I am born and raised in Seattle. I am a wife and mother of two littles and one furry baby. I have been an educator for the last 10 years, 7 of those teaching special needs students. As a birth worker, I have an empathetic approach to this work that centers around support and safety because our communities deserve deep and restorative care. As well as physical support during labor, my role is also to act as a bridge of communication for the birthing person and their family. Every birthing person deserves to have someone there to guide and assist them in making educated choices about their pregnancy, and remind them that they can trust the strength of their bodies during this time. www.laboroflovedoulallc.com

Care philosophy

Community-based doula support is important because experiences differ between groups, and families deserve to have their support person be someone who can understand their experiences and empathize with their concerns and fears. I believe the most effective change occurs when communities are empowered and able to take care of their own. I’m here to provide unbiased information, emotional support.

As a midwife I have had the great honor of working together with Ciarra. She is dedicated to supporting birthing families as a doula–her work is informed by her years of personal experience as a mother, partner, and advocate, as well as her continued training in birth work. She is passionate about supporting the community through critical analysis and exploration of birth options, and sharing coping skills and comfort measures. Ciarra infuses every personal interaction with positivity and joyful energy.

I was called to birth work over 20 years ago, after assisting the arrival of my youngest sister. Birth is a human right, and I believe all humans deserve a safe and supported birth. I began my doula training in 2017 with ToLabor. I had my first child in 2019, with a doula by my side and it cemented my desire to support other laboring persons on their path. I am certified with PALS as of 2021, and ToLabor as of 2022. I am married and have 2 children. One was a birth center transferred to the hospital pre labor and the other was born at home in a tub. I h a p p i l y support any and all birth scenarios. I am fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. Prenatal Care: 2+ visits to answer questions, review or create birth preferences, go over comfort measures, set up a postpartum plan, share resources and get to know each other. I'm available your entire pregnancy via phone/text/email. Labor/Birth: I will be on call 24/7 2 weeks prior to your EDD and until you go into labor. Once I join you, I will be a continuous support physically and emotionally through your entire labor (barring any extraordinary circumstances). Post Partum: I will visit 2-3 times (more can be arranged) to ensure your needs are being met, you are feeling supported & connect you with any resources you need. I'm available as much as you need those first few weeks! You can visit www.goldenbirthdoula.com to learn more. Reach out to schedule a free consult!

Care philosophy

My passion is education and sharing evidence based resources with a particular heart for post partum planning/support. I want you to be an active participant in your own pregnancy/labor, and provide you with everything you need to make informed decisions and feel powerful in this process. My support is for both the birthing person AND a birth partner.

I have had the good fortune to work with Lana as a part of her birth team with both her babies, and to work with her as a colleague as well. She is warm, welcoming, and thoughtful. She is dedicated to ensuring that those around are comfortable and cared for, and that they have the necessary information and resources. She asks great questions and seeks deeper understanding. I always cherish an opportunity to spend time with her!

I have been a birth doula since 2018. I feel honored every time I am invited into a birth space. I love walking alongside pregnant people on their journey into parenthood. I am available to parents from the time of hire by phone, email, and zoom check in. I provide two prenatal meetings to discuss birth preferences, coping measures, partner support, postpartum planning and more. I am on call for parents at 38 weeks and provide continuous support on the labor day until 1-2 hours after the birth. I provide one in-person postpartum visit to help process the birth and provide resources, and an optional second postpartum visit via zoom.

Care philosophy

I honor the remarkable differences in each birth story, and hope to encourage parents to trust in themselves and the birth process. I am also a certified birth photographer and childbirth educator. I love providing resources for parents, helping them navigate decision making in labor, and telling birth stories with my photography.

Birth is an important gateway for families into parenting or expanding their family. My focus is in supporting your relationship with your partner and assisting both of you through the birth of your baby. I truly believe your partner is in labor as much as you are, (mentally, emotionally, and spiritually), and as a unit need nurturing and support. My hope is that you come away from birth more bonded and connected.

Care philosophy

My focus is on supporting the birthing person, and their partner, before birth and through the birth itself. I teach Hypnosis for Birth in private sessions to prepare for birth, and during birth providing emotional, physical, and informational support.

I am so happy that I found Nancy for my birth services. My birth center highly recommended her as one of the area’s best. I originally signed up just for Nancy’s Hypnosis for Birth classes and discovered she was also a birth doula. After her consultation call, I knew I had to sign up for both services!

Her hypnosis classes were by far the best birth classes I had ever taken. I took a birthing class with my firstborn, but I didn’t feel like it gave me tools I could use for labor. However, I became so prepared with Nancy’s and learned SO much! These classes are a MUST for anyone who is expecting.

As my doula, I trusted her and felt safe in her knowledge when it was time to get to the birthing center. She knew it was time to go as soon as I called her, which was helpful because I wasn’t sure if it was yet that close to giving birth. She ensured I was comfortable during my labor and that both my husband and mother felt a part of the experience.

If you can work with Nancy, I highly recommend it! If you can take her class and hire her as a doula, it is the BEST combo! I recommend Nancy to any expecting mother who wants to feel confident and have actual tools to help support her during labor.

Cynthia supported the birth of my 4th baby during the pandemic in 2020. At the time I was couch surfing with my 3 older kids and was planning to have a home birth. Things were scary and unknown but when Cynthia became my doula, I felt a safe. She did everything in her power to support me and my wishes. Cynthia provided appointments and information prior to birth. Showed up as a strong and steady force at my birth. Supported me postpartum with meals, encapsulating my placenta, making postpartum tinctures, meals. Etc. I recommend her services to everyone I know. She cares deeply about her clients and supporting women to achieve their dream birth.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

You can hire two types of doulas in Renton, WA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Renton, WA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. 1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Renton, WA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
