As I sat down to think about what birth truly meant to me, my mind went directly to how pure and innocent children are. How vulnerable birthing persons are when they are carrying a child and the months immediately after delivery are topics often overlooked. I chose to name my doula services after what a Lily flower represents and what I believe parents should give themselves more of each and every day leading up to and after delivery. Lilies represent purity, fertility, innocence, and rebirth/new life. These all pertain to the beautiful journey of pregnancy and childbirth. Grace is defined as the disposition to an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency. How many times have you heard someone say “Give yourself, some grace? You are human!”. New mothers and fathers are often their own harshest critics. Children do not come with a manual! Trust me I learned the hard away! They are a gift and divinely assigned to their parents. You learn as you go about your parenting experience and with the help of a doula, you can avoid some bumps along the way!

Care philosophy

The extensive training I have as a doula allows me to be a sweet asset to your birth and postpartum team! My approach is that of collaborative care with as much education prior to delivery as possible so clients can make informed decisions about their childbirth journey. No two journeys are ever the same! Let’s work together to create a space that empowers you to birth the way your body wants to!

We had the pleasure of having Taylor at both of our home births, one which was kind of by accident, and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. She’s a joy to be around and has a calming, gentle demeanor that makes the surges more manageable during labor. You know she is there, but she doesn’t impose herself into your space. Taylor knows when to step in and when to let you do your thing, which is such a huge skill as a doula. We love her and hope to share another birth with her in the future!

I am a holistic Postpartum Doula and Certified Lactation Counselor serving Houston, TX and surrounding areas. My passion for birth work grew tenfold after my own at home birthing experience with an amazing doula and midwife at my side. I was truly grateful for their guidance and the love they showed me as I brought my baby boy into the world. I love supporting the mother (and family) through the momentous transition that a birth and newborn brings. I provide postpartum doula support at an hourly rate. I offer lactation support, overnight care, meals, belly bonding, yoni steams and complete household errands. Each mother is different so every postpartum shift looks different for my clients. I also provide in home and virtual lactation support at an hourly rate. These are one on one sessions where we can learn and trouble shoot your breastfeeding issues together!

Care philosophy

I believe all birthing people deserve quality care and a helpful village that cares for them so they can care for baby. As your doula my goal is to provide holistic, individualized and evidence-based support during your postpartum and breastfeeding journey.

I have been supporting families as a birth and postpartum doula since 2008. While I have transitioned birth work from doula support to home birth midwifery care, I still value and appreciate the need for postpartum support of new moms, and look forward to opportunities to help new moms settle into life with a new baby.

Care philosophy

As a postpartum doula my role is to support new families with adjusting to life with a new baby. I provide breastfeeding support and education, and offer evidence based suggestions for caring for newborns. As a midwife I provide the same schedule of care that an OB would provide, but with a different model and approach, with the goal being a satisfying home birth experience.

I am a mom of three and my first pregnancy and postpartum experience was traumatic but the second two were not. She taught me the basics of breastfeeding, eating healthy and self-care. She gave me and my babies a love and bond we’ll forever share.

Hi, I'm Cynthia and a Certified Holistic Doula providing support during Moms postpartum period. I believe it's during this time where mom's biggest shifts are and through my training and experience, I understand the changes in her body, and believe by meeting mom's nutritional needs are what best to help with postpartum recovery and future wellness. Currently, I'm enrolled in a Postpartum Nutrition certification to best support this as an option. I'm also available to help do the things she may not have time or energy for, like light housekeeping and organizing. Breastfeeding support is available if you choose it as an option. I provide Night Nanny services so parents can get the sleep they need to function properly through the day. In this, I've certified as Newborn Care Specialist. During the quarantine, I provided support virtually and decided to keep this option if you choose. In general, after our initial meeting, questions/communication can be made through text and cell. Cynthia was an incredible assest to my daughter and I from day one of her pregnancy! The information she provided throughout was invaluable. Although I had experienced a high risk pregnancy 28 years earlier, I was at a loss when my daughter started experiencing symptoms of what was later diagnosed as cholestasis. The calm and comfort she provided helped both of us stay focused. After my grandson was born, she helped us recognize postpartum symptoms which allowed my daughter the ability to heal in a supportive environment! I don’t know what we would have done without her and I will forever be grateful!

