I found Charity fairly late in my pregnancy for the hospital birth of my third child. I am in Burien, WA and Charity is in Lakewood,WA- I was concerned about the distance but was assured by Charity that it would be ok. I went into labor at 8pm 12/14/22 and let Charity know my contractions were 10 mins apart. At 10:40pm they were grouped to 6 mins for a while so I went to hospital at 11pm and was communicating back/forth with Charity via text. My daughter was born at 12:50am and Charity walked in after she was born and in my arms. I never was coached in the pushing positions (like I had requested from the start) that I needed to be in so my rectocele prolapse wasn’t aggravated- this never happened and now I’m left with a very serious prolapse that is negatively impacting my daily life. I felt cheated out of support, knowledge and financially ($850) at a most vulnerable time in my life.
From the start I didn’t feel like Charity was able to give me the time and attention I needed as a pregnant woman due to her busy life and schedule as a mom.I asked that Charity might donate her services to a low income mother in the future when she is able since she did not make it to my birth, and didn’t offer any partial refund after I requested one. She did not respond to that communication. I can’t recommend Charity as a doula as my previous experience with a doula was much better, my first doula was much more professional and made me feel like a priority and secure in my birth.

Wow! I honestly believe I would not have been able to have a Vbac without Amina! She EMPOWERED me. I took a birthing class with her, and then I requested her as a Doula! She did NOT disappoint. She was encouraging, calm, reliable, informative- and during my labor, she helped call me down and guide me the entire time. She was right by my side bringing me sips of water and snacks. My husband and I credit her completely. During my labor, my husband forgot everything we practiced, haha. But Amina saved the day. She’s one of my favorite people in the world. She’s wise, non judgmental, just absolutely wonderful. I am so grateful. She was reliable to show up and not wait till the last minute to come to me during my labor. I’m so grateful for her kindness and responsiveness. She offered sliding scale (because we literally could not have hired anyone without it). She was very very good to us. THANK YOU AMINA for making my VBAC possible! You are forever etched into my memories, and have changed the course of my birthing history forever. Thank you Doesn’t cover it. We LOVE Amina!

I help birthing people and their families prepare for postpartum, rest and heal at home after birth, and leave them feeling cared for, capable, and confident. Modeled loosely after the Dutch Kraamzorg, I offer personalized in-home postpartum support, care, and guidance to enable rest, healing, and transition. I also offer customized services based on your specific prenatal or postpartum needs from early pregnancy up to one year postpartum. I specialize in serving birthing people with planned or unplanned C-sections, VBACs, and childbirth injuries. I offer daytime postpartum support for up to one year postpartum and serve clients located in North King and South Snohomish counties.

Care philosophy

Kith and Kin provides postpartum planning and support to new families with a focus on c-sections, childbirth injuries, and VBACs. My care philosophy is inspired by the Dutch maternity care model. In the Netherlands, families are discharged quickly and greeted the next day by a kraamverzorgster, or home maternity nurse, to assist them in the early days of healing and adjusting to life at home.

After giving birth to my first child at home on Christmas morning of 2022, I became passionate about birth. I believe we lack the aspect of a “village” in todays society, and it is my mission to help woman feel more supporting before, during & after birth. I am passionate about helping woman prepare for their journey in birth, rather it be there first or their fifth. I believe in supporting woman in their most fragile stage, postpartum by helping with household tasks, warm cooked meals, offering advice & support with break feeding and helping you find any extra resources you may need. I believe we as woman are so strong & capable of any birth we may dream of, and it is my mission to help you in any way possible to achieve that.

Care philosophy

I believe having a birth team who supports your dream & needs in birth is vital to have the birth you want. I believe you, as the mother growing your child, knows what is best over all else. I believe in connecting with your intuition & reclaiming your power as a woman to bring your child Earthside. I believe in Physiological birth and doing whatever I can to support you on that journey.

As a trained birth doula, I offer a broad range of support and advocacy for pregnant people during the perinatal period. I aim to become a part of the village supporting the dyad/triad of baby and parent(s). I provide educational, physical, and emotional support that includes, but is not limited to comfort measures, labor progression, positioning, and affirming each client's wants/needs. Being that every birth is unique I do not have a specific set way of providing support, but rather meet every client where they are at to support them in a way that is best for them. My Birth Doula Package includes: *Initial consultation *1-2 Prenatal Visits *Continuous Labor and Delivery Support *2 Hours Immediate Postpartum Support *2-3 Postpartum Visits (if wanted) *Optional Photo documentation, delivered via private online album

Care philosophy

It is an honor to be hired as someone's doula and be allowed into the sacred space of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. It is my top priority to help protect that space for my clients in ways where they feel safe, comfortable, empowered, and confident in their decisions. I tailor the care I provide to the needs of the family or individual that I am supporting.

