I did my training though ToLabor and have been attending births in homes, the birth center, and at hospitals as a doula since 2017. It never gets old. I offer one in person prenatal meeting. At this meeting I want to get to know you and your partner and hear the stories and perceptions you have surrounding birth. We will go over your birth plan and I will learn how to best support you as an individual. I am on call from 38-42weeks. Once at your birth I support you via, natural pain management, positioning, reminders of what you already know but may not be able to call to mind, encouragement of you and your partner, ect. I stay with you until a few hours after your baby is born to help you settle in and cozy up. I check in once after the birth for a processing session where I want to hear your birth story from your perspective, usually this is a sweet time of community. I will also help you trouble shoot any basic issues or direct you to a specialist.

Care philosophy

I truly believe in seeing women empowered to have a beautiful physiological birth where they are autonomous and still fully supported. I offer myself to nurture and support you in the wild flow that is the birthing process.

I am a DONA certified birth doula working on certification. I am also a psychotherapist with advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International (PSI). I'm very passionate about supporting and empowering the birthing person and their loved ones in the pregnancy and birth experience. I believe its importance if you are considering a birth doula for your pregnancy it is never too early to do your due diligence and start your search and explore your options. I like to enter a partnership for doula service in the second trimester. I engage in prenatal visits for support and to provide pregnancy and childbirth education. Leading up to your due date I make myself available to you 24/7 via phone, text, or email and have a 24-hour response time window. I provide continuous laboring support. As well as 30 minutes of the golden hour post-delivery of your baby to assist and support as needed. Following delivery, after you have settled at home, within the first 2 weeks of bringing baby home I provide one hour and a half postpartum visit to follow up on mental health and provide assistance in any way you need.

Care philosophy

The body knows more before the mind. It's vital to have a birth experience where the birthing person feels empowered and confident in their abilities to engage in labor and delivery of the baby. The mind enters a partnership with the body. As the birth doula I want to help you get to a level of empowerment, knowledge, and confidence in yourself to actively engage in hard things.

Mary Miller is a doula that is committed to being well trained and educated to provide elite evidence based birth support than could enhance better birth outcome to who ever she servers. There have been many doulas that reach out for advice but I never see them even try to move forward or think its not important to complete continuous education. Mary is the complete opposite and has worked hard, taken all advice, and made it unique to her self. She does not just copy and paste or do blindly. Mary Miller is the FIRST doula I refer when I cannot service a client or am over loaded. So happy she is taking the journey. We need her! #TeamDOULAMary! <3 lol

I am a Christian, mom of 3, wife, hobby farmer, lover of the outdoors and music! I was previously a peer counselor for a crisis pregnancy center and have always loved the support, love, education that comes with having new life enter the world. I am a big advocate of education and discovering options, truth, and empowerment through being in control of your own body. Choosing what is best for you and your baby! I have supported all birth options including home birth, water birth, inductions, caesarians, and holistic birth center births. I am especially interested in the body mechanics of labor, as my husband is a chiropractor, and am furthering my education in this area.

Care philosophy

You can teach anyone skills and techniques, but you can't teach how to love and the genuine heart behind it!

This was our first baby, and Nicole was so supportive and helpful not only during labor, but especially during my pregnancy as well. She was so knowledgable and helpful in giving advice and sharing resources any time I had questions or was trying to make decisions. I loved that she always respected and supported our wishes and decisions. I was confident that she understood our “birth plan”, supported my desire for a natural, unmedicated birth free of any interventions, and would be an advocate for us, however things ended up going. This gave me such a feeling of complete safety and trust with her. Her support during pregnancy helped to prepare both my husband and I so much. By the end of my pregnancy, I felt so much more confident, informed about and excited for labor. And I believe all of this played such a huge part in how our labor ended up going. I went into it informed, empowered and without fear.

During labor, Nicole was there for my husband just as much as she was for me. She helped him help and support me. I had back labor the whole time, and Nicole showed him how to apply counter pressure and hip squeeze. This made a world of difference coping through contractions. We had such a beautiful, positive experience, and I can’t imagine having done any of it without Nicole by our side. Can’t wait to have her there for baby #2!

I have always been passionate about empowering others and all things babies and pregnancy. It’s amazing to me how God wove together a baby in its mothers womb and how He breathes life into every cell and moment shared. Since studying Doula work I have come to also be passionate about our bodies and how we should take care and love ourselves. There is so much more to labor than just medicine and hospitals.

Care philosophy

Emma is passionate about unleashing your potential to experience the labor you’ve dreamed about through informational, emotional, physical, and spiritual support in the greater Louisville area.

