My journey began as a nanny in 2017. My first time providing newborn care was 2020 and I knew it’s what I wanted to do. I’ve completed trainings including foundational newborn care and full spectrum doula training. I’ve worked with families of many sizes and backgrounds. I take great pride in my work and love supporting families and making sure bringing home their new addition(s) is an enjoyable time. I am also a professional photographer who focuses more on a natural and candid style of photography.

Care philosophy

I am here to support you. Whatever choices and decisions you make for your little one(s), I aim to encourage you and make you feel supported. I am an experienced birth worker, having worked as a newborn care specialist, a full spectrum doula and a nanny. Whatever your family may need, I’m excited to work with you!

I massage all of the 9 months of pregnancy and I love helping you rehabilitate with postnatal massage. I attend births as a support to the whole family with massage relief, breathing and other techniques.

Care philosophy

I became a licensed massage therapist and labor doula because I was inspired by the doula I had the fortune of having attend my 3rd labor, I am a mother of 4 young aspiring adults. In 2002 I went to massage school and later became a labor doula in 2014. I assist families with massage care and labor support, including education and infant massage.

Blessings Beautiful Birthing Sovereigns, My name is Cherish Peacewalker and I have been assisting families and single birthers for over 15 years now. I started off as a Licensed Massage Therapist in Houston, Tx and shortly after became a Certified Doula through Memorial Hermann Hospital. After my sister asked me to massage her during her labor process, I knew this was what I was meant to do. The miracle that I saw that day changed my life forever. About 5 years later I moved to the Bay Area, California where I got Certified again in Massage as well as becoming a Birth and Postpartum Doula at Cornerstone Doula Trainings in San Francisco. They specialize in working with the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities and this was something that was also very important to me. Since then I have studied and worked with indigenous elders from many different backgrounds including India, Native American Elders, Mexico, Asia and more. It is important to me to meet people where they are and respect all walks of life because no two people are made the same, just like each of these beautiful babies. I offer Full Spectrum Doula care from start to finish with packages that include but are not limited to; Massage, Birth & Postpartum Doula, In Home Support, Belly & Bone Binding, Yoni Steaming, Holistic Pelvic Care, Birth Prep Coaching and Classes. I would be happy to set up a FREE consultation and send you a FREE e-book to help you get on your way and make the best decision for one of the most important times in your life. You deserve to be seen, heard and experienced with compassion and care.

Care philosophy

I believe a peaceful and powerful birth is possible for every birthing person and it starts on the inside, literally and figuratively. As a Somatic Birth Worker and Touch Therapist I've learned that birthing does start from within and it's all about unwinding the trauma that's been repressed BEFORE we give birth. When we feel supported, held and heard we have the power & potential to do anything!

My birthing experience would never have been the same without Cherish. Cherish coached me throughout pregnancy and Even prepared healthy recipes that prepared me for labor. My delivery was scheduled during the height of the pandemic and Thanks to her doula license, she was able to bring her support into the delivery room at a time when only 2 family members were allowed. Because of suspected complications, we decided to birth in the hospital. She created the mood in the room with plants and calming music that made me feel like I was out in nature. Her post partum support was more vital than I could have imagined. At the time she offered belly binding and postpartum meals. My beautiful son deserved nothing less. I am forever grateful for Cherish being my doula.

Taylor Jefferson

23 reviews • 18 families supported • 3 years experience

As I sat down to think about what birth truly meant to me, my mind went directly to how pure and innocent children are. How vulnerable birthing persons are when they are carrying a child and the months immediately after delivery are topics often overlooked. I chose to name my doula services after what a Lily flower represents and what I believe parents should give themselves more of each and every day leading up to and after delivery. Lilies represent purity, fertility, innocence, and rebirth/new life. These all pertain to the beautiful journey of pregnancy and childbirth. Grace is defined as the disposition to an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency. How many times have you heard someone say “Give yourself, some grace? You are human!”. New mothers and fathers are often their own harshest critics. Children do not come with a manual! Trust me I learned the hard away! They are a gift and divinely assigned to their parents. You learn as you go about your parenting experience and with the help of a doula, you can avoid some bumps along the way!

Care philosophy

The extensive training I have as a doula allows me to be a sweet asset to your birth and postpartum team! My approach is that of collaborative care with as much education prior to delivery as possible so clients can make informed decisions about their childbirth journey. No two journeys are ever the same! Let’s work together to create a space that empowers you to birth the way your body wants to!

