can help create a nurturing and calm environment to uplift and empower the birth person. In prenatal appointments and throughout the birth I can provide gentle massage, belly sifting, position changing, tens unit support, aroma therapy, guided meditation, reiki healing, cold and hot compresses, and physical/mental support to aid in pain management and provide an uplifting environment. These tools coupled with evidence based information and full emotional support, will be used to ease tension and empower the birth experience.

Care philosophy

Every birth is a beautiful blessing, and perhaps the most profound moment in many people's lives. I believe that doula support and guidance can educate, uplift and improve the birth experience and I feel so fortunate to help facilitate any birth persons journey. Emotional support, along with childbirth education, and creating a calm and meditative atmosphere are all elements used in my practice.

I really appreciated Natalie! She was very attentive, and always knew when to call. She asked me what my needs were and she cater to those her soothing voice was just what I needed when I was going through my contractions. And she was surprisingly strong enough to help me up. I would recommend Natalie to any expecting mother even my midwives who met her, loved her and said she was very nice. She showed a lot of love and care towards my newborn and I really appreciate it that. So if you’re thinking about having Natalie as a Doula, that would be a great choice, I recommend it!

I am an enthusiast of humans helping humans. Although I have not experienced any of my own pregnancies, I have physically, mentally, and emotionally with my mom's three experiences. I've seen my mom go through each pregnancy differently as well as each of their births being unique in their own way but beautiful in every way. I have experienced seeing a supportive birth team by your side helps every woman feel more empowered and supported during this beautiful experience. My reason for becoming a birth doula is to come alongside each woman to support their desired birth plan.

Care philosophy

As a doula, I feel the importance of being the best calming presence I can be, I've learned that just having someone there to listen, guide, and sometimes literally carry your weight can make your birth and postpartum experience all the difference. I connect with my clients on a deeper personal level and create that relationship bond rather than client and doula but coming together as a team.

We had the opportunity to work with Jillian throughout my second pregnancy. She was a referral from the doula we used during the birth of our oldest. Jillian was wonderful to work with throughout my pregnancy and delivery of my son. She was supportive, understanding of our needs/desires, attentive, and friendly. She knows what she is doing and also collaborates with each person to address needs and concerns. My son’s arrival was traumatic and Jillian was with us in each step. Her guidance and support were extremely helpful. Her postpartum visits were supportive to my entire family. She is passionate about this work and it shows. We were so blessed to work with her.

I became a certified lactation counselor in January 2023 and have since had the amazing opportunity to help facilitate the in person, skills days portion of LATCH on IE with the Inland Empire Breastfeeding Coalition. I am continuing my lactation specific education and look forward to supporting families in their infant feeding journey. In June 2023 I completed my Full Spectrum Doula training and am currently completing the requirements to become a certified Postpartum Doula. As a postpartum doula, my role can be flexible and my goal is to make sure both infant and parent(s) are well cared for. I provide support with infant care, feeding, and sleep as well as preparing meals for the parent(s) and helping with light housekeeping. When the baby is older, I can also support with introducing solids. Prior to becoming a CLC and postpartum doula, I was a nanny and have provided care for children ages 0-4.

Care philosophy

Introducing a newborn to your family while healing your body is a delicate and vulnerable time. Parents deserve non-judgmental, compassionate, and collaborative care. As a postpartum doula and certified lactation counselor, I provide care to both the infant and the parent(s) and view both as equally important.

Brittany is amazing! I was a few months into my breastfeeding journey and suddenly having supply issues. I was really stressed and not sure what to do. Brittany took the time to listen to me and asked all the right questions so that together we were able to get to the root of the problem. She was full of helpful advice and suggestions, and she had so many great ideas that I implemented right away. I left our session with a plan and felt so confident, I was no longer feeling anxious. She made me feel so much better, and things started to improve for me and my baby soon afterwards! I can’t say enough great things about Brittany, she is so knowledgeable, but more importantly she really listened to me without judgement. She wanted to help me reach my breastfeeding goals and collaborate with me on a plan to get there without her own agenda. Thank you so much Brittany!

Tamica, I can’t express the gratitude that my family has for you. You have forever changed all of our lives for the better. Your compassion, patience and attention to detail (emotional, metal & physical) is something I will always try to achieve for myself.

After three weeks of bed rest, I thought I was prepared for Lucca to make her way earth-side. But through her birth and all of the unexpected steps my labor required (the magnesium) to get her here safely, I can’t imagine how Trace and I would have coped through all of that if it weren’t for you. You’d think with baby number four we would be seasoned pros. But that simply wasn’t the case.

