In everything I do, whether supporting families through postpartum care or preparing a nourishing meal, my driving force is a genuine love and care. I believe in infusing every moment with warmth, creating an atmosphere where love is not just a sentiment but a tangible presence. My goal is to spread a joyful spirit wherever I go, leaving behind a trail of positivity and heartfelt connections. It's more than a profession for me; it's a commitment to bringing comfort, joy, and a sense of community to those I have the privilege to assist.

Care philosophy

Hi, I'm Jala, your doula and food enthusiast! Inspired by my love for cooking and a deep commitment to addressing the lack of representation, especially of Black birth workers, I've chosen this path to ensure a supportive and inclusive birthing experience for all. I find immense joy in sharing my love for cooking with clients. Every meal is a chance to infuse warmth and care into your new journey!

My experience with Sheryll was absolutely amazing. I was a first time mom at the age of 46 and was seeking someone to help me through a stressful pregnancy and Sheryll was the sweetest and most patient soul. She is so soft spoken and full of amazing knowledge, and when it came time for delivery, she instilled a complete sense of calm in me. I highly recommend her as a Doula, she is wonderful.

As an ECE and preschool owner for almost 30 years, I helped countless families to navigate new parenthood as they grew their families. From practical support to tearful conversations, I witnessed, again and again, the emotional challenges of pp and the need for skilled, compassionate support. When I was pregnant with my 3 children, I too experienced the lack of authentic support for new moms. While each postpartum experience was different, I did not receive the support I needed. Today, as a Bay Area Postpartum Doula, I strive to create a warm and nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable and empowered throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. With years of experience and a deep understanding of the physical and emotional aspects of new parenthood, I am dedicated to helping you navigate this beautiful and transformative time in your life.

Care philosophy

Modern Mama Doulas welcomes everyone. I approach each growing family with sensitivity, understanding, Love and Support.

My journey in birth work started at age 12, when I had the unique experience of catching my little sister. At age 22, I started my work as a volunteer doula in Vermont, serving members in the community who lacked support. My early volunteer work gave me a deep understanding of how hospitals function, and how to work with medical staff towards the best possible outcomes for parent and child. I wanted to start working with families throughout pregnancy and in postpartum, so I received further training through DONA. Having been through two training programs has given me a diverse range of strategies to employ throughout my support. This work has been part of me forever, and I feel so grateful to have been invited to participate in many births since. I have experience supporting medicated and unmedicated births with first, second, and fourth-time parents, queer parents, low-income parents, autistic parents, non-native English-speaking parents, sexual assault survivors, people with depression, and parents of color at Kaiser (San Leandro and Redwood City), UCSF Mission Bay, CPMC, and John Muir Walnut Creek. I am a member of the queer community and this has influenced my belief that all bodies deserve respectful, compassionate, and culturally humble care.

Care philosophy

My role as a doula is to educate families and validate their preferences. I give birthing people and their partners the tools needed to make informed decisions and navigate their births with confident. My goal is to help you have a birth you take pride in, regardless of birthing location or ideals.

I highly recommend Morgan as a Doula. I think she is going to be the next big thing and feel really lucky to have been able to work with her on short notice for my first baby. She is extremely warm, detail oriented, reliable, professional, enthusiastic and positive, and open and collaborative. I interviewed several doulas, including one who has been running a group practice for 10 years, and Morgan was by far the most responsive to what I had said I was looking for, and had the most collaborative approach with my loved ones and hospital staff. During the birth she was extremely available and helped to create a positive and cozy atmosphere and made the hospital room feel more like home. She helped us think through some difficult decisions on the day of as well. After the delivery, my nurse went out of her way to comment on how great Morgan had been with the hospital staff and said they would love to work with her again. Overall it was fantastic to work with her and I can recommend her without reservations.

In our experience, Sydney was undoubtedly the best midwife at the birthing center we used for the birth of our son. Her breadth of knowledge, her kind and confident demeanor, and her support of parents advocating for themselves and their babies were more than we could have hoped for. She was able to allay our fears as first-time parents and guide us with generosity and deep knowledge of her field. At every impasse, she was able to either inform us of our options herself or direct us to the resources we needed. She is a natural educator, and clearly cares deeply about the people she serves. Sydney has great capacity for both the hands-on parts of midwifery as well as a masterful command of the logistical and administrative side of the business. There were midwives at the birthing center with many years more experience than Sydney, but no one gained our confidence the way she did. In addition to all this, we must add that Sydney simply has the gift. There is no other way to say it. Whenever you go into an environment and find a shining example of excellence born through both natural talents and hard work – it is undeniable to all.