Birth is not only the birth of a child, but also, the birth of a parent. I believe in the power of birthing people. I believe that all births are valid, unique and no matter the type of birth you are seeking, you should feel informed, supported, and confident in your choices. I have always loved pregnant women and babies for as long as I can remember. As a child, I always wanted to hold everybody’s baby. As an adult, I love to hold the woman that carried the baby. I am pretty sure this was one of the reasons I became a surrogate mom, twice to be exact. It was truly an honor to be instrumental in assisting two families with bringing their beautiful babies into the world. Throughout my surrogate journeys I learned the power of time, as well as how to create a space which allowed me to be present in the moment, allow my feelings to flow, to not be ashamed of vulnerability, and to allow others to assist me when I needed it most. As a result of this, I have learned with my own birth clients to create space to allow mom time, time to labor as she chooses to, move in a way that she deems most comfortable, and birth how she needs too. I am passionate about supporting women in entrusting their bodies, centering their healing, prioritizing their mental health and welcoming the new version of themselves. Another thing I have become very passionate about is Dads. I like to help dads recognize their power and presence throughout the pregnancy and birth experience. When I am not doing birth work I am pretty low key, I like spending time with family, being silly with my kids, working out, doing yoga, going for walks in nature, reading books, long baths and being a new plant mom.

Your birth is just as unique as you are. I am here to encourage and empower you to connect with your body and baby, one birth at a time!

My name is Julie. I am a mom to a beautiful 13 yr. old girl and a 18 mo. old black lab. I am also a Newborn Care Specialist, Lactation Educator, and an aspiring Postpartum Doula. My hobbies are spending time with my family and friends, along with reading and walking our pup. I have just began to pursue my love for photography, and would love the chance to take more pictures for the families I serve. My interest in babies really began when I was a preteen. My mom was a teacher and I began babysitting for her co-workers. This steam-rolled into referrals and more and more experience. I began working at a local daycare in the infant room and then pursued one on one care as a nanny to 18mos old twins. The next several years led to even more newborn nanny families and this opened up doors to specialized trainings. I've trained in sleep conditioning, newborn care, twins and multiple care, and even lactation education. I love learning, and I hope to have even more trainings and certifications under my belt in the near future. The families I have served throughout the years have given me the chance to gain the experiences I desire to take on even more challenges, and I know will be a great asset in the all my future families.

Care philosophy

My philosophy is care. I absolutely love what I do for the families I serve, and I believe empathy, compassion and most of all education are what families need most. A new baby brings joy and excitement, but also worry and self-doubt. Whether families are newbies or seasoned I am a form of constant support bringing with me care and compassion during this new life transition.

I provide parents with support throughout labor, as well as pregnancy and postpartum. I also provide childbirth education for parents who desire it. Postpartum overnight care. Breastfeeding support. Bee or BriAnna or Bri, the Doula, has been a postpartum, labor & delivery and newborn nursery registered nurse since August 2018. In February 2020, she received her birth doula training through the National Black Doula Association. She also enjoys capturing moments in time with birth, newborn and maternity photography, a hobby she has been skilled in since 2015 (BeeThePhotographer.com). Nature, herbs and the powerful healing energy of plant medicine have fascinated Bee since she discovered how to make mud pies and plant food for her dolls as a little girl. Through learning about pharmacology and western prescription medications, she discovered that Mother Nature, even at its smallest compounds, has provided humans with everything we need to survive. Her passion for childbirth goes back to her early childhood years after seeing her sister carry her nephew to term and becoming addicted to watching “A Birth Story” on TLC every morning. It all came full circle once she began working as a women’s health nurse right after nursing school and also during her journey of self healing, self discovery and spirituality. These experiences have allowed her to provide holistic/individualized support and care to clients using herbs, natural birthing practices and nutritional education.

“BriAnna is an excellent doula. My entire experience with her was wonderful from beginning to end. I decided to look for a doula because I started to feel anxious about giving birth in my second trimester. I wanted someone that could guide and educate me during my pregnancy and support me during delivery. Her initial consultation immediately put my husband and I at ease. She is very personable, knowledgeable and professional. It’s a major plus that she is a labor and delivery RN. She knows so much regarding childbirth and has so much insight on various birth scenarios. She also has so many tips and remedies to deal with the discomforts of pregnancy.

