I support families in all stages of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I have various services that I offer for each stage. My prenatal/birth package includes monthly prenatals from the time you hire me until the birth, on call at 37 weeks until you give birth, labor support at your home and/or hospital and one postpartum home visit. My postpartum services are booked by the hour (3 hour minimum). I also offer overnight infant care (10 hours).

Care philosophy

I love mothering the mother (or birth parent). I believe that when we take care of mamas we set them up to best take care of their babies and that makes a better next generation and overall society. I believe that parents are more than capable of making all the choices that need to be made during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I want to support parents through this journey into parenthood.

Amy was so helpful in answering all my questions and providing resources. She is a skilled space holder and direct when communicating with other providers. I so appreciated having her support before, during and after birth.

I provide assistance from the moment you find you’re pregnant or anytime before birth, for my birth doula package. For breastfeeding/chestfeeding packages, I can begin in the third trimester, or whenever you need my services. With the belly binding packages, those begin in the postpartum period, before you reach 12wks postpartum. I assist with navigating the ins and outs of pregnancy, of finding evidence-based information to help you make informed decisions, help with pain management and fear-reduction. For postpartum care, I offer breastfeeding/chestfeeding counseling and assistance. I offer postpartum belly binding, which is a part of the “closing of the bones” ceremony that helps postpartum bodies and internal organs return to their pre-pregnancy places.

Care philosophy

Every birther has the right to birth their way, without judgement or coercion. Birth isn’t to be controlled, it’s to be experienced. It’s a privilege for your care team to support you, not their right. My job is to honor you and your wishes. To support you in your journey, not to manipulate your choices to fit mine or those attending.

I am a Christian, mom of 3, wife, hobby farmer, lover of the outdoors and music! I was previously a peer counselor for a crisis pregnancy center and have always loved the support, love, education that comes with having new life enter the world. I am a big advocate of education and discovering options, truth, and empowerment through being in control of your own body. Choosing what is best for you and your baby! I have supported all birth options including home birth, water birth, inductions, caesarians, and holistic birth center births. I am especially interested in the body mechanics of labor, as my husband is a chiropractor, and am furthering my education in this area.

Care philosophy

You can teach anyone skills and techniques, but you can't teach how to love and the genuine heart behind it!

This was our first baby, and Nicole was so supportive and helpful not only during labor, but especially during my pregnancy as well. She was so knowledgable and helpful in giving advice and sharing resources any time I had questions or was trying to make decisions. I loved that she always respected and supported our wishes and decisions. I was confident that she understood our “birth plan”, supported my desire for a natural, unmedicated birth free of any interventions, and would be an advocate for us, however things ended up going. This gave me such a feeling of complete safety and trust with her. Her support during pregnancy helped to prepare both my husband and I so much. By the end of my pregnancy, I felt so much more confident, informed about and excited for labor. And I believe all of this played such a huge part in how our labor ended up going. I went into it informed, empowered and without fear.

During labor, Nicole was there for my husband just as much as she was for me. She helped him help and support me. I had back labor the whole time, and Nicole showed him how to apply counter pressure and hip squeeze. This made a world of difference coping through contractions. We had such a beautiful, positive experience, and I can’t imagine having done any of it without Nicole by our side. Can’t wait to have her there for baby #2!

I began my path as a doula in 2022. Prior to my doula journey, I taught college English and Humanities courses. Although I don’t write or grade essays these days, I find far greater enjoyment in helping my clients write and live out their birth stories. I have been trained as a doula through DONA International and devour every book, podcast, and documentary I can find about birth.

Care philosophy

My philosophy is to weave myself into your “village” before, during, and after your birth. Throughout our meetings, I want you and your partner to feel completely comfortable with me and supported by me. By implementing age-old birthing wisdom and newer evidence-based practices, we will be able to give you the birth you deserve and dream of.

I picked Elaine as my doula when I was only 7 weeks pregnant. I knew going into this pregnancy that I wanted to have a VBAC following my first traumatic birth experience. I met with a few different doulas, but Elaine immediately stood out because she talked to me like I was her friend. I could tell she would be someone I could trust and feel comfortable enough with to have as support during labor.

While I did not have a successful VBAC, my birth was still nothing short of successful and Elaine doesn’t let me forget it. When you a hire a doula, it is not just for you. Secondary birth trauma is real and I knew this time I wanted to have someone my husband could trust in the room too. Elaine was support for my whole family before, during, and after labor. Things were great and then things got scary fast. Elaine answered my questions, held my hand, hugged my mom while she cried, reassured my husband, and affirmed me and my choices all at the same time. She was the rock we all needed and she was somehow able to provide everything to all of us at once. There are not enough words to sum up how thankful we are for her. If you are thinking about hiring a doula, you can not go wrong with her.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

When hiring a birth doula in Georgetown, KY, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Georgetown, KY: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Georgetown, KY, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Georgetown, KY can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Georgetown, KY does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Georgetown, KY will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Georgetown, KY can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Georgetown, KY; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
