Serving pregnant women from around the world in my previous work challenged my thoughts on how pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period should be experienced. These women taught me more than I could ever put in words and ignited my passion for birth work. As my passion grew, I began doing research on birth options in America, I learned very quickly that the maternal and fetal death rate in this country is the worst of any other developed country which lead me to want to be apart of the solution.

Care philosophy

A birthing person should have the education and support to birth in what they consider the best way possible. I have supported Cesareans, birth with Epidurals, fully natural, Hospital, Home and Birth Center. It is their birth I am a tool for their best birth.

In my role as a mother of five, student, teacher, doula, and community youth advocate, I've witnessed the need for healing within our communities. In response, I've embraced my innate qualities of compassion and a commitment to supporting individuals on their birthing and parenthood journeys. Growing up, I would only hear our socialized woes of childbirth. When I learned of my first pregnancy, I was concerned about how I would endure the pain. Now, having experienced my unique path through childbirth and motherhood, I celebrate the diverse ways individuals navigate pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and nursing. As a Doula, I'm dedicated to amplifying the lesser-shared stories, recognizing the individual meaning and purpose inherent in each birth journey. Embracing the sacredness of the fourth "trimester," I am dedicated to supporting postpartum mothers. I believe this period is as crucial as the preceding three trimesters, deserving of attention, care, and understanding. Drawing from my journey, I've cultivated a deep appreciation for the significance of breastfeeding and the many forms of bottle feeding. I'm grateful for the opportunity to nurse my children and have become an advocate for spreading the "good word" regarding the myriad benefits and options of nursing for both mother and baby. In 2022, I completed a 20-hour Loving Support Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training, as a recommitment to supporting mothers on their breastfeeding journeys. Looking ahead, I am excited to pursue IBCLC certification, further enhancing my ability to empower and assist mothers in their breastfeeding experiences. In essence, my doula practice is founded on the principles of compassion, personalized support, and the celebration of diverse birthing stories. I am driven by a profound belief in the significance of each individual's journey and a commitment to fostering healing within our communities. As I continue to grow and evolve in my various roles, I remain dedicated to providing unwavering support, education, and advocacy to those embarking on the transformative path of childbirth and motherhood.

Care philosophy

I prioritize empathy, empowerment, and holistic support. Every birth journey is unique, deserving personalized care. I empower clients through informed decision-making, advocate for their choices, and offer continuous, holistic presence. Postpartum, my commitment extends to nurturing a smooth transition into parenthood, ensuring each individual feels supported, empowered, and heard.

My first home birth experience was with Alisha, my fourth son, after experiencing birth in a hospital. Alisha was very supportive, knowledgeable as well made me feel safe and comforted. She knew exactly what do during each stage of the birthing process , including after birth. I gave birth to a 13 pound baby! I could not have done it without Alisha., and there were no medical complications. The best home birth experience.

Hello! I'm Cara, a wife and a mother to 4. I started my path to birth services in 2018 when I registered to become a postpartum doula, shortly after I added childbirth educator and birth doula. I have always loved on babies and children (not just my own) and even walked with my best friend, as a 15 year old, through her pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I had no idea at that age that I would someday find out that I could pursue a career in doing just that. I myself was a single mother at 19, and had my youngest 6 years later. Their births are why I am so passionate now about mothers learning and understanding their rights in the most vulnerable time of their lives. I want you to have the birth that you desire, or as close as it can be. Whether that birth is at home or birth center, medicated or unmedicated in a hospital, induction or cesarean.

Care philosophy

"Mothering the mother" is my main philosophy, and is shown in different ways I serve you and your family. I want you to have the birth and postpartum that you as a woman and mother deserves. My personal goal is to empower you through support and education of evidence based practices. I want for you to be confident through out your pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum.

I was blessed to have Cara at my birth to support me and my husband, and help me stay as close to my birth plan as possible. She had an incredibly calming and encouraging presence. She also met with us a few times beforehand to learn about us and my goals for the birth, as well as educate my husband and I on labor strategies. Highly recommend having Cara on your team!

As a holistic nutritionist and birth doula, I help women gain clarity and shed overwhelm through pre-conception, pregnancy, and childbirth. I am based in Athens, GA, where I provide in-person doula and nutrition support. I also accept virtual clients for nutrition support, whether in the pre-conception, pregnancy or postpartum phase. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with women as they prepare for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. I believe food is what connects us all and is at the root of all necessary healing - whether your goal is to sleep more, improve digestion, or promote fertility. When I'm not working with clients, you can find me on a stroll in my neighborhood, perusing vintage shops, or putting a slab of butter on whatever piece of food I have in my hand.

Care philosophy

My service as a birth doula includes ongoing availability via text, phone, and email as well as 2+ prenatal visits, continuous labor support, 1-2 hours of immediate postpartum support, and 1 postpartum visit. Throughout our time working together, I offer emotional, physical, informational, and advocacy support for both the birthing person and partner during this life-changing transition.

With my first child I didn’t know anything about birth and I felt very pushed around and overwhelmed by that experience after that I decided I wanted to help others enjoy the births of their children so I set out to educate myself so I could help others.

Care philosophy

I believe that every mother deserves support wither rich or poor, young or old, short or tall. I want to give mothers the support that I didn’t always have.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Athens, GA.

You can browse through the available doulas in Athens, GA and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

  1. Get your list of Athens, GA doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.

The cost of a doula in Athens, GA can range from $693 to $1,098. These costs are based on a representative group of 288 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of Georgia. The average cost of a doula in Georgia is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Athens, GA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Athens, GA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Athens, GA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Athens, GA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Athens, GA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Athens, GA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Athens, GA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Athens, GA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
