“Elysia was an amazing support person to have before, during and after the birth of my daughter.

This was our first child and I didn’t know what to expect. The birthing sessions were extremely informative and detailed. When I began labor at home, Elysia was always so responsive when I had any questions. She even came over to check on me because I thought it was time to go to the hospital (it wasn’t haha) so I’m glad she was there for me and I didn’t waste my time going to the hospital early.

Having Elysia in the room with me and my husband at the hospital during the birth was invaluable. She knew what to do and what to say to keep me calm and help me through everything. I originally intended on doing a non-medicated birth but that changed when I got to the hospital. Even with the epidural, I had issues with the catheter and back pains. I don’t remember much from the labor but I vividly remember Elysia rubbing my back and putting pressure on my back during contractions to stop the pain. She knew exactly what to do! She took pictures and videos during the birth which I will forever treasure.

After coming home from the hospital, I had trouble breastfeeding and she got me in touch with the most amazing lactation consultant.

From beginning to end, my experience with Elysia was amazing. Even now, a year after my daughter’s birth, I am still in contact with Elysia providing her with donations for the charities she supports. She is all around an amazing person!”

For the last 23 years my energy and focus has been on raising my own little family. Being a wife and mom, to my 3 kids, has filled my life with adventure, joy, learning, and love. Now that they are mostly grown and don't need me as much, I thought it was time to pursue my passion for taking care of birthing people and helping them to have the best birth experience that they can have. I started my formal training in November 2022. I spent all of 2023 studying, reading, writing, and doula-ing my first client birth. I am now excited and looking forward to a 2024 filled with more births! My care includes 2 in person prenatal appointments, text and call access from 36 weeks on, your labor and birth and 2 postpartum appointments.

Care philosophy

As a labor and birth doula my biggest priority is the safety and comfort of my birthing client. It is important to get to know you and your birthing partner (if applicable) to find out what kind of comfort measures and support you are looking for. It is important to be familiar with past deliveries, health issues and traumas to help you feel as seen and comfortable as possible.

After going through my first pregnancy, I felt this amazing empowerment and connection with my body, my husband and my baby. The experience was intense and overwhelming, but also very very amazing, and I was grateful to have my own doula there to nurture and keep me balanced throughout the process. I felt then that it was my calling to become a doula. The word “doula” is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘woman caregiver’, and in my practice I offer support to women and their partners before, during and after childbirth. My role is to help facilitate safe, positive and empowering birthing experiences by offering the information, emotional support and physical support needed during this time. Serving pregnant women from around the world in my previous work challenged my thoughts on how pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period should be experienced. These women taught me more than I could ever put in words and ignited my passion for birth work. As my passion grew, I began doing research on birth options in America, I learned very quickly that the maternal and fetal death rate in this country is the worst of any other developed country which lead me to want to be apart of the solution.

Care philosophy

A birthing person should have the education and support to birth in what they consider the best way possible. I have supported Cesareans, birth with Epidurals, fully natural, Hospital, Home and Birth Center. It is their birth I am a tool for their best birth.

We’ve worked with Park for both of our son’s journey into the world for pre and post natal care. My husband is very hands on and it was important we found a doula that could gel with our family climate, which meant observing then engaging. It was very refreshing to have such an intuitive and instinctual doula such as, Park. Park is relatable and has a unique ability to make everyone feel calm and comfortable, which is exactly what is needed during the birth process. Hire her and your life will forever be changed, and her pricing is extremely affordable compared to what other doulas are charging, which was also important to us since we’re two time home birthing parents who have to pay out of pocket.

In my role as a mother of five, student, teacher, doula, and community youth advocate, I've witnessed the need for healing within our communities. In response, I've embraced my innate qualities of compassion and a commitment to supporting individuals on their birthing and parenthood journeys. Growing up, I would only hear our socialized woes of childbirth. When I learned of my first pregnancy, I was concerned about how I would endure the pain. Now, having experienced my unique path through childbirth and motherhood, I celebrate the diverse ways individuals navigate pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and nursing. As a Doula, I'm dedicated to amplifying the lesser-shared stories, recognizing the individual meaning and purpose inherent in each birth journey. Embracing the sacredness of the fourth "trimester," I am dedicated to supporting postpartum mothers. I believe this period is as crucial as the preceding three trimesters, deserving of attention, care, and understanding. Drawing from my journey, I've cultivated a deep appreciation for the significance of breastfeeding and the many forms of bottle feeding. I'm grateful for the opportunity to nurse my children and have become an advocate for spreading the "good word" regarding the myriad benefits and options of nursing for both mother and baby. In 2022, I completed a 20-hour Loving Support Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training, as a recommitment to supporting mothers on their breastfeeding journeys. Looking ahead, I am excited to pursue IBCLC certification, further enhancing my ability to empower and assist mothers in their breastfeeding experiences. In essence, my doula practice is founded on the principles of compassion, personalized support, and the celebration of diverse birthing stories. I am driven by a profound belief in the significance of each individual's journey and a commitment to fostering healing within our communities. As I continue to grow and evolve in my various roles, I remain dedicated to providing unwavering support, education, and advocacy to those embarking on the transformative path of childbirth and motherhood.