I'm Mitsuzi, a former labor and delivery nurse now transitioning into a full-time doula. My name is Jaci (pronounced Jackie), and I started my doula journey back in 2020. Birth has always fascinated me, so when I jumped in head first it felt like a whole new world of knowledge opened up! I learned so much about the body and how it responds during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. The different stages babies go through in their development and how to help families feel confident in their day to day lives! What started out as a fascination quickly became a career I love and a passion I get to pursue on a daily basis.

Care philosophy

I believe that everyone should have the birth they desire, whatever that might look like. I come alongside of families and help answer any questions they might have, but ultimately give them non-judgmental support. Too many providers forget that this is your baby, and we are here to support your decisions. Selah is Hebrew for a musical pause, rest, or breath. How can I help you breathe?

Bringing a new life into this world is different for each family I care for, so personalization is something that is very important! I focus on what each client needs education-wise, emotionally, physically, and beyond; in order to build out the best care plan to achieve a truly enchanting birth experience. I’m what’s considered a full spectrum doula, meaning I offer support, education, and care from pregnancy through postpartum. I focus on evidence based, personalized, inclusive, and diverse models of care and resources. I am a DONA doula, trained by a veteran in the industry (who was trained by Penny Simkin herself!) and I also have trained with Birthing Little Humans, Bebo & Mia, and a few others to round out my education. I’ve supported a wide variety of clients, cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life! A huge focus for me when I began this journey was making each experience as individualized and special as possible. Taking great care to learn what each family needs, wants, and what would empower them the most. I adore what I do and would love the opportunity to speak with you further!

Alyssa exceeded our expectations! She understood our birth plan and eased our concerns and worries we had about giving birth as well! Even though everything was pretty much virtual when it came time to give birth it was like she was in the room with us! I loved how she made sure to include my husband and when we found out due to COVID that she couldn’t be in the room she trained my husband very well on what to do during labor. She is very knowledgeable on all aspects of pregnancy and birth. What really impressed us is that she understood and acknowledged the disparities that existed with me being an African American woman and even gave me tips on how to stand up for myself while in the hospital to be sure that I receive the greatest care available! She is definitely an expert and we love her! She’s like family! We would definitely recommend her to anyone who’s looking for a doula! We will definitely use her again for our future third ?

Birth is not only the birth of a child, but also, the birth of a parent. I believe in the power of birthing people. I believe that all births are valid, unique and no matter the type of birth you are seeking, you should feel informed, supported, and confident in your choices. I have always loved pregnant women and babies for as long as I can remember. As a child, I always wanted to hold everybody’s baby. As an adult, I love to hold the woman that carried the baby. I am pretty sure this was one of the reasons I became a surrogate mom, twice to be exact. It was truly an honor to be instrumental in assisting two families with bringing their beautiful babies into the world. Throughout my surrogate journeys I learned the power of time, as well as how to create a space which allowed me to be present in the moment, allow my feelings to flow, to not be ashamed of vulnerability, and to allow others to assist me when I needed it most. As a result of this, I have learned with my own birth clients to create space to allow mom time, time to labor as she chooses to, move in a way that she deems most comfortable, and birth how she needs too. I am passionate about supporting women in entrusting their bodies, centering their healing, prioritizing their mental health and welcoming the new version of themselves. Another thing I have become very passionate about is Dads. I like to help dads recognize their power and presence throughout the pregnancy and birth experience. When I am not doing birth work I am pretty low key, I like spending time with family, being silly with my kids, working out, doing yoga, going for walks in nature, reading books, long baths and being a new plant mom.

Care philosophy

Your birth is just as unique as you are. I am here to encourage and empower you to connect with your body and baby, one birth at a time!

This is my own description of what I think doulas should do, not every doula shares this philosophy, so ask lots of questions during your interview! -- Doulas provide emotional and physical support during labor and delivery. But there's so much more to it than that. A doula is who you call at midnight because you just had this "weird thing" and you don't want to call the nurse line/midwife or go to the ER but you just can't sleep! Doula's serve as helpers to everyone in the family. If you already have a support person, but they feel unprepared for birth, we can help guide them in the ways that are most helpful to the laboring person. Doulas are often the connection between an isolated pregnant person and a community around them that they've yet to discover. We talk about trauma and all the heavy things that can impact your labor- and how we can work to reduce those impacts. Sometimes birth is traumatic, and we (as a society) need to work through that trauma to heal from it. Doulas are patient advocates in the hospital, to help insure you're fully informed and YOU are making the medical decisions surrounding your care. Doulas also serve in out of hospital births so midwives are focused on your medical care, and we're focused on you. (Some doulas will assist you in "free birth," however that's generally not my jam.) My mentor refers to her position with pregnant/laboring/delivering people as a coordinator, akin to a wedding planner. Doulas should be prepared to help you navigate and negotiate with your medical care team. We help write and advocate for birth plans. My goal is to fill the gaps so that your birth experience is the best outcome for your individual situation.