Molly Charmstrong (she/her) is a hard-working Midwesterner with the heart of a California Poppy. She has been working with families and children while pursuing a wide variety of passions for over twenty years. As a nanny, elementary school teacher, camp instructor, international performer, and mother, Molly has developed the knowledge, empathy, and passion to help new and growing families. In 2017 after becoming a mother herself, Molly suffered postpartum depression for the first two years of motherhood. This was followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a breast cancer diagnosis, and its treatment. After emerging from these circumstances healthy and healing, it became clear that she must answer the call to begin the training and certification process as a postpartum doula. Molly is passionate about the work of helping new and growing families prepare, navigate, and honor the constantly changing realities of parenting with her soft, present, funny, strong, and calming force. Over the past year Molly has been working with several families and new parents in various support roles, and would love the chance to help your family as well.

Care philosophy

Molly believes that in order to strengthen, improve, and peacefully grow our communities, we must have happy, informed, healthy, nurtured, and supported families. Supported families can raise empathetic, resilient, curious children - who become empathetic, resilient, curious adults. These adults can create strong, steadfast, and peaceful communities. She’d use this time to do laundry or wash dishes and I really was able to focus on bonding with my baby and not about other things. She showed me how to keep my baby sleeping safe and helped me address my postpartum anxiety in so many ways.

My journey started when I finished my studies in early childhood education in Brazil and worked with children of all ages including children with emotional and behavioral disorders. One day I had a opportunity to help my friend on her postpartum and I felt so helpful and happy to give her the love and support she needed. After that I immersed myself in the world of motherhood, I felt so passionate and became a postpartum doula. I also had the amazing experience when I had my own sunshine boy, and being a mother is so unique and wonderful but also very challenging. Today I am so accomplished to do my job as a postpartum doula! I know the importance of having a Doula to help, and support a mother and family in their pre-birth, delivery and also in the difficulties encountered in the postpartum journey

Discuss birth wishes - understanding different procedures in childbirth and clarifying your preferences as a couple. 3. Work on your “Birth Plan”. Rosevera was a great support to my husband, the medical staff, and especially to me in helping me emotionally and physically with moving and trying different positions. This was especially helpful in progressing the labor and allowing me to progress without an epidural. As soon as we met Carla, I knew she was a good match for us. I felt like I’d known her for years and she was super open for our thoughts as well. She is the perfect balance of knowledgeable, kind, professional, and positive.

With a background in education and childcare, I bring with me a unique understanding for supporting transitional times for families and my focus is on your entire family unit as it grows and shifts. I believe in evidence based, trauma-informed care that centers your body autonomy, prioritizes your needs, and celebrates your existence. Drawing from my background in dance and massage therapy, I love combining therapeutic movement and bodywork to help you harness your strength and feel rooted through change. I’m here for you as a source of loving care, to help you make informed decisions, and to make sure you and your baby are fully supported and nourished throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Prenatally, my clients receive 2 prenatal sessions which include childbirth education, nutrition consulting & self care techniques as well as preparation for labor (including birth plan guidance, comfort measures, optimal labor positions, partner/support person guidance and coaching). We also cover postpartum planning and preparation prenatally. One prenatal will include a private yoga and guided relaxation session and one massage. I offer phone, text & email support starting the moment you hire me. I offer on-call support starting at 38 weeks and 24/7 continuous labor and birth support and immediate postpartum care at your birthing location. I include 1-2 postpartum home visits in my practice. This may include newborn care, new parent care, healing and recovery, sibling care, lactation support, light housekeeping and meal preparation. I offer hourly postpartum doula support separately as well, which focuses on taking care of you so you can take care of your baby. As your doula, I offer physical and emotional support, I help build your confidence, and I assist you in finding reassurance and joy in your prenatal, birth and postpartum experience. I’m here to prepare your body and mind for an empowered birth experience that lets you feel safe, trusting, and in control, every step of the way and sets you up for sustainability long into parenthood.

Care philosophy

I believe in evidence based education and nourishing, custom care tailored to your unique needs and desires. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that there is no “one size fits all” to the kind of support each birthing family requires. Through nurturing and unbiased care, I believe in bringing you the highest quality, holistic support backed by research and aligned with your goals.

Umi Care is founded and operated by two sisters who are passionate about supporting women, especially black and brown women, during their postpartum period. Only after becoming a mother/aunt, was it truly understood the level of care and support mothers need to properly heal, recover and rejuvenate after birth. We understand first hand mothers and families may not know what to expect and may feel overwhelmed during these first few weeks transitioning into postpartum. That's why we offer support to help you get through this delicate period with dependable support and advice. Our primary objective is to care and support mom so she can focus on healing and bonding with her baby.

Care philosophy

Umi care supports mother’s physical and emotional needs to encourage whole-body wellness. Mothers receiving prenatal & postpartum doula care are two times less likely to experience birth complications and significantly more likely to initiate breastfeeding. Doula Care has also been shown to assist new mothers in implementing healthy and informed behaviors.

Having Auriel at my birth was like having an angel watching over me. She was so quietly attentive during my entire labor and didn’t give up on me even when the hours stretched on. Her energy is very grounding and I felt so safe near her. The continuous care she gave us after our baby was born was amazing, I don’t know how I would have handled those first few weeks without her.