Care philosophy

I prioritize empathy, empowerment, and holistic support. Every birth journey is unique, deserving personalized care. I empower clients through informed decision-making, advocate for their choices, and offer continuous, holistic presence. Postpartum, my commitment extends to nurturing a smooth transition into parenthood, ensuring each individual feels supported, empowered, and heard.

Hello! I'm Cara, a wife and a mother to 4. I started my path to birth services in 2018 when I registered to become a postpartum doula, shortly after I added childbirth educator and birth doula. I have always loved on babies and children (not just my own) and even walked with my best friend, as a 15 year old, through her pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I had no idea at that age that I would someday find out that I could pursue a career in doing just that. I myself was a single mother at 19, and had my youngest 6 years later. Their births are why I am so passionate now about mothers learning and understanding their rights in the most vulnerable time of their lives. I want you to have the birth that you desire, or as close as it can be. Whether that birth is at home or birth center, medicated or unmedicated in a hospital, induction or cesarean.

Care philosophy

"Mothering the mother" is my main philosophy, and is shown in different ways I serve you and your family. I want you to have the birth and postpartum that you as a woman and mother deserves. My personal goal is to empower you through support and education of evidence based practices. I want for you to be confident through out your pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with pregnancy and birth. I grew up in Nevada with horses and there were many nights I stayed awake waiting for a mare to give birth. These births were magical and each birth I have attended since has left me with the same sense of awe in a mother’s strength. When I found out I was pregnant with my first son, I began to read everything I could about pregnancy and birth. I was perplexed by how complicated the medical system makes birth in America today. I hired a doula to help me navigate the process and I will be forever grateful to her for the guidance and support she provided. A couple years after my son was born, I decided to go to nursing school at Georgia State and I graduated after the birth of my third son. Through my labor and delivery rotation, I saw firsthand how important it is for a family to have strong support and evidence-based information when making decisions about their birth. As a nurse, I felt limited in the amount of support I was able to offer birthing women and followed my heart to become a doula. As a doula and a Registered Nurse, I can help families make informed decisions about their labor and birth in any birthing environment. I love being there for my clients through each stage of their birth journey, from getting to know them to helping with the first latch. I have learned from my journey through fertility challenges, miscarriages, three births, and parenting that each situation is different and birth choices are not one size fits all. This knowledge allows me to provide non-judgmental and unwavering support. Each of my three births were very different and each of them have been life changing. I am a strong supporter of human rights and believe all birthing people have a right to a dignified birth of their choosing. I am grateful to work with all people and all families. I live with my husband, three boys, and two dogs in Grant Park. When I am not at a birth, I love traveling with my family, camping, watching my boys play soccer, spin classes, long walks outside with my dogs, and movies.

Care philosophy

By providing non judgmental support and evidence-based information about choices surrounding pregnancy and birth, I help my clients to be confident in their decisions which ultimately leads them to be confident parents. I respect the differences between people and their life experiences. I do not believe there is a one size fits all birth and all people deserve to be heard, loved and supported.

I have nothing but good things to say about Megan! We connected with her super early (at the recommendation of a friend who also worked with Megan), so she supported us through much of our pregnancy. I was (am) an anxious first time mom and had lots of questions that Megan always answered with patience and kindness. My labor and birth progressed surprisingly rapidly and Megan was available for all the (many) texts and phone calls throughout that day. Her presence was so calming and helped give me and my spouse confidence through labor knowing someone was there to support and advocate for us if we needed it. She also stayed in touch and answered questions postpartum as well; if she ever didn’t know the answer to a question, she reached out to her network to find help. I would hire her 1000x over!

I am consistently blown away by the power and perseverance of women to birth their babies. Whether their labor is straight forward, or full of unforeseen obstacles, the enormous strength of women is my take away after each birth I attend. There is no wrong way to give birth. However, I am most drawn to the raw, unhindered process of unmedicated birth. And because I am fully aware of how this one day in your life can have a lasting impact on how you mother, how you feel, and how you view yourself as a woman, I am particularly passionate about supporting mothers who have previously experienced birth trauma.

Care philosophy

In September 2014, my first daughter was born, and I became a mother. This incredible day, when I made the transformation from woman to mother, was the spark for my passion for supporting women in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods. Whom the mother chooses to support her during this special time is one of the most important decisions she will make in her pregnancy.