Care philosophy

My goal is to fill the gaps so that your birth experience is the best outcome for your individual situation. I am a 2SLGBTQIA+ / LGBT/ Queer affirming birth doula who brings a unique perspective to the pregnancy and laboring experience. My background in body work and physical therapy gives me a distinctive understanding of how to apply my skills as a doula to physiological birth.

I have two children, and I had two very different journeys to becoming their mother. I know firsthand that no pregnancy, birth or postpartum experience is the same as another, but I believe everyone deserves to have a beautiful journey regardless. Every birth giver deserves to have the knowledge to make the correct decisions for themselves, and the respect to get what they want. I struggled with Unexplained Secondary Infertility when trying to conceive my second child. During the fertility testing, medication, shots, and eventually pregnancy, I read and read and read so many books on fertility, pregnancy, conception and birth. I became fascinated with the process; that infatuation is what led to my desire to become a doula. I want to turn everything I've read, and everything I've learned during my doula training into helping provide a safe space for birth givers to dream of what they want, and to help them become empowered to advocate for their desires. I'm there with the guidebook, but it's your job to implement the steps. I am a full-spectrum doula. I provide guidance and support in all aspects of the birthing process. I have a heart to help you during your journey in whatever form you want, whatever steps you take.

Care philosophy

I believe all births are beautiful, and all birthing people deserve to have the pregnancy, birthing and postpartum experiences they want. I believe no matter the journey you choose, you deserve to be fully informed in your decisions so that you can be fully confident in your choices. I will create a safe space and help you advocate for those choices so that you can feel empowered as a birth giver

Hi there. I am deeply committed to empowering you in your pregnancy and birth. I am looking to working with people who are open to growing themselves, and who want to provide the most empowering birth experience to themselves, their baby, and family. Personally, I am a mom to an incredible 1-year-old girl. Within the first week of becoming pregnant, I told my husband, “I want to become a doula!” The pregnancy and birth journey had me awaken to my personal power, and the power that each one of us naturally has. I would be honored to be your doula through your journey during one of the most important time periods of your life. A little bit more about me: I am originally from New Jersey. I have lived in Houston for five years, and I absolutely love Houston. Other things I love include: great conversations, connecting with people, being outside, great food and restaurants, traveling, running.

Care philosophy

My goal is that you have the resources available to you to make the most informed and empowered choices for yourself and your baby during your pregnancy and birth. I am committed to providing a safe space of presence and love.

Having Maddie as a coach has been one of the best experiences of my life and I am forever grateful for what she did for me and the impact she had on my life.

The best thing about Maddie is that she is authentically interested in your life and your goals. Maddie makes the coaching process fun and light, and at the same time, she brings the rigor necessary for you to succeed. During my coaching process with Maddie, she ALWAYS believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself, and she always made me feel that I was capable of reaching my goals. She gave me the confidence that I needed to achieve my goals.

Another great thing about Maddie is that I could always count on her and she would always show up when I needed her the most. She honors her word. She is very practical and focuses on producing breakthrough results.

But most importantly, Maddie is a GREAT human being. Everything she does comes from pure love and contribution. And Maddie has the best energy! You will see her smiling 99% of the time and your energy will immediately shift to a positive state.

Hello everyone, my name is Raven Brown; I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where I've experienced first hand how love and support can make a huge difference in a expected overwhelming situation. I have always wanted to make an impact in my community by empowering others to be able to have and use their voice. I am currently pursuing my nursing degree here in Houston as well. My love for becoming a doula started when I stumbled upon a woman handing out her business cards in front of a Hyde Park record store. After gaining more information, I knew this was a sign and my future calling. I plan on bringing various education tools, one on one support, and endless dedication to my future clients. I will do my part in helping bring your birth vision to fruition. I will work by your side as you prepare to bring forth a new life and be present with a little of that Chicago community love and compassion right here in the Houston, Texas area.

Care philosophy

Each birth is a scared moment for all families. It allows you to dive into your inner knowing. By providing each person with the resources and information they need to make the knowledgeable decisions about the most significant event of their lives, I can care by assisting you in your families journey into parenthood.

I’ve been in the Birth field for over 20 years, I got started as a volunteer attending births, then stayed on to learn the Doula/ Midwives Assistant role and attain my certification through ACHI, The Assoc for Childbirth at Home, Int., and began preparations, study and practice towards my license as a midwife. After so many wonderful experiences and over 2500 births I am now ready to provide the birthing parents with additional tools, knowledge and education. I provide parents with support throughout labor, as well as pregnancy and postpartum. I also provide childbirth education for parents who desire it. Postpartum overnight care. Breastfeeding support. Placenta encapsulation.

