My doula journey began in 2008 after the birth of my own child. Although my experience was incredible, the sequence of events lead me to question how things could have been different. I then began researching and learning all that I could about the options birthing people and their partners had during birth. My goal then was to help support families anyway I could and ensure they never felt alone, pressured, or without choice; and 12 years later, it remains the same. My attitude toward birth is very modern and balanced. There is no one size fits all approach to people so there can’t be when welcoming a new human to the world. Regardless of your birth choices, I will support you and ensure you are respected no matter what. Hospital or home, in water or in a bed, midwife or doctor I will stand next to you and your partner with kind eyes and a calm touch. I am also currently adding a Hypnobabies certification to better serve my clients! Whether you have searched for a doula for your fertility, birth, or postpartum period (or all 3!) you may be overwhelmed with the list of questions you would like answered. This is completely normal and I’m happy to chat with you and answer any questions you may have.

Care philosophy

I am a modern doula who is experienced and prepared to support families of all shapes and sizes. I believe all birthing people have the right to be respected, heard, and supported.

She juggles lifes crazy all while homeschooling her children. You will often find her making home remedies, supporting the freebirth movement, empowering people, and drinking a large cup of herbal tea. Her demeanor is of a kindred soul lost in the wrong generation. All of her friends consider her a hippy, and she acknowledges the truth in that. As an Alternative Medicine student with Midwifery training, she is a formally trained birth and postpartum doula. Krystah currently holds certifications in Mamalates (which has a core focus in Diastasis Recti), Infant Massage Instruction, Acupressure for Birth, Herbalism, Prenatal Yoga Instruction, Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga Instruction, Buddha Baby Yoga Instruction, Belly Binding, Mother’s Healer (Closing of the Bones), Placenta Encapsulation and Adult & Pediatric First Aid/ CPR/AED.

I hired Krystah for post partum care in the hospital for two nights. Hiring her was absolutely the best decision I made. Krystah is very personable and professional. She took great care of me and my new born. I could get the much needed rest as Krystah cared for my baby through the night. She is very knowledgeable about alternative medicine and caring for new borns. She was very punctual and responsive. I higly recommend her to someone who is looking for quality care for the baby and mother likewise.

A Motherly Embrace Doula Services was established 8 years ago when I acted as a Doula for my sister as she birthed my first nephew. It was in those moments that I realized how important it was for mothers to receive unconditional support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I am currently a DONA trained Birth Doula serving women in the Houston and Surrounding areas.

Care philosophy

As a doula I provide emotional, physical, and educational support to help you make informed decisions before, during and after childbirth. I am here to assist the birthing mother and partner throughout this experience. I recognize that birth is an experience and one of the most memorable moments that moms will remember for a lifetime

Tania has been preparing birthing couples since 2013. Unhappy with the support she received during her first birth, her sister encouraged her to take an independent childbirth class. Her second birth was healing and her third birth was empowering. This started her passion for safe, natural when possible, and empowering birth. She has since become trained in Spinning Babies, Rebozo use during labor, and Neonatal Resuscitation. She has taught almost 200 couples and attended dozens of births, either as doula support or as a midwife birth assistant. Tania is married to her best friend of 10 years and they have 3 vivacious children together. When she is not reading articles about birth, she can be found chasing her kids around the park or folding laundry. It’s a toss up.

Care philosophy

My goal is to empower the birthing woman/person/couple with information. I inform you of all your options so you can make the best decisions for you and your family. I teach and listen, really listen, without judgement and imposing my views. This is your journey and I’m here to support you!