First, let's break a little ice. My name is Alexandria. I'm originally from Memphis. I've lived in New York City, Los Angeles, Medellin and have now made a home in Atlanta. I have a bachelor's degree from St. John's University and a master's degree from Columbia University. I love a good TV series. I have a slight addiction to office supplies. I'm pretty sure baking is my other calling, and I'm on a mission to find the perfect pickle recipe. I love children, dogs and I'm actively overcoming my fear of cats. I really enjoy reading nonfiction, but I'd like to start dabbling in fiction so let me know if you have any suggestions! :) Now, who am I as your Doula? I am a lover of all things pregnancy, birth and motherhood. It is true that people give birth every single day, but that commonality makes it no less remarkable and miraculous. And I am committed to honoring that. As a Certified Birth Doula, I will draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide you physical, emotional and informational support to assist you in having an empowering birth experience. I will also help facilitate communication with medical staff to ensure you are able to obtain the information needed to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. Let's be honest. Everyone experiences pregnancy, labor and birth differently. Whether you love it or you're just trying to get through it (or fall somewhere in between), my job is to support you through it all. If you need to be comforted, I'll comfort you. If you need to be pushed, I'll give you that nudge. If you need some calm, I'll create that space for you. If you need to vent, I'm all ears. This isn't a one-size-fits-all. I want to get to know you and your needs and show up for you in a way that is best for you. It's also my job to show up for partners so that they can be present for you. I will facilitate ways for your partner to be helpful and involved as desired so that you both can share in this incredibly special experience. Lastly, I will always provide mother-centric care and evidence-based information, but I am not here to judge you or your choices. I want you to birth how and where you feel safe and comfortable as that is essential to the health of you and your baby. Above all, you deserve respectful care, a peaceful, loving birth experience and an awesome doula.

Care philosophy

Root & Moon's mission is to provide mother-centric care and holistic, evidence-based support to expectant mothers during pregnancy, labor and birth. We are dedicated to strengthening the mind and preparing the body for the spiritual and transformative undertaking of bringing forth new life.

Alexandria was quite frankly a God-sent figure during my pregnancy and delivery. Through Alexandria’s care and knowledge, I learned the balance of care between my baby and me – mentally and physically. Along the way, I also learned more about myself and my body than ever imagined which in many ways made my pregnancy more enjoyable and more importantly manageable (especially with inevitable anxiety). My husband and I are deeply grateful for Alexandria’s loving support and service to our family. We will absolutely work with Alexandria again when we are ready to continue building our family.

I believe serving families is my calling. I've been in the early childhood field/ nannying for over six years. I have a passion for caring for families, I tend to go above and beyond when everyone is watching and when no one is watching. I've always checked in on my mothers but I knew my primary focus was taking of the children because that is what I was hired for. I felt I needed to do more, as caregivers, we are here to support and help our families as much as we can BUT I still felt like I needed to do MORE ! It wasn't until I went into the labor room with my sister during her first child, guiding her through every breath and every push--- that moment I knew I wanted to be by a mothers' side guiding them and helping them through every step of the way of their pregnancy journey to watching their child grow up. That's when I learned what a Doula was and began my journey to becoming one back in 2020. My slogan is " Taking Care of You from Infinity and Beyond". I provide Antepartum, Labor, and Postpartum Support plus child birth education virtual classes and placenta encapsulation

Care philosophy

It is important to me that you feel confident, empowered, and heard through your birth experience. I will be your advocate but I will also empower you to be a advocate for yourself, speaking up for what you want and need during your pregnancy journey. I am here to support you and your family as a WHOLE, however you see support, I will try my best to accommodate your wishes.

As a young child, around 6 years of age, I fell in love with the "Birth Story" on TLC! With that show, I was hooked on everything Birth, Baby, and how I can play a part in it. So as an adult, I shuffled with the idea of becoming an OB/GYN, or labor and delivery nurse, and I soon figured it wasn't for me. Once I discovered Doula and Midwifery I was hooked and the fact that there was a possibility to be Holistic and Natural in the approach to birth. So I decided to become certified as a Holistic Doula with The Matrona in Feb 2020. That was the best decision ever and I'm currently waiting for funds for my midwifery courses.

Care philosophy

The support that I provide, deals heavily with communication, physical comfort, for you and your baby. I believe an can be there for both parents as an empowering conduit with meditation and breathing exercises to keep everyone centered and open for the blessings birth has to offer.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Sandy Springs, GA.

You can browse through the available doulas in Sandy Springs, GA and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

These costs are based on a representative group of 51 doulas surveyed by Meela in the Sandy Springs and Atlanta areas. The average cost of a doula in Sandy Springs, GA is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of Georgia, which is $896.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Sandy Springs, GA is $1,458 the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Sandy Springs, GA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Sandy Springs, GA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Sandy Springs, GA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Sandy Springs, GA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Sandy Springs, GA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Sandy Springs, GA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Sandy Springs, GA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