You have such a remarkable soul. Thank you for making such a special impact on our family. We Will remember you forever.

I have been practicing as a full spectrum doula since 2014, beginning by training with The Doula Project in New York as a birth doula and a perinatal loss and abortion doula, and then becoming a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula through Doula Trainings International. I have worked with clients who speak French, Spanish, and English, and am proud to offer services in these three languages. My approach is evidence-based and my practice centers on healing and working to end systemic disparities in care. I seek to witness each person’s experience, to offer nonjudgmental support, a feminist, queer and anti-racist lens, and a grounded and adaptable presence. I am deeply grateful to the community with whom I continue to build and grow.

Care philosophy

I believe that everyone is the expert on their own body and life and deserves to be held with care through life's transitions. Welcoming a child, birthing, and becoming parents are sacred processes. I work with birthing people, their partners,+ surrogates as they embrace + remember their power to sustain through change. Hi my name is JoseIyn but my family and friends call me yose. I am a holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Educator, and Birthrights advocate in Orange County, California. My passion for Birth work began in 2020 when I got pregnant with my daughter Kailani. During pregnancy I prepared mentally, physically, and spiritually for labor, but did not prepare for the postpartum period. With no family or support around it made my 4th trimester a very difficult time for me and my partner. This is what made me more passionate about supporting parents during the postpartum period. I completed her Birth Worker training with Bebo Mia Inc when her daughter was only 3 months old. After the training I realized that I wanted to take a more ancestral approach in birth work, and began learning about Mexican Indigenous Birth and Postpartum Traditions. I am constantly growing and learning! As your Doula I will walk with you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Hi there! My name is Briauna Smith and I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula located in the Los Angeles area. Something unique about my practice is that I offer more than just the two standard prenatal visits. This is because I understand that a positive birth experience requires a comfortable atmosphere, so it's important that we get to know each other! It's my goal to help you prepare for the birth you envision and to set you up for success during your postpartum period. I offer additional services such as childbirth education, placenta encapsulation, and more. I birthed my little one a little over a year ago at home (doula and midwife in attendance), which is what ultimately led me to doula work. I believe every woman, every family should be informed about their options and have the opportunity to have the birth they envision. When I'm not visiting with clients or at a birth, I run a natural skin care business, do some nutritional consulting, and am expanding my herbalism practice. I love to cook and read, but I'm mostly adjusting to and enjoying motherhood in my free time.

I found my way to the birth world after having a very long and challenging labor with my first child. Through the 3 day process, I could not imagine having done it without my doula. I want to make sure every birthing family feels empowered during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. Being a Lactation Consultant I can help ensure your breastfeeding journey gets off to a great start and help you should you encounter any challenges along the way. I'm happy to support families from preconception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, as well as through miscarriage/loss/abortion. I love introducing women to the ancient practice of vaginal steaming so that they may prepare for labor, shorten labor, and help them heal postpartum all in a very relaxing way. I love to ensure that new families, in particular the birthing person, are well cared for as they adjust to life with a newborn. For postpartum clients I enjoy cooking nourishing meals and being a supportive, encouraging, and knowledgeable guide. As a mother of 2 myself, I know how valuable support throughout your transition to parenthood can be. Feel free to message or email me to set up a time to Zoom or chat and see if I'm the right doula for you!

Care philosophy

I offer non-judgmental care to help you have a birth where you feel empowered and that look back on with fondness. From the first moment you spend in Natasha’s orbit, it’s abundantly clear why she chose the path of doula—or maybe that it chose her! Natasha is an incredibly calming, nurturing, and supportive presence, yet her confidence, assertiveness and poise radiate just as strongly. This unique combination of traits is absolutely key for a person serving that role.

I was fortunate enough to have Natasha right by my side as my doula and friend throughout my entire labor and birthing experience. She brought everything I needed physically, mentally and emotionally and intuitively always knew which tools to pull from the kit. She spoke up for me when it didn’t even cross my mind and she anticipated exactly when to lead with humor, when to cry with me, when to rub my shoulders, when to pull back my hair and when to just hold my hand. She effortlessly collaborated with the entire medical staff, making me feel like I was on a winning team. Her expertise, knowledge, assuredness and optimism gave me an overarching sense of security all along the way.

From my perspective, just the idea of having a baby is painful and scary no matter how you slice it…but somehow, Natasha also made it fun.

Birth and postpartum have always been very revered in my culture and I always say I have been a doula for my whole life because of this. I love to bring this idea of birth and postpartum as something to be celebrated to all kinds of cultures and backgrounds. I incorporate my knowledge as an herbalist, student midwife, and home-birth mother in offering support to families. I offer birth doula services that include birth prep and prenatal visits as well as mother-focused postpartum services.