BriAnna is a pro in the labor room offering constant support physically, emotionally and mentally. She helped cater to my every need to help make me as comfortable as possible. She provided counter pressure on my back as I labored, fed me ice chips, fanned me, helped me change birthing positions, and consistently gave me words of encouragement. Without BriAnna by my side, I don’t think I would have been able to stick with my unmedicated birth plan.

Now let’s talk photography. The doula package I got included maternity, birth and newborn photography. BriAnna did an absolutely amazing job. She is so easy to work with and the pictures came out great. It was so convenient not having to shop around for a photographer to capture these precious moments. The newborn photos are my favorite.”

“Before meeting Chelsey, my idea of a quintessential doula was a crunchy hippie who smelled like essential oils and shrieked when you said the word epidural like you mentioned Voldemort. I wanted a medicated birth, and because of that alone, I never thought I’d have a doula. Little did I know, a doula that is truly doing her job is supportive of whatever birth plan the mother wants. It is primarily her (or his) job to support the mother, including if she wants medication.

Chelsey provided me with valuable information to support my entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. She helped me with my diet, my baby registry, my mental health, and frequently checked in after my doctor’s appointments. She educated me on what to expect during the birth so that I had less anxiety surrounding what I knew nothing about at the time. She also met with my husband and I on how he could help me through contractions at home before I went to the hospital.

While my husband would have loved to play the traditional role of my birth coach, he was extremely grateful that Chelsey filled that responsibility and took the pressure off of him. She was supportive of my birth plan and I’d hire her again in a heartbeat as a critical member of my birth team should the need arise again.”

I work to create a calm, nonjudgmental environment where you feel cared for, so that even if things don’t go as planned, you will know all your options and feel supported at all times. My hope, as your birth doula, is to be a source of support that empowers you to be brave and at peace during childbirth. My journey to become a doula began ten years ago with my third pregnancy and the successful home birth of my daughter. For the first time, I had an experienced doula by my side (during a 19-hour labor!), and the emotional and physical support made a huge impact on me. Transformed by this experience, I decided to become a doula full-time after many years of teaching in higher education, where I earned a M.A. in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies from The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!). Since then, I continue to create and facilitate workshops, trainings and private classes on childbirth education, newborn care, fertility, gender, reproductive justice, women & leadership and sexual wellness to diverse groups in the Houston community.

Care philosophy

Whether in a hospital, at a birth center or at home, birth is a profoundly personal experience. I provide evidence-based care, hands-on support, listening with an open heart, and treating families with dignity and love. From pregnancy to parenthood and beyond, you can expect nonjudgemental support and compassionate doula care for all families.

My passion for nurturing and honoring new parents began with the birth of my son March 2019. I spent months preparing extensively for pregnancy and the labor and delivery, but was completely overwhelmed and unprepared for recovery. I labored in a hospital for 21 hours in what my OB called at my 6 week check up, “text book labor”. Nothing about the labor or my recovery felt “text book” to me as I had envisioned something completely different. I ended up with a pelvic floor tear, urinary incontinence and a postpartum uterine infection contributing to my year long battle with postpartum anxiety and insomnia. I am grateful I knew to advocate for myself because of my therapy training and insist on pelvic floor physical therapy despite being encouraged to “just do kegels”. I felt depleted, anxious and alone those first few months while wondering if I’d ever sleep or feel whole again. Like many individuals, I had many nursing (body feeding / breastfeeding / chestfeeding) challenges including painful, poor latch, and oversupply. Desperate for answers and support, I researched night after night and created my modern day village to include a pelvic health physical therapist, a pediatric dentist to address my son’s oral restrictions, a lactation consultant, a psychologist for counseling and a chiropractor for my son’s bodywork and craniosacral therapy. Knowing what I know now, I wish my village would have included a postpartum doula. My challenging and overwhelming postpartum experience has ignited my passion to help families during this sacred transition with education, resources and non-biased support to allow for the most gentle and joyful transition possible. Postpartum Preparation + Recovery: • Developing a support team and plan for self-care • Physical therapy for pain relief, diastasis healing and pelvic floor recovery • Birth processing and emotional support • Therapeutic massage • Healing food delivery, preparation and education • Light housework while you rest • Sitz bath preparation Baby Care: • Breastfeeding (chestfeeding / bodyfeeding) support • Tummy time and baby wearing education • Education on normal developmental milestones • Bathing and swaddling education • Sleep education • Older sibling care • Resources for referrals, if needed Step 1: Book a complementary 15- minute strategy call with me. Tell me your story so I can customize a plan that best meets your needs. Step 2: Schedule your initial PT assessment or initial doula visit (can be scheduled prior to baby’s arrival or after you return home with baby).

