I grew up in Austin, TX in a sweet old neighborhood bursting with young families. I was raised to be a very open minded, generous, and compassionate individual. I was also very curious and fascinated by pregnancy and birth from a very young age. I quickly became a favored child caregiver because of my strong work ethic and calm, nurturing spirit. As I continued child care through and after college, these varied and rich experiences with parents and children naturally led me to my interest in becoming a birth, postpartum and sibling doula. I have trained with both Doula Trainings International (DTI) and Doulas of North America (DONA). Training with two different organizations has given me a diversity of lenses when it comes awareness and education on how to best support the families I work with. I have also opened my scope and skills additionally, by becoming a reiki practitioner. Giving emotional and physical support to birthing people before, during, and after the life-changing experience of childbirth has become my passion. Through education about good prenatal health, labor, lactation, delivery and postpartum care, I hope to help birthing people feel confident and empowered. Apart from my doula work, I love cooking and eating delicious food and dancing! I absolutely love being in nature, and enjoy taking off on adventures whenever I have the opportunity.

Care philosophy

My philosophy of care as a doula is that the parent comes before the baby. I believe that if parents are being taken care of, then they will be better parents. Of course babies should be loved and nurtured and have all of their needs met, but the parents need these things as well. In a society so far removed from the village culture, I try to bring that back, through guidance and support.

Anna believes that a thriving family is bedrock for everything we hold dear, individually and collectively. She knows that the requirements for family thriving are simple, a pleasure to provide and receive even, but somewhat lost in many families’ traditions. Through her work with families, her studies, and her own experiences, she has come to appreciate how multi-dimensional the transition to parenthood is, and how abundant loving care and attention can make a tremendous difference to all involved. She completed birth and postpartum doula training through Doulas of North America in 2012. In 2013 she became a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She has attended over 130 births in hospitals, homes, and birthing centers throughout New York City, plus several births virtually (even before Covid 19!). From 2013-2016 she was a volunteer full-spectrum doula with the Doula Project. She has also volunteered with the Mothers' Milk Bank of Austin, Texas, mixing and packaging donated milk for local NICU babies! She is a certified INNATE Postpartum Traditions provider. She holds a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase and was a professional dancer for 13 years. She is a mother of two forces of nature. Her own two births, and especially her own two postpartum experiences, have been deeply transformative, eye opening and life altering. She loves art, music, trees, pollinators, cooking, quiet, books, podcasts, rugs, tea, bicycling, the beach, sunshine and rain storms.

Care philosophy

Anna is devoted to providing care that promotes thriving through transformative life events. Her passion for supporting families through birth and the postpartum time stems from a belief in and dedication to autonomy, process, growth. She is a skilled listener and a warm and empathetic presence.

For over ten years I have followed my passion for maternity and infant health in any way I could. I picked up many jobs involving infant care as well as completing a Bachelor's of Family Consumer Science. After graduation, I started my work as a nanny following my passion for infant care. I became certified as a postpartum doula because I was passionate about reaching more families and helping to support families beyond child care. I wanted to use my skills to help nurture the caregiver as well. My combined passion for early child development and maternity care has led me to postpartum work. I hope to offer tools as families transition to a new role as well as a place to feel cared for while caring for their little one.

Care philosophy

I am passionate about helping your family welcome your newest member into your life. My biggest priority is to offer my expertise in a non-judgmental and unbiased way. My goal is for every family to feel empowered, loved and connected to themselves and each other as they continue on into this next chapter of life.

The first time I witnessed the miracle of birth I was fourteen and supporting my sister through her first pregnancy and birth journey. I was so drawn into the moment, amazed at the process of birth and the vulnerability of it all. Fast forward several years and I was able to be a support person for her during her three other birth experiences. Each one so different but every time so incredible. I have been called to birth work for a few years and now is the beginning of my official start to the work. I hope to provide a grounding presence, an open-mind, a reassuring support when you need it, and a calming energy. I recognize how important this moment is for an individual and their family. For that reason, I am passionate about it becoming an empowering moment full of support and validation.