My passion for nurturing and honoring new parents began with the birth of my son March 2019. I spent months preparing extensively for pregnancy and the labor and delivery, but was completely overwhelmed and unprepared for recovery. I labored in a hospital for 21 hours in what my OB called at my 6 week check up, “text book labor”. Nothing about the labor or my recovery felt “text book” to me as I had envisioned something completely different. I ended up with a pelvic floor tear, urinary incontinence and a postpartum uterine infection contributing to my year long battle with postpartum anxiety and insomnia. I am grateful I knew to advocate for myself because of my therapy training and insist on pelvic floor physical therapy despite being encouraged to “just do kegels”. I felt depleted, anxious and alone those first few months while wondering if I’d ever sleep or feel whole again. Like many individuals, I had many nursing (body feeding / breastfeeding / chestfeeding) challenges including painful, poor latch, and oversupply. Desperate for answers and support, I researched night after night and created my modern day village to include a pelvic health physical therapist, a pediatric dentist to address my son’s oral restrictions, a lactation consultant, a psychologist for counseling and a chiropractor for my son’s bodywork and craniosacral therapy. Knowing what I know now, I wish my village would have included a postpartum doula. My challenging and overwhelming postpartum experience has ignited my passion to help families during this sacred transition with education, resources and non-biased support to allow for the most gentle and joyful transition possible. Postpartum Preparation + Recovery: • Developing a support team and plan for self-care • Physical therapy for pain relief, diastasis healing and pelvic floor recovery • Birth processing and emotional support • Therapeutic massage • Healing food delivery, preparation and education • Light housework while you rest • Sitz bath preparation Baby Care: • Breastfeeding (chestfeeding / bodyfeeding) support • Tummy time and baby wearing education • Education on normal developmental milestones • Bathing and swaddling education • Sleep education • Older sibling care • Resources for referrals, if needed Step 1: Book a complementary 15- minute strategy call with me. Tell me your story so I can customize a plan that best meets your needs. Step 2: Schedule your initial PT assessment or initial doula visit (can be scheduled prior to baby’s arrival or after you return home with baby).

Care philosophy

I provide compassionate, non-biased support for families as they transition into early parenthood. My practice is inclusive and LGBTQ+ affirming.

I sought to become a doula when I was pregnant with my youngest - I feel in love with birth itself and read everything I could to prepare my mind and body the best I could. After walking through intense trauma from his birth (situational, not medical), it only solidified my resolve to become a doula to come alongside other young moms or single moms or women in abusive situations, to support them in this precious time, when no one else will be their voice. I live and support others in Bay Area Houston, mostly through hosting virtual birth and postpartum courses. Find out more about me at www.simplenaturalmama.com

Care philosophy

As a certified birth and postpartum doula, childbirth and breastfeeding educator, and placenta specialist, I am here to meet your need of informational, emotional, physical support, while encouraging you to advocate for your needs/desires, and reinforcing your own familial support during this life-changing experience of labor and postpartum!

Those who know me say that my strong desire to provide families with the necessary education, support, and evidence-based knowledge when they desire it most is quickly noticed and my warm-approach in doing so is always appreciated. I like to think that my life work encompasses the best of several worlds; When I’m not serving clients as a Postpartum and Infant Care Doula, you can find me either educating families within my Certified Family Life Educator role or positively impacting lives within my profession as a Social Worker at a local foster care/adoption agency. I enjoy working with parents of all ages, both first-time and seasoned parents, families of different racial/ethnic backgrounds, of varying cultural beliefs, and diverse family structures. And though I have worked with children of all ages, the newborn and infancy period remain my specialty. Get to know me and you will find that I have an extensive history of experience and training specifically relating to the 4th trimester (the first three months of baby and mommy’s postpartum life).

Care philosophy

I like to think my role as a Postpartum Doula is a luxury support service, assisting families through the first few days, weeks, or months of life after baby. This looks very different for every family that I work with but always includes, emotional, physical, and evidence-based informational support while paying special attention to the mother and providing exceptional care for baby.

We recommend reaching out to and interviewing at least three postpartum doulas before hiring a postpartum doula near you. While the cost of a postpartum doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a postpartum doula in Houston, TX is $33 per hour, but typically ranges from $27 to $38 per hour. These costs are based on a representative group of 75 postpartum doulas surveyed by Meela in the Houston area. When hiring a postpartum doula in Houston, TX, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your postpartum doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

A postpartum doula in Houston, TX is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Houston, TX offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Houston, TX can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Houston, TX. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Houston, TX, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Houston, TX is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Houston, TX: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