Care philosophy

I provide compassionate, non-biased support for families as they transition into early parenthood. My practice is inclusive and LGBTQ+ affirming.

I meet with clients regularly, throughout their pregnancy and check in on my clients, on average, once per week. I believe the key to a great birth experience is in preparation, so we do a lot of work before Labor Day. Labor is a vulnerable time for both the birthing person and their intimate support team, honoring that through relationship building is my primary goal. I work closely with your medical team to ensure you are informed and consented about all procedures. My goal is for each family to love the day their baby was born and remember it joyously. I grew up in and around Houston for the most part. I met my husband when I was 21 and married him when I was 25. We have birthed four children together and have three surviving children living at home with us now. My first daughter was born in 2001 during tropical storm Allison in the medical center and was with us for twelve short weeks. We loved her as hard as we could while she was here and she has forever changed the landscape of our lives. We are grateful for every moment we had and she taught us to love deeply and with abandon. We were lucky enough to welcome our second child in 2003 at the same hospital. With this birth I was able to focus and really work toward achieving the birth experience I knew I wanted. Our third child was born five years later at a freestanding birth center – my first water birth with a doula. And our happy last came along a few years later in 2011 – born in our home under the supervision of a loving home birth midwife and four amazing doulas – four. I love to spend time with my family traveling, but mostly we stay home, play at the park, cook, go bowling, watch movies and read. I love to read. I have two fur babies that are pretty sure they are my real babies and those humans are usurping their position. I am one of the luckiest people in the world.

Care philosophy

I meet families where they are. Each family is unique, with needs and desires that are specific to them. I hope to support families, without judgment by getting to know them. I believe prenatal education and relationship building are among the greatest tools a doula can possess. My goal is to support every family without judgment, creating a safe space for you to decide what is important.

Kathleen was my doula for 3 unmedicated VBACs in a hospital setting – all of which were high risk pregnancies. After having an unplanned and traumatic C-section with my 1st pregnancy, I knew I needed to hire a doula for any subsequent pregnancies. Kathleen helped me process my c-section and validated my feelings. She worked with my husband and myself in several home and office visits prior to all births. She offered great mental, emotional and physical support during the entire process. She worked very collaboratively with my OBGYN and was well respected by all hospital staff.
Kathleen was my person during all labors (and my husband is grateful for her as well). She always knows the right reassuring things to say as needed and the physical touch to give. She always knew what I needed – even when I didn’t know what I needed. She is truly magical in helping me achieve 3 unmedicated and beautiful VBACs.

I sought to become a doula when I was pregnant with my youngest - I feel in love with birth itself and read everything I could to prepare my mind and body the best I could. After walking through intense trauma from his birth (situational, not medical), it only solidified my resolve to become a doula to come alongside other young moms or single moms or women in abusive situations, to support them in this precious time, when no one else will be their voice. I live and support others in Bay Area Houston, mostly through hosting virtual birth and postpartum courses. Find out more about me at www.simplenaturalmama.com

Lactation Consultant: FAQs

A certified lactation consultant is a professional that helps parents address and solve their breastfeeding problems. Many new parents believe that breastfeeding is easy, only to find more obstacles than anticipated. 92% of parents say they are having problems with breastfeeding their new baby within only 3 days.

Nursing doesn’t always come naturally.

Breastfeeding can be overwhelming and all-consuming. A lactation consultant in Houston, TX can identify issues such as low milk supply, latching problems, or nipple engorgement. Lactation consultants help parents understand the best way to comfortably breastfeed their baby and help them navigate breastfeeding social norms. They can also help reduce stress and anxiety about breastfeeding, or help with specific challenges (such as breastfeeding twins, for example). Other parents might just want emotional support that doesn’t currently exist within their family, workplace, or network or friends.

Certified lactation consultants can also help with specialized issues that may arise with premature children or sick children. A parent may not have thought about breastfeeding help until they notice that their baby isn’t gaining weight properly, and finally realize that they might need some support and knowledge before continuing to breastfeed. On the other hand, some parents might prepare with a lactation consultant months before the baby is born.

Whether you are planning ahead or are thinking about a lactation now that you are having breastfeeding issues or concerns, a lactation consultant can be incredibly helpful and useful for parents.