Care philosophy

On birth: Every woman/birthing person deserves support, advocacy, and attention during her/their birth. As a birth doula, I offer that intuitive support. On postpartum: One of the three golden opportunities in life for deep healing both physically and mentally, I use this time to help a new mother heal using (rest, warmth, nourishment, and support).

Lucero was able to educate both my husband and I on what to expect throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Having her there every step of the way helped ease any worries we had as first time parents. She helped make my extremely long birth enjoyable and stuck with me the whole way through. Her postpartum care is top notch, she even helped me breastfeed after struggling to do so for weeks. I cannot recommend her enough!

My name is Michelle, I'm a mother of two boys, a healer and a birth and postpartum doula. My journey began when I became pregnant with my second son. I knew a home birth was the route I wanted to take, I became obsessed with learning everything I possibly could and I knew that becoming a doula is what I am I called to do. I decided to take the final step and enrolled in a doula training program, Bebo Mia support practitioner. I believe in the power and strength of a woman's body and I'm just here to remind you of that. My goal is to make sure you feel confident during all of your pregnancy, labor and postpartum. I provide evidence based care, along with unlimited emotional and physical support. I take a holistic approach, I provide childbirth classes, belly binding, tea blends, rebozo work, lactation education, baby wearing and placenta encapsulation. This is your journey, I'm here to make you and your family feel safe, loved and respected during our time together.

Care philosophy

I take a holistic approach along with evidence based care. I provide a environment with respect and without judgment. I believe in the power and strength of a women's bodily autonomy. To be a part of your village during prenatal, labor and postpartum is a honor and privilege in which I take pride.

Working with Michelle was one of the best decisions we made for me, my pregnancy, and our family. From our earliest interactions during her classes in our home, she demonstrated a depth of knowledge about evidence-based birth and was so patient when answering our questions and asking questions of her own to learn more about what I wanted for my hospital birth. I also love that she took time to get to know me and my husband as individuals and a couple. Not only did it demonstrate a sense of care for our family, but enabled her to understand our dynamic which helped when supporting both of us in labor and delivery.

As we got closer to delivery, Michelle answered all my texts and took time to check in with me via phone on the most difficult days. I always felt comfortable sharing my worries and fears with Michelle—she has a natural sense of empathy which made me feel so supported. When my birth plan changed and I elected to be induced, Michelle made sure I was informed and supported in my decisions.

After my daughter was born, Michelle’s support during the postpartum period was valuable beyond measure. From supporting my physical recovery and lactation, to helping me feel pampered in the comfort of home, and being someone I could cry/vent/laugh with is something that I’ll carry close to my heart for a long time.

The birth of my daughter is something I’ll never forget, and I am so grateful Michelle is entwined in that memory.

Jessamyn is a second generation birth professional and began her journey into birthwork after the birth of her own daughter in 2007. She has supported hundreds of families in their journeys of early pregnancy through the postpartum years in childbirth education, labor and birth support, and bodywork. She is passionate about guiding families in this life changing time through education and being a trail guide in their own birth, utilizing her intuition, years of experience, continued learning, and years of bodywork therapies. She guides clients towards self-empowerment and informed decision making, while also providing steadfast side-by-side, hand in hand support physically and emotionally.

Care philosophy

I'm often asked by expecting parents what my birth philosophy is. It is this: birth is a physiologic process. It is something that our bodies and babies innately know how to do. I'm here to support the process, connecting with my clients, exploring their fears, and hopes and intentions for their birth, and help tap into their own spiritual, physical and emotional knowing of labor and birth.

Jessamyn is experienced, supportive, kind and connected. She was basically our private tutor for all things pregnancy and birthing. What I liked most when we first met her was that she had hospital, birth center and home birth experience but wasn’t pushing us in any one direction, she was just supportive of us and our plan. We ended choosing to have a home birth with a midwife. My wife was in labor for around 18-20 hours at home and was very close giving birth but in the end she needed to rest so we ended up going to the hospital to have an epidural so she could sleep. Jessamyn was right there by our side after more than 36 hours. She worked harmoniously with the nurses and the medical staff while also advocating that the staff be transparent and communicate what they were doing when they were doing it. She enabled us to have a vaginal birth when it seemed the odds were against us. We are eternally grateful for the beautiful birthing experience she helped facilitate. She is a part of our family now.

