Practice overview
My passion for nurturing and honoring new parents began with the birth of my son March 2019. I spent months preparing extensively for pregnancy and the labor and delivery, but was completely overwhelmed and unprepared for recovery.
I labored in a hospital for 21 hours in what my OB called at my 6 week check up, “text book labor”. Nothing about the labor or my recovery felt “text book” to me as I had envisioned something completely different. I ended up with a pelvic floor tear, urinary incontinence and a postpartum uterine infection contributing to my year long battle with postpartum anxiety and insomnia. I am grateful I knew to advocate for myself because of my therapy training and insist on pelvic floor physical therapy despite being encouraged to “just do kegels”. I felt depleted, anxious and alone those first few months while wondering if I’d ever sleep or feel whole again.
Like many individuals, I had many nursing (body feeding / breastfeeding / chestfeeding) challenges including painful, poor latch, and oversupply.
Desperate for answers and support, I researched night after night and created my modern day village to include a pelvic health physical therapist, a pediatric dentist to address my son’s oral restrictions, a lactation consultant, a psychologist for counseling and a chiropractor for my son’s bodywork and craniosacral therapy. Knowing what I know now, I wish my village would have included a postpartum doula.
My challenging and overwhelming postpartum experience has ignited my passion to help families during this sacred transition with education, resources and non-biased support to allow for the most gentle and joyful transition possible.