Jessica was our birth doula, and she also helped us with our newborn baby postpartum. We feel very lucky to have had her with us on this journey. From the first interviews and in person prenatal visits, to her supporting us in the hosipital as well as in our home, we have always felt we could trust her and lean on her experience. We had an induction on our due date and were planning to use epidural as pain management in late labor. It was a real scare when epidural wasn’t really working for me for at least a couple of hours (which in labor time felt like forever). Jessica’s presence really calmed us down, and with her help I was able to navigate the pain and panic until medication finally kicked in. Our birth experience was less stressful with her being there, and we also appreciated her staying a while after our baby was born to make sure we were comfortable and got everything we needed.

We also had Jessica as a postpartum doula for a few weeks, and she was so good with our baby girl and made it possible for me to go out and grab a coffee and have some selfcare time every now and then. Our daughter loves the reading, walks, and playtime they had together. AND, she gives great massages! We are so glad we found Jessica and we are thankful for all the help and support she gave us.

Holistic care that celebrates the transformative journey of matrescence. You can get support throughout birth, healing, and breastfeeding.

Care philosophy

I embrace matrescence, respect autonomy and innate maternal intuition, and support normal physiological birth at home. Lactation care involves listening to the mother, helping identify and meet feeding goals, give counseling and support, and work through various breastfeeding related issues that may afflict mother and baby. Brushing off a mothers concerns or inciting guilt are unacceptable.

I will also make sure all pump parts and bottles are washed and sanitized before I head out in the morning.

In the 12 years I have been a birth worker, my doula bag has become quite small. I have learned through experience, the families I have supported and the providers I have been a team player with, that there are only a few items really needed to support your birth preferences. Knowledge in the physiology of hormones, movement, space, emotions and breath. Experience in medical interventions and helping you to have productive conversations with your providers when they are needed, skill in comfort measures and massage (my hands are so strong:), and authentic words of encouragement, praise, and affirmation. I am best fit for a person who is wanting no or low interventions (in or out of the hospital): a VBAC or a free birth. My goal is to empower you and your labor partner so you can both be present in the event and have your best birth experience possible.

Care philosophy

Getting baby Earth side can be long, hard, powerful... and you can do it! I believe there is no right way to birth your baby. My philosophy is "Every pregnant person has the right to full informed consent, evidence based information, access to preferred model of care and support in decisions without cohesion or judgment."

From the moment we first spoke to Ryah we knew that she was the perfect fit as our Doula – she is incredibly warm, has such an extensive background, and food is one of her love languages! We had two prenatal appointments in which we discussed our birth preferences, learned stretches to do leading up to my due date, and practiced different techniques to try during early labor. She was also always available to reach via text or phone throughout my pregnancy.

Ryah was the most crucial person in helping my husband and I bring our baby earth side. She guided me through each contraction and continuously helped me stay centered and find my breath. She made suggestions of positions to try based on where the baby was to keep things progressing. She made sure my husband played an integral part in the experience and conveyed our birth preferences to the nursing staff. I ended up having an unmedicated birth, and I know this was only possible because she was there with me.

Once my baby was born, she helped him latch and stayed by my side to ensure that everything was okay. Since being home we’ve had a phone and in-person chat in which we processed my labor experience, and she made sure we were set up for the first few weeks postpartum. I am grateful that she is available throughout the 4th trimester! Aside from providing immeasurable support, she also took photos and video during labor which is the most special thing to look back on.

We are forever grateful to have found Ryah!

With the traumatic birth of my son, I became intimately familiar with how American healthcare fails people with the capacity for pregnancy. Having lacked support or education of any kind during the process, I now seek to guide clients through a far more positive experience, one that aligns with both the wants of the birthing-person as well as the health of parent and child. I am currently enrolled in Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Educator Training, as well as Childbirth Professionals International Doula Training. Having prior experience in doula work and successful births under my belt, I plan to continue my education to grow and better their understanding of the field.

Care philosophy

I believe birth is sacred, a gift given by our ancestors that deserves the utmost care and respect. My focus is to serve those that are the most vulnerable to the harm caused by our medical system, which includes people of the global majority, queer and trans parents, and disabled parents. I have a trans son, and another son born to a trans father. Families are diverse. Birth is no different.

Sage was my primary support while giving birth to my son. As a transman, the concept of giving birth in a traditional hospital setting was honestly kind of terrifying. Sage helped to keep me comfortable, keep labor going, and keep the staff from misgendering or dead naming me. I don’t plan to have any more kids, but if I do, I hope she’s there.

I am a married mother of three grown adults! My husband and I just relocated back to Kitsap Co. to be closer to our families and I am excited to work here to support birth and postpartum clients. I feel that it is important to be certified as a doula as well and strive for a high level of competence as your doula. My first birth, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, was less than ideal and sent me on the path to discover how to make my next birth better, more fulfilling and empowering and ultimately is the reason I became a Doula. I enjoy supporting Military and Law enforcement families and offer a 10% discount to them.