Care philosophy

Evidence Based, Gentle Educated Approach to pregnancy, labor and delivery, based on parents needs, Bradley Method, Le Boyer Method. Freedom of choice and emphasizing Patient Rights. A combination of practiced and learned techniques pain relief and troubleshooting things as they come up. Emphasis on informed consent during the labor period. Bee or BriAnna or Bri, the Doula, has been a postpartum, labor & delivery and newborn nursery registered nurse since August 2018. In February 2020, she received her birth doula training through the National Black Doula Association. She also enjoys capturing moments in time with birth, newborn and maternity photography, a hobby she has been skilled in since 2015 (BeeThePhotographer.com). Nature, herbs and the powerful healing energy of plant medicine have fascinated Bee since she discovered how to make mud pies and plant food for her dolls as a little girl. Through learning about pharmacology and western prescription medications, she discovered that Mother Nature, even at its smallest compounds, has provided humans with everything we need to survive. Her passion for childbirth goes back to her early childhood years after seeing her sister carry her nephew to term and becoming addicted to watching “A Birth Story” on TLC every morning. It all came full circle once she began working as a women’s health nurse right after nursing school and also during her journey of self healing, self discovery and spirituality. These experiences have allowed her to provide holistic/individualized support and care to clients using herbs, natural birthing practices and nutritional education.

“BriAnna is an excellent doula. My entire experience with her was wonderful from beginning to end. I decided to look for a doula because I started to feel anxious about giving birth in my second trimester. I wanted someone that could guide and educate me during my pregnancy and support me during delivery. Her initial consultation immediately put my husband and I at ease. She is very personable, knowledgeable and professional. It’s a major plus that she is a labor and delivery RN. She knows so much regarding childbirth and has so much insight on various birth scenarios. She also has so many tips and remedies to deal with the discomforts of pregnancy.

BriAnna is a pro in the labor room offering constant support physically, emotionally and mentally. She helped cater to my every need to help make me as comfortable as possible. She provided counter pressure on my back as I labored, fed me ice chips, fanned me, helped me change birthing positions, and consistently gave me words of encouragement. Without BriAnna by my side, I don’t think I would have been able to stick with my unmedicated birth plan.

Now let’s talk photography. The doula package I got included maternity, birth and newborn photography. BriAnna did an absolutely amazing job. She is so easy to work with and the pictures came out great. It was so convenient not having to shop around for a photographer to capture these precious moments. The newborn photos are my favorite.”

I am a mom of 2 boys and have 4 years experience with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I want to help women have the best birth experience they can and be able to express their needs and desires for their birth plan or how they want to labor. I became a doula in 2013 when I realized it was the only job I'd ever wanted. I took my first training with CAPPA, and have since trained with multiple doula organizations and highly-skilled doulas. I continue to train and build my skills every year. I love working with families who break the mold--who build their family on their own terms with love and courage. Birth doula support with me looks like this:
Minimum of 3 in-person or virtual meetings, plus monthly check-ins Education - explanations of terminology and procedures as they come up in care provider appointments Planning - budgeting for care, writing a birth plan, and planning for postpartum Guidance - prioritizing your goals with actionable steps Research - help finding the best available evidence-based information for your unique pregnancy Resources - tools to help you plan and learn Referrals - introduce you to chiropractors, lactation consultants, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and other care providers whose specialties support your goals Physical and emotional support during birth process Suggestions for position changes and movement Support partner(s) in their role Guidance adhering to birth plan or making changes as necessary Pre-op and post-op support for Cesarean birth Immediate postpartum care Newborn feeding help In-home follow-up visit

Care philosophy

All birthing people deserve care that is informed, evidenced-based, and centered on their needs as individuals. I'm only invested in you having access to everything you need as you make decisions about your body, your baby, and your birth. Birth is unpredictable, but doula support is constant. I respect your agency, advocate for your autonomy, and help you find all the options. Zero judgment.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Houston, TX.

You can browse through the available doulas in Houston, TX and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Houston, TX in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Houston, TX. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Houston, TX doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a doula in Houston, TX is $964, but can typically range from $802 to $1,125. These costs are based on a representative group of 75 doulas surveyed by Meela in the Houston area. The average cost of a doula in Houston, TX is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of Texas, which is $914.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Houston, TX is about the same as the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Houston, TX, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Houston, TX: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Houston, TX, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Houston, TX can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Houston, TX does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Houston, TX will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Houston, TX can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Houston, TX; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
