Hello, everyone! I am a Birth & Postpartum Doula and I am super excited to work with you all. I am filled with so much joy, love, motivation, and positivity which have driven me to work in a space where all of this is needed. The larger part of my story in becoming a Doula comes from my own experiences with reproductive medicine and moments where I wish I had someone to support me. I have learned so much in my own life about the importance of trust and love and as a Doula, I have learned how these ideas can make birthing and postpartum a beautiful experience.

Care philosophy

An important part of the care I provide is making the most sacred moment of life as positive as possible. Leading with love, empathy, motivation, and trust are just some of the elements that I incorporate into my practice. I believe in the power of representation and affirmation as it is important to the expectant mother and families and to improving birth outcomes overall.

I am sociology phd student from Boston College. I become interested in postpartum care work as my friends began to make plans about babies. Many of them do not have relatives nearby, and I want to be able to support them as they welcome new family members. I thought "what better gift can I provide than professional care and advice?" So, I decided to become certified as a postpartum doula. As I entered the world of postpartum care, I began to wonder how else I could support both mothers and doulas. I started a research project hoping to understand the role of postpartum doulas play in this transition period for families. If you are hiring postpartum doulas or identify as a postpartum doula yourself, please reach out to me for more information on how to participate in the study. I hope my research can help doulas and mothers everywhere.

Care philosophy

In many East Asian countries, new mothers stay home rest for a month (sitting the month) to recover. We believe that is a critical period for the body and mind to recover. I want to honor the tradition of care with evidence-based knowledge in my practice. I'm excited to provide non-judgmental support to all my clients and make their personal experience great!

Jier is a thoughtful and caring doula. Early on, when I was starting to think about hiring a doula, she gave me several things to think about so that my husband and I could make a choice that worked for our family. What’s more, Jier is very smart. She understands the complexities of the healthcare system and is empathetic towards those working to navigate it. I felt very supported by Jier leading up to and immediately following the birth of my first child. I would be happy to work with her again.

I will do my best each day to "work myself out of the job," making sure that Upon Arrival’s postpartum care helps my clients to feel supported, comforted, well rested, well fed, and confident in their parenting abilities, intuition, and instinct - fully prepared and ready for their “new normal.” Many women plan for the birth of a baby - but what about the birth of a mother? I am a firm believer in holding space for this sacred time and keeping it as peaceful as possible. While I provide practical support and local resources, I am also trained in Ayurvedic postpartum care as well as other holistically-focused childbirth recovery practices. I specialize on utilizing the healing properties of nutritious meals with my clients, featuring warming ingredients in recipes that are designed specifically for postpartum recovery. I also arrange comfortable environments within the home to maximize relaxation, provide opportunities for rest and self-care, and creating a calming and supportive space where my clients can feel free to talk, ask questions, and learn about their unique parenting style. Feeding my clients, supporting them in shifting their mindsets to set themselves up for success, helping them to gain insight and learn to trust in their own parenting intuition, guiding them in activities designed to facilitate the processing of their experiences, and teaching them self-care practices to maximize the peace and joy they find in this sacred time are some of my favorite parts of this vocation.

Care philosophy

Through Upon Arrival, I take a worldly, natural approach to childbirth and the postpartum period to help my clients slow down and focus on the holistic and intuitive aspects of maternal care. I specialize in "mothering the new mother" by providing healing meals, emotional wellness & self care offerings, & calming support to gently guide her through the life-changing experience of early postpartum.

From an early age taking care of young children and being directly involved with supporting families has always been around Marcia. Marcia proves a calming and loving experience through and through. When I was having anxiety about being a new mom she was there to full support me . When we were in the delivery room she was able to speak to for me to the doctors and get exactly the experience I wanted. She set up the birthing space sp that my son came into this world with the most positive energy and surrounded by love. She talked me through some really intense contractions where I didnt think I would be able to continue but with Marcia support of her talking me through it. I highly recommend marcia as your doula ypu and your baby through out your pregnancy will feel and be supported in everyway

A postpartum doula in Newton, MA is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Newton, MA offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Newton, MA can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Newton, MA. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Newton, MA, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Newton, MA is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Newton, MA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