Hello, I’m Kelsey Dial. I am 25 years old but have been told I’m an old soul with strong motherly love! I’ve been a nanny for 10 years and specially wanted to be a nanny or babysitter for the youngest babies I could possibly care for. I’ve always had a passion for newborn babies and pregnancy as it has always fascinated me. I love the miracle of life, educating on what to expect, how to prepare, and reminding the birthing person how capable they really are! You are strong, and your body is made to do this, it’s all a mental and physical process but your mindset is most important. The more accepting you are of the situation, calm, collected and relaxed the smoother your birth experience can be. That’s why it’s great to have a calm and collected supporting doula in the room, like me! I’m very mellow, easy going, accepting of everyone’s different opinions especially when it comes to their birth experience. There is no right or wrong way to give birth, it’s your experience and yours only. I am there to support you fully in whichever way you choose every step of the way. The support I use provides 3 prenatal sessions, 24/7 support in the last weeks of pregnancy, full birth support, as well as 1-2 home visits after the birth to check in on mom and baby. As well as supporting siblings. I have taken prenatal yoga classes, rebozo class, & prenatal essential oils class.

Care philosophy

Birth is a normal, natural process that your body was perfectly designed to experience. As your doula I am here to support you in a way that allows and encourages you to achieve your goals and desires for birth, whatever they may be, as well as one that keeps mom and baby healthy. I am here for your mental, emotional and physical help.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, I have been passionate about women's health care for as long as I can remember! The innate strength of women and the miracle of birth has certainly helped shape my career thus far. In my nursing studies, I came to realize that not many women were aware of the many benefits of doula support. Access to doula care is not just important to me but has been shown to improve family outcomes and satisfaction. I want to be affordable and accessible to all women in the Bay Area, therefore I strive to offer services that meet your budget. While working as a doula, I also study nursing at Dominican University of California, in hopes of one day becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. Please visit my website at www.bayareaholisticbirthing.com/

Care philosophy

My philosophy surrounding doula work stems from the idea that women's bodies possess all the knowledge and strength needed for a successful labor and birth. Your body was made for this, and you are capable! I strongly support the notion that an optimal birth setting is one in which the mother feels safe, supported, and secure. As a holistic birth doula, I strive to provide a client-individualized

Lydia’a work is very thoughtful and knowledgeable. She worked with my family and I from the moment we found out we were expecting. Going into the experience as first time parents she helped us prepare every detail including birthing plans, delivery and postpartum care. We certainly will request her services for the next birth. Postpartum Doula Services: FAQs

For most parents, the transition into early parenthood is hard. Postpartum doulas in Oakland, CA offer all sorts of practical, physical, informational and emotional support to new parents. Postpartum doulas in Oakland, CA offer a wide range of after-birth support services, including:

  1. Caring for and assisting in the recovery of the birthing parent
  2. Providing breastfeeding and lactation support
  3. Offering advice for baby soothing, diapering and bathing
  4. Parent-baby bonding
  5. Caring for older siblings
  6. Light housework
  7. Night nannying or sleep relief services

Some parents require additional physical and emotional support due to their specific situation, lack of family support, or their particular lifestyle. A postpartum doula positively affects the entire family, as many postpartum doulas are involved in sibling care, housework chores, and educating clients on childcare information/techniques.

To find a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA, most parents recommend creating a job post on Meela and having uniquely qualified postpartum doulas near you (in your budget) reach out to you through the Meela app.

You can interview and chat with as many postpartum doulas as you wish and hire a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA with confidence. It is completely free to create a job post on Meela and find a postpartum doula. There are no commitments to hire any of the qualified and expert vetted postpartum doulas Meela brings you.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: Answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated postpartum doulas near you. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  2. Get your list of postpartum doulas: In a few hours, you will have a collection of postpartum doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience, and read reviews. You can chat with each postpartum doula to learn more about them.
  3. Hire a postpartum doula with confidence: Schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top postpartum doula choices. Hire your top postpartum doula and start getting the care you deserve.

To find a postpartum doula, you can also browse the available postpartum doulas near you in Oakland, CA and read reviews, compare pricing, experience and fit. Send the postpartum doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend reaching out to and interviewing at least three postpartum doulas before hiring a postpartum doula near you. After interviewing, hire the most qualified postpartum doula near you and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a postpartum doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA is $40 per hour, but typically ranges from $31 to $48 per hour. These costs are based on a representative group of 38 postpartum doulas surveyed by Meela in the Oakland area. The average cost of a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA is about the same as the average cost of a postpartum doula in the state of California, which is $39 per hour.

To put this in further context, the cost of a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA is higher than the U.S. national average cost of a postpartum doula, which is $37 per hour.

When hiring a postpartum doula in Oakland, CA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your postpartum doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

A postpartum doula in Oakland, CA is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Oakland, CA offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Oakland, CA can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Oakland, CA. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Oakland, CA, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Oakland, CA is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Oakland, CA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