I hired Emma as my doula when I was just 12 weeks pregnant and throughout my pregnancy got to know her as a friend. When I had questions emma was always willing to take the time to answer & throughout pregnancy when I outreached emma for advice, conversation or prayer when I was nervous she was always there to support me. When it was my time to give birth I knew I could rely on emma to be a confidante & listen to everything I was thinking or wanting. She took everything I said and all my concerns whether big or small seriously & did everything she could to help. She kept me calm when I would get nervous & she made me feel comfortable. She was skilled in knowing counter pressure and other pain management skills & she provided essential oils (at my request) to create a calming environment and topically to help progress labor. She always asked me how I was doing and was there to truly do anything I needed while in labor. She stayed after my baby was born and took pictures and helped document those sweet moments and made sure I had everything I needed before leaving. I truly would recommend emma to anyone who is pregnant. If you are wanting someone who can help you physically while in labor and spiritually and mentally pre-labor & postpartum, emma is your girl.

I am a wife and mother of five wonderful children. I initially got my start in nutrition, but that quickly morphed into the care of women and mothers. My practice focuses on the whole family. I've been involved in the health and healing of the family for over 10 years now, in many different capacities. I provide coaching both physical and virtual. I provide meal prep, meal planning, juices, seamoss, labor and delivery, postpartum, and prenatal support. As well as family and sibling support.

Care philosophy

As a certified Holistic Nutritionist and Doula, I believe in whole body healing. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience, and as such we have to take care of our physical bodies to truly enjoy the life we are experiencing. Pregnancy and child birth is not an illness nor is it a medical condition that needs extensive medical treatment. Our bodies are designed for this.

I began my path as a doula in 2021. Prior to my doula journey, I taught college English and Humanities courses. Although I don’t write or grade essays these days, I find far greater enjoyment in helping my clients write and live out their birth stories. I have been trained as a doula through DONA International and devour every book, podcast, and documentary I can find about birth.

Care philosophy

My philosophy is to weave myself into your “village” before, during, and after your birth. Throughout our meetings, I want you and your partner to feel completely comfortable with me and supported by me. By implementing age-old birthing wisdom and newer evidence-based practices, we will be able to give you the birth you deserve and dream of.

I picked Elaine as my doula when I was only 7 weeks pregnant. I knew going into this pregnancy that I wanted to have a VBAC following my first traumatic birth experience. I met with a few different doulas, but Elaine immediately stood out because she talked to me like I was her friend. I could tell she would be someone I could trust and feel comfortable enough with to have as support during labor.

While I did not have a successful VBAC, my birth was still nothing short of successful and Elaine doesn’t let me forget it. When you a hire a doula, it is not just for you. Secondary birth trauma is real and I knew this time I wanted to have someone my husband could trust in the room too. Elaine was support for my whole family before, during, and after labor. Things were great and then things got scary fast. Elaine answered my questions, held my hand, hugged my mom while she cried, reassured my husband, and affirmed me and my choices all at the same time. She was the rock we all needed and she was somehow able to provide everything to all of us at once. There are not enough words to sum up how thankful we are for her. If you are thinking about hiring a doula, you can not go wrong with her.

I provide assistance from the moment you find you’re pregnant or anytime before birth, for my birth doula package. For breastfeeding/chestfeeding packages, I can begin in the third trimester, or whenever you need my services. With the belly binding packages, those begin in the postpartum period, before you reach 12wks postpartum. I assist with navigating the ins and outs of pregnancy, of finding evidence-based information to help you make informed decisions, help with pain management and fear-reduction. For postpartum care, I offer breastfeeding/chestfeeding counseling and assistance. I offer postpartum belly binding, which is a part of the “closing of the bones” ceremony that helps postpartum bodies and internal organs return to their pre-pregnancy places.

Care philosophy

Every birther has the right to birth their way, without judgement or coercion. Birth isn’t to be controlled, it’s to be experienced. It’s a privilege for your care team to support you, not their right. My job is to honor you and your wishes. To support you in your journey, not to manipulate your choices to fit mine or those attending.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Louisville, KY.

You can browse through the available doulas in Louisville, KY and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Louisville, KY in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Louisville, KY. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Louisville, KY doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a doula in Louisville, KY is $867, but typically ranges from $658 to $1,075. These costs are based on a representative group of 9 doulas surveyed by Meela in the Louisville area. The average cost of a doula in Louisville, KY is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of Kentucky, which is $713.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Louisville, KY is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Louisville, KY, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Louisville, KY: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Louisville, KY, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Louisville, KY can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Louisville, KY does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Louisville, KY will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Louisville, KY can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Louisville, KY; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