Care philosophy

As your Doula my job is to support you, your partner and your birth preferences without bias. I am experienced in supporting both medicated and unmedicated births as well as VBAC and Cesarean Birth. Because I am not a hospital or birth center employee I can support you fully as you navigate this sometimes overwhelming time. I gave birth to three babies and understand what you are going through!

I was a postpartum doula before I knew there was a name for it. As a teenager, when a neighbor or older sibling had a baby, my mother would send me over to help. I washed laundry and diapers, cooked meals, entertained the older siblings, did small household tasks and held/wore the newborn when needed. I also learned to prepare herbs to support the postpartum period. Being a middle child among 5 siblings, I had many opportunities to become skilled at supporting new families and babies. I was 2 years old when I witnessed my first birth. After the birth of my first child in 2001, I completed the birth doula training through DONA in San Antonio, Texas. I unexpectedly found myself expecting again and we moved our little family to Hawaii to be closer to my family and run a family business. I found a few opportunities to provide doula support at births in Hawaii as well. Once my youngest child entered school full-time, I took the postpartum doula training at The Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations in Kenmore, Washington. Thus began my career with a name. I am a postpartum doula. I grew up in many cities in the United States and some farms as well. I also lived in India and Canada as a child. At 18, I spent an extended amount of time traveling and revisiting places from my childhood as well as making new friends and connections around the world. After I completed my studies in International Relations at Mills College for Women in Oakland, CA, I spent some time as a music production manager in Los Angeles and then moved to Texas, where I began my small family. I moved to Seattle, about 20 years ago, from a remote area of the Big Island of Hawaii. Through my unique upbringing and curiosity and studies, I have acquired knowledge of different cultures and communities which helps me connect with the families I currently serve.

I am a Certified Lactation Counselor and Birth/Postpartum doula, in part because of my own experiences. I found myself unfulfilled in other fields of work because I was ignoring what I was called to do. I had a myriad of pregnancy issues, including loss, high risk medical complications, postpartum mood disorder, PTSD, and breastfeeding challenges. Like many families, we could not find the right resources, despite looking and asking for help. I don't want another person to fall through the cracks like I did. We all benefit from having compassionate, non-judgmental help in the process of starting or adding to our families, and it brings me immense satisfaction to be that person for others.

Care philosophy

I believe that every person has the right to a safe, respectful, and empowering experience when starting or adding to their family-whether through adoption, fertility treatments, or birth. This should be provided no matter their race, religion, beliefs, economic status, disability status, sexual or gender identity. I am committed to providing personalized care that is tailored to each individual.

Hello, I'm McKenna (she/they)! I have gravitated toward caregiving roles for as long as I can remember, starting out as a babysitter when I was just a kid myself. I was a nanny for over a decade before becoming a doula and truly enjoy getting to support parents and families.

Care philosophy

I’m a Full Spectrum Doula and a Newborn Care Specialist offering support to the whole family before, during, and after the addition of a new family member. McKenna was definitely God sent for us. During our first interview with her when we worried about the lack of support and receiving this from someone we do not know, McKenna was reassuring; her steady, thoughtful approach to how she can help us convinced us of her service.
Days leading up to my due date, she followed up everyday on any symptoms and discomfort I may have, often providing encouragement and home remedies.
After days of false labor, on the day I was actually in labor but yet doubtful, McKenna drove home immediately without a moments hesitation to help us fully aware this could turn to be another false labor day. From back rubs to ensuring I stay hydrated, to helping me through nausea and tracking contractions she was with us every step and brought in her understanding of what’s going on and coping mechanisms. Her knowledge and steady yet comforting support helped me through the birth of our darling baby boy. I’ll be ever grateful.

I am born and raised in Seattle. I am a wife and mother of two littles and one furry baby. I have been an educator for the last 10 years, 7 of those teaching special needs students. As a birth worker, I have an empathetic approach to this work that centers around support and safety because our communities deserve deep and restorative care. As well as physical support during labor, my role is also to act as a bridge of communication for the birthing person and their family. Every birthing person deserves to have someone there to guide and assist them in making educated choices about their pregnancy, and remind them that they can trust the strength of their bodies during this time. www.laboroflovedoulallc.com

Care philosophy

Community-based doula support is important because experiences differ between groups, and families deserve to have their support person be someone who can understand their experiences and empathize with their concerns and fears. I believe the most effective change occurs when communities are empowered and able to take care of their own. I’m here to provide unbiased information, emotional support.

Cynthia supported the birth of my 4th baby during the pandemic in 2020. At the time I was couch surfing with my 3 older kids and was planning to have a home birth. Things were scary and unknown but when Cynthia became my doula, I felt a safe. She did everything in her power to support me and my wishes. Cynthia provided appointments and information prior to birth. Showed up as a strong and steady force at my birth. Supported me postpartum with meals, encapsulating my placenta, making postpartum tinctures, meals. Etc. I recommend her services to everyone I know. She cares deeply about her clients and supporting women to achieve their dream birth.

A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Kent, WA offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Kent, WA can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Kent, WA. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Kent, WA, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Kent, WA is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Kent, WA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
