I've been a doula for 8yrs. I became a doula after having my 3rd baby (out of 6). I had a wonderful experience with a doula that encouraged my journey to follow this path.

Care philosophy

Ashanti has been a blessing to me and family since I found her. My first pregnancy I didn’t have much support but Ashanti showed up and showed out, she worked with me and made sure I had the support I needed, always. This is the reason why I’ll always choose her to be my doula, as she is my doula again this time around🎉. Not only is she a great doula, but she’s an awesome mentor and friend. She’ll do anything to make sure her clients feel well supported to the best of her ability and it’s has to be an anointing on her life the way she shows up for her clients all while being a mother herself, a wife, business owner etc (she wears many hats lol). I’m so happy she in my life, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I don't just connect with my clients, I am my clients. I am a hardworking single mom of 3 who had 3 very different birth journeys. I have done work in my community with the focus on perinatal health and lactation especially for BIPOC. I love to meet clients where they are and create a birth or postpartum plan for where they would like to go. With this I am able to support and inform from a place that is tailored to each birth & Postpartum client

Care philosophy

My philosophy is all birthing bodies should be able to birth confidently with the support of information & TLC as they journey into their new chapter. I also believe the support don't just stop at birth, it continues to postpartum and lactation to. That's why my services have been designed to care for families at various stages of their journey

My name is Kyrsten and I am currently living in Hamden, CT. I serve clients in most of Connecticut, along with parts of New York & Massachusetts. I have been working with young children since I was 15 when I started at my local YMCA. After years of childcare, I became the First Aid Coordinator which jumpstarted my healthcare career. I went on to become a Nurse and worked in a pediatric office for over 3 years. Although I loved seeing my patients and learning new things along the way, I never felt I was providing as much care and support I knew I could. Which is when I decided to become a Doula.

Care philosophy

My role as your Doula, whether its during prenatal, labor & birth or postpartum, is to ensure you feel confident during this pivotal time in your life. Welcoming a new baby into your family is a huge adjustment and I'm here to assure you along the way!

I will support a family in every way I possibly can, physically, emotionally , and educationally. I am a mother to 2 children and I feel having a network of friends, family, colleagues and support systems will make this journey of parenthood that must easier.

Care philosophy

I believe all women should have the opportunity to birth in the environment that makes them feel most comfortable and safe. Wether, that be at home, at a birth center, or at a hospital. I also support women who choose to have pain relief or scheduled c-sections. I am there for all your needs from start to finish and beyond!

I was trained by DONA in 2010. I have since become a RN (NY state licensed) and had 2 children of my own. I have breastfed for almost the entire last 6 years (woah!) and I have experience with multiples.

Care philosophy

Every new mother requires patience and understanding as she meets a new child for the first time. It’s my goal to “work myself out of the job” as the new parents feel more confident to care for the child alone.

My package includes 2 prenatal visits, labor & birth support and a postpartum follow up. At your first appointment we will start your Birth Plan, go over your history, I give instruction on how to do Spinning Babies exercises to help with your comfort and get baby in a good position for the birth. At your second prenatal we will go over Breastfeeding Basics (if you plan to BF), Infant CPR Instruction, go over when to call me and what to pack. All appointments are in your home.

Care philosophy

I believe woman should have a voice in how they would like to birth their baby. Being pregnant and birthing is not a medical condition so lets not treat it like one. I have been in business going on 7 years and have attended hundreds of births. I am there to support you before, during and after you birth. I would love to chat with you about all of your gentle birthing choices.

A postpartum doula in Stamford, CT is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Stamford, CT offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Stamford, CT can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Stamford, CT. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Stamford, CT, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Stamford, CT is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Stamford, CT: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