I started Postpartum Connection & Wellness in the Spring of 2021, after witnessing firsthand the significant lack of support for postpartum families in the wake of global stress. Building on my background as a licensed clinical social worker, my goal as a doula is to provide you and your family with all of the information and support helpful to make the best decisions for you and your newborn. As a postpartum doula, I provide physical, emotional, and practical support that ranges from feeding, hygiene, engagement, and sleep of your newborn, processing both daily and larger stressors of the postpartum period with all family members, as well as helping with meal planning and prep, cooking, light cleaning, bodyfeeding assistance, and integration of older children and extended family.

Care philosophy

Supporting a postpartum family should be both holistic and empowering. Health and wellness are not just physical in nature, so as a doula I work to "meet the family where they’re at," both physically and emotionally. As your doula, I will work to connect with each family member to meet your overarching needs, and to assist with your newborn in whatever ways you identify as most helpful.

I wholeheartedly recommend Ashley Fryer! She is a passionate and gifted newborn specialist with a unique ability to come up with creative options to support both mother and child. She arrives early and stays late when necessary, and consistently seeks feedback while offering constructive advice. Ashley has a well-developed communication style. She provided emotional support to the entire family through her natural ability to nurture and communicate.
Ashley is thoughtful, patient and compassionate; dedicated and non-judgmental; loving and trustworthy; among many other qualities. She is a natural and supported me through the birth and early development of my first child–all during a difficult time of isolation during the pandemic. Ashley consistently surprised me and surpassed my expectations with her knowledge, care and experience. She provided me with practical support and advice from breastfeeding, to organizing my daughter’s nursery to sleep training. Her assistance was so complete that it allowed me to return to work full-time while also successfully defending my doctoral dissertation.
I highly recommend Ashley Fryer without reservation.

Hi! My name is Summer, and I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I completed my doula training in October 2023 with Doula Trainings International and am currently in the process of receiving my full-spectrum doula certification which I expect to receive in June 2024. Women’s health, specifically women’s reproductive and sexual health, has always been an interest of mine. But it wasn’t until college that I learned about maternal health disparities and inequities in the U.S., especially among women of color, and how doulas and their advocacy can greatly improve birth outcomes and experiences. My goal is to provide individualized emotional, physical, and educational support that can help women make informed decisions about their birthing journeys and serve as an advocate to ensure that those decisions are respected and adhered to as much as possible. I want to help mothers achieve their ideal birthing experience and will do so with compassion and open arms.

Care philosophy

I believe that the mother/birthing person possesses all the power in deciding how and what their birthing experience looks like. I'm committed to empowering and supporting you with whatever feels best for your mind and body and will advocate for the decisions you make each step of the way. I look forward to serving you with compassionate care and helping you along this exciting journey!

Hi, I’m Abby and I am a postpartum doula in Los Angeles, CA. I studied with DONA International and I’m in the process of completing my DONA International Postpartum Doula Certification. Previously, I spent 6 years working in childcare in NYC, spending most of my time with families of newborns, infants and toddlers which spawned my passion for this work. I am also an actor, audition coach and dancer! I completed my BFA at NYU, spent several years in the theater and moved to LA in the pandemic. In my practice, I provide according to your needs. I will help you care for baby, offer tips and a listening ear, cook nutritious meals (I’m also a great baker!), help out with big siblings, light cleaning, baby laundry, run errands and provide referrals when necessary. If bodyfeeding, I will provide guidance with latching and nursing positions as well as connections to lactation consultants in your area.

Care philosophy

I became a doula after understanding how little we are taught and prepped by our systems about the postpartum period. My goal is to smooth the bumps in the transition from birth to home. To help you build the systems that work for you. I want to foster the maximum amount of time and connection you have with your new baby and help you feel the most confident in this latest chapter.

Being French I had never heard about doula before. For my first pregnancy I knew I will not have an epidural and I needed someone to guide me this is when someone recommended Mathilde. She had been very supportive during my whole pregnancy, recommended me to use some self hypnosis. She never judged me, recommended me some practice but never imposed and most of all she listen to me and my wishes. The big day I sent her a message in middle of the night and she arrived ready to assist me and be there to be my voice to all the nurse to make sure they follow my birthing plan. She always included my husband, gave him and advised him how to be the best partner ever during this delivery. I could never dream of a better delivery and better doula. I recommend her 1000%.

These costs are based on a representative group of 103 postpartum doulas surveyed by Meela in the Los Angeles area. When hiring a postpartum doula in Los Angeles, CA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your postpartum doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

A postpartum doula in Los Angeles, CA is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Los Angeles, CA offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Los Angeles, CA can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Los Angeles, CA. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Los Angeles, CA, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Los Angeles, CA is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Los Angeles, CA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