Care philosophy

My values as a doula include compassionate care, open-mindedness, inclusivity, presence and adaptability. I truly believe that you know what is best for yourself and I want to foster and support that unfolding. Every person is so different and I want to make sure we communicate well so that I can best support you and your partner (if applicable.) I look forward to connecting with you!

Her calming presence and labor techniques helped me when I was ready to give up. I would definitely recommend Molly to a friend. Having the right support during pregnancy, labor , and postpartum is one of the best things you can do.

I am so grateful to have had Tierra on my birth team. She brought so much peace and relief to my experience. I began going into early labor around 8 pm Wednesday night and my son wasn’t born until 11 am Saturday morning. Easy to say it was a rough ride, but Tierra was there through the thick of it. I would highly recommend her to anyone about to have a child. Not to mention she gives the best massages and bodywork!

In a past life, I was a traveller. I roamed the country selling handmade wares at artists markets around the US. In my off time, I would devour books about birth and midwifery and I knew when I settled in the Austin area that I would begin my path as a birth worker. I have been a doula for over five years now, with a brief hiatus to birth and raise my own wild toddler. I find so much fulfilment in seeing people become parents and my hope is that you always feel supported, respected, and heard throughout the journey.

Care philosophy

I believe there is magic and beauty present in all births, from unmedicated to cesarean. My goal as a doula is to provide the support and care necessary to create a birth experience where you feel respected and empowered.

Care philosophy

I believe that you have everything within you right now to have the empowered and autonomous birth of your dreams. Just as a sherpa guides one in the Himalayas, I believe that birth doulas guide families through the inner-workings and journey through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I first became interested in doula work during the pregnancy and birth of my daughter in 2016. At the time, I quickly realized that I knew close to nothing about childbirth, and felt overwhelmed trying to navigate the planning and decision making process. My research mind kicked in and I delved deep into the birth world, learning everything I could. This led me to investigate not only birth, breastfeeding and newborn care, but also nutrition, mindfulness, and holistic lifestyle. In January 2020 I was lucky to attend an amazing full spectrum doula training, preparing me to support families in birth and postpartum, with additional training in reproductive health. My passion is combining the scientific and researched information necessary to make the best choices for your birth, along with my holistic knowledge and spiritual perspective in my doula work. I genuinely love to meet expecting parents and share my knowledge, support, and passion for birth and babies!

Care philosophy

My goal is to provide parents with the knowledge and support needed to confidently step into your new role as mother or parent. I use holistic and traditional practices to support healing from birth, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I also offer practical advice on taking care of your new baby while also caring for yourself during the exciting, sensitive, and challenging postpartum time.

Starting Doulas of Austin has allowed me and my team to focus on the emotional and psychological components of birth and postpartum in hopes of achieving better outcomes for expectant and growing families. With a respect of science and medicine coupled with the softer side of compassionate doula care, I'm confident that we’re elevating the standard of doula care in Austin.

Care philosophy

To find a postpartum doula, you can also browse the available postpartum doulas near you in Austin, TX and read reviews, compare pricing, experience and fit. Send the postpartum doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend reaching out to and interviewing at least three postpartum doulas before hiring a postpartum doula near you. After interviewing, hire the most qualified postpartum doula near you and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a postpartum doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a postpartum doula in Austin, TX is $34 per hour, but typically ranges from $29 to $39 per hour. These costs are based on a representative group of 66 postpartum doulas surveyed by Meela in the Austin area. The average cost of a postpartum doula in Austin, TX is about the same as the average cost of a postpartum doula in the state of Texas, which is $33 per hour.

When hiring a postpartum doula in Austin, TX, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your postpartum doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

A postpartum doula in Austin, TX is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Austin, TX offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Austin, TX can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Austin, TX. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Austin, TX, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Austin, TX is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Austin, TX: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
