Hello, everyone! I am a new Birth Doula and I am super excited to work with you all. I am filled with so much joy, love, motivation, and positivity which have driven me to work in a space where all of this is needed. The larger part of my story in becoming a Doula comes from my own experiences with reproductive medicine and moments where I wish I had someone to support me. I have learned so much in my own life about the importance of trust and love and as a Doula, I have learned how these ideas can make birthing a beautiful experience.

Care philosophy

An important part of the care I provide is making the most sacred moment of life as positive as possible. Leading with love, empathy, motivation, and trust are just some of the elements that I incorporate into my practice. I believe in the power of representation and affirmation as it is important to the expectant mother and families and to improving birth outcomes overall.

I got started as a doula in nursing school where I trained with DONA International to be a birth companion to women & families in Baltimore. Though I'd started school with other aspirations, I fell in love with birthwork and never looked back. There is nothing more sacred or miraculous to me than the moment that parents first hold their child and I love helping them get through labor to that moment. Anyhow, I attended about a dozen births before graduation and got a job in Labor & Delivery (L&D) straight out of school. I've worked as an L&D nurse in both staff and travel positions at ten hospitals across four states since 2011 and learned a great deal about birth and how to support different kinds of moms and families. From medical issues to family drama, I've seen and likely had to manage it all. Additionally, I've worked with every kind of family, even if you're mom-zilla, you can be yourself cause I'll be fine. And because I see providers as my peers, despite no longer working at the bedside, advocating you (or better yet - helping you advocate for yourself) comes naturally to me. I'd love to use my experience to help ease your pregnancy, delivery, and hospital experience.

Care philosophy

I spent 7 years as a bedside Labor & Delivery nurse where I had the honor of helping thousands of women start or expand their family. As a doula, I use that tremendous amount of experience, my comfort with childbirth, and my insider-knowledge of hospitals to help you have an empowering birth experience.

Natalie is not only tender & empathetic, but also encouraging and knowledgeable. Her skills and knowledge as a former L&D bedside truly came through and really helped translate the words, terms and expectations for my high risk pregnancy. I felt incredibly supported throughout the process and have already recommended her to my best friend and his wife in Washington, DC. You can tell Natalie is everyone’s best friend and the level of care she brought to me and my husband was really invaluable!

Becoming a doula has always been a dream of mine! I have a deep passion for social & racial justice as well as sexual, pelvic, and perinatal health. I combine all of this to be the best advocate I can for my clients. It is my fundamental belief that all who are pregnant should be treated with the utmost respect, dignity, and autonomy. Each person should be supported in their choices. My work is trauma informed, HAES (Health at Every Size) centered, and evidence based. The connection you have with your doula is integral. I believe in a gentle, supportive, and educational approach to working with my clients. As a queer woman who holds a multitude of identities it is of the utmost importance for me to support the LGBTQ+ community, as well as other marginalized and underserved communities.

Care philosophy

My mission is to serve all individuals and family constellations by educating, supporting, and witnessing their journey of conception, birth, and beyond. I am advocate who will lead with compassion and center your goals surrounding your pelvic & perinatal health.

Marcia proves a calming and loving experience through and through. When I was having anxiety about being a new mom she was there to full support me . When we were in the delivery room she was able to speak to for me to the doctors and get exactly the experience I wanted. She set up the birthing space sp that my son came into this world with the most positive energy and surrounded by love. She talked me through some really intense contractions where I didnt think I would be able to continue but with Marcia support of her talking me through it. I highly recommend marcia as your doula ypu and your baby through out your pregnancy will feel and be supported in everyway

I began my career as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, after completing my initial Birth Doula training with DONA International in 2016. Shortly afterward, I joined Manhattan Birth's Mentorship program for 18 months of additional trainings on tending to the postpartum psyche, basic life support, Neo-natal resuscitation, supporting LGBTQ+ families, lactation studies, and more. My trainings have allowed me to provide more comprehensive support through education, emotional and physical work, healing through nourishment, placenta encapsulation, baby-caretaking, and more.

Care philosophy

Valencia is a warm and loving professional. She is entuned to her clients needs and is willing to go above beyond to support the family unit of her clients. Valencia is very knowledgeable about the birthing experience, neonatal care, breastfeeding and post partum and much more. She has an abundance of resources for homeopathic remedies and nutritional advice that will both support the mother and the developing fetus/infant. She did a remarkable job at teaching the necessary skills to the family unit to ensure stability and empowering the mother her ability to continue caring for her infant after discharge.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

When hiring a birth doula in Worcester, MA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Worcester, MA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Worcester, MA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Worcester, MA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Worcester, MA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Worcester, MA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Worcester, MA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Worcester, MA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
