My name is Aubrey I’m a Mom and an avid reader , gardener, traveler and DIYer. My interest in birth has been a consistent theme throughout my life. Long before starting my own family, I found myself asking every little detail of the birth stories shared by friends and family. However, my true passion for the subject emerged during my own pregnancy and through the birth of my daughter. It was then that I dove into a myriad of birth resources, podcasts, and books, which is a habit that continues to this day! As a firm believer in the power of education, I advocate for individuals to approach their birthing experiences with confidence and armed with knowledge. This philosophy led me to pursue a career as a doula, where I can actively support and empower others during their own amazing journeys! When I am not practicing as a doula, I love to travel with my little family. My husband and I have made an effort to continue to see the world with our daughter and love taking her on adventures. How great it is that we get to show our children the things we are most passionate about

Care philosophy

I am a strong believer that everyone deserves support, regardless of what their birth goals are. As a Doula I specialize in unmedicated labors, but I fully support my clients who wish to use all forms of pain management options. I am a huge advocate for education and informed choice in all aspects of labor and birth.

Natalie has helped me for years with my yoga and mindfulness practice, in many stages of life. Postpartum, grief, general well-being, and now another pregnancy. She became an integral part of my life and greatly improved how my body feels day-to-day (no aches and pains!), my nervous system and my sleep. Natalie has the most calming way about her and I always look forward to our sessions. She really understands the body and offers me wonderful suggestions on how to improve my practice. I never enjoyed yoga before I met Natalie. She is one in a billion and I adore her! She is so talented.

Mayra was our doula for the birth of both of our children. She really got to know me during my pregnancy and what our values were around childbirth. She thoughtfully helped us come up with our birth plan and was a reassuring presence during the ups and downs of pregnancy and childbirth. She was really able to communicate well with me, my partner, and the hospital team during the birth. We built a lot of trust with Mayra and worked with her again during my second pregnancy. We were able to have empowered natural births both times and I am so grateful to Mayra for her support in making that happen. I couldn’t have done it without her.

Rebekkah was an incredible partner leading up to and during the birth of our son with her calming presence and evidence-based approach. I can say without a doubt that our birth experience would not have been possible without her coaching. She also photographed our birth – the pictures turned out incredible and will be cherished for years to come.

We also hired her for postpartum support as we adjusted to life as new parents. We initially looked forward to her nights so we could get sleep, but the added bonus was seeing the little things she did to care for our son. She has a vast toolkit of tricks as someone who works with many children, and we picked up a lot of good tips as first time parents. She would also share recommendations for other providers depending on what we were wrestling with that week (e.g. lactation, pediatric dentists, bodywork). There’s no manual that comes with a newborn, but Rebekkah made for a viable and helpful alternative.

If (and when) we do it all over again, Rebekkah will be my first call. Anyone would be lucky to have her by their side for pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum.

I have spent the past 10 years mentoring college students and helping them navigate a significant transition in their lives. I've always been interested in the healthcare field though, and when I learned about doulas I saw a great possibility of continuing to help people navigate transition and providing wholistic support to them. I went through full spectrum doula training last year and am looking forward to serving people as a birth and postpartum doula! I work with a non-profit organization so I am able to provide support to people without cost. All people deserve compassionate care and I look forward to working with anyone who may be interested in doula support but is unable to cover the cost. Having Emily as my doula was the best decision my partner and I made during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Emily is professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, compassionate, creative, and so very caring. I can’t speak highly enough of her and how much peace of mind it brought me and my partner being able to reach out to her anytime. Emily gave us first timers tools and techniques to use leading up to labor and during so that I could safely labor. She stayed in frequent communication with us and advised based on my contractions when was the right time to head to the hospital. She was incredibly supportive and arrived to the hospital perfect timing to assist my partner and I. Thank you Emily!

We decided to go the home birth route after researching our options in the early months of pregnancy. Our Midwife gave us a few choices, Daisy was one of them, which we interviewed and ultimately chose Daisy. The main reason was she was so down to earth that I knew she could get along with my fiesty husband and take charge at the same time if something was to go wrong. We also liked the fact that she could still come along with us if we had to go to the hospital to give birth. We were impressed and comforted by her great amount of expertise which we learned from taking one of her virtual child birth classes.

The day of the birth we called Daisy at 2 am and she comforted our anxiety and asked us questions that would help her understand how far we were. As the labor progressed she came over and gave me little exercises like going up and down the Ball and swaying my hips to help move the baby around. She was the one who passed along the info to our midwife of how far along I was.

My midwife came over and 30 minutes later we gave birth to our son. Daisy was there adjusting my pillow, helping me drink water, and encouraging me while I pushed.

After the birth, she checked on us frequently and gave us tidbit of info to help that we still use today. She had herbs for our lotus birth and breastfeeding. I would recommend Daisy to anyone whether home birth or hospital birth to have by your side. We will use her again in the future and wouldn’t think to go elsewhere!-QJ 05/2020

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Skokie, IL.

You can browse through the available doulas in Skokie, IL and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Skokie, IL in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Skokie, IL. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Skokie, IL doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, you can expect the average cost of a doula in Skokie, IL to be $959, which is the average cost of a doula in the state of Illinois. The cost of a doula in Skokie, IL can range from $782 to $1,136. These costs are based on a representative group of 358 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of Illinois. The average cost of a doula in Illinois is about the same as the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Skokie, IL, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Skokie, IL: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Skokie, IL, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Skokie, IL can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Skokie, IL does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Skokie, IL will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Skokie, IL can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Skokie, IL; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
