Ashanti has been a blessing to me and family since I found her. My first pregnancy I didn’t have much support but Ashanti showed up and showed out, she worked with me and made sure I had the support I needed, always. This is the reason why I’ll always choose her to be my doula, as she is my doula again this time around🎉. Not only is she a great doula, but she’s an awesome mentor and friend. She’ll do anything to make sure her clients feel well supported to the best of her ability and it’s has to be an anointing on her life the way she shows up for her clients all while being a mother herself, a wife, business owner etc (she wears many hats lol). I’m so happy she in my life, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I don't just connect with my clients, I am my clients. I am a hardworking single mom of 3 who had 3 very different birth journeys. I have done work in my community with the focus on perinatal health and lactation especially for BIPOC. I love to meet clients where they are and create a birth or postpartum plan for where they would like to go. With this I am able to support and inform from a place that is tailored to each birth & Postpartum client

Care philosophy

My philosophy is all birthing bodies should be able to birth confidently with the support of information & TLC as they journey into their new chapter. I also believe the support don't just stop at birth, it continues to postpartum and lactation to. That's why my services have been designed to care for families at various stages of their journey

Nishante was very caring and patient. She was able to make appointments work virtually and she made visits when able. Her professionalism was superb. She felt like family. She followed up after delivery and helped through a rocky postpartum period. It was a first time for me, using a doula, and in so glad I went with Nishante. A great experience.

I am a DONA trained postpartum doula with 13 years experience as a Registered Nurse. I am a solo practitioner and I am currently only offering postpartum doula services. I have taken a birth doula training but that doesn’t fit in with my personal life currently. My experience as a nurse has been in a variety of pediatric settings including Neonatal Intensive Care and pediatric home and hospital care.

Care philosophy

I love supporting parents while they find the patterns that work for their families. Adding a new infant to a family is an important transition that often gets overlooked or rushed. I love providing options and letting the parents chose what feels good to them. I am very supportive of feeding human milk when possible and I am very creative with helping the lactating parent reach their goals.

My name is Kyrsten and I am currently living in Hamden, CT. I serve clients in most of Connecticut, along with parts of New York & Massachusetts. I have been working with young children since I was 15 when I started at my local YMCA. After years of childcare, I became the First Aid Coordinator which jumpstarted my healthcare career. I went on to become a Nurse and worked in a pediatric office for over 3 years. Although I loved seeing my patients and learning new things along the way, I never felt I was providing as much care and support I knew I could. Which is when I decided to become a Doula.

Care philosophy

My role as your Doula, whether its during prenatal, labor & birth or postpartum, is to ensure you feel confident during this pivotal time in your life. Welcoming a new baby into your family is a huge adjustment and I'm here to assure you along the way!

The word "Barakat" translates into "blessings", encompassing what a blessing pregnancy and birth are, as well as the blessing that you are welcoming into your life. My goal as your doula is to make your birth experience as blessed as possible.   As a Doula, my goal is to give you and your family the attention and knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum life. I love working with expectant mothers and their families to help them navigate their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys. I look at each new birth as a unique experience and in return I provide mothers with the encouragement and motivation they need. I have always been passionate about women's health, including all things pregnancy and birth-related. After graduating from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Health Sciences, I decided I wanted to become a midwife to best help birthing women and their families. While I am still on my journey to becoming a midwife, I discovered that being a doula is a perfect way to help families on my journey and theirs!

A postpartum doula in Hartford, CT is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Hartford, CT offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Hartford, CT can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Hartford, CT. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Hartford, CT, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Hartford, CT is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Hartford, CT: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
