Jordan M. | Postpartum Doula in Portland, OR

Bun and Bundle

    Practice overview

I've been a nanny for ten years now, and along the way I fell in love with working in the homes of families, and connecting with them and learning how to best support them. Becoming a postpartum doula felt like a really natural next step, and after becoming certified and working with families in a new way, I truly believe I have found my passion. I'm currently transitioning out of nannying and into doula work, but later on in 2023 I will have more open availability as a doula.

I enjoy working with families who need extra rest, or families who are looking for guidance and reassurance when it comes to soothing, breastfeeding, bathing etc. I also love helping out with household duties or simply being an unbiased listener.

I also work with families who's particular struggle lies with sleep and I'm trained to help families navigate infant sleep concerns. I like to look at the family as a whole to help get everyone as much sleep as possible.

    Care philosophy

I truly believe that the families I work with are capable of amazing things, and just may need a bit of help along the way. I love to help families learn to trust their instincts and find their power as parents. Sometimes that means helping them get some well-deserved rest, and sometimes that means helping with gentle guidance through techniques that will help boost their parenting confidence.

Jordan came into our lives when we had a newborn and a toddler, and I was struggling with feeling like a person again after a difficult delivery. She expertly supported our kiddos, was a kind and wonderful friend to me, and pivoted without hesitation into the pandemic to be part of our pod. Her support, expertise and friendship have been indispensable and I don’t know how we would have survived without it.

Jordan has worked with our family for nearly 5 years, starting when our older child had just turned one. Jordan was a source of wisdom and support through my second pregnancy and cared for our older child overnight when I went into labor. Our second child was born in the first, early months of the pandemic which turned our postpartum life into an especially intense and overwhelming period. I’ve valued Jordan immensely as a source of nonjudgmental support as a parent.

Jordan is one of those unique people who has a depth of knowledge and experience but no ego to go with it. Because Jordan is so familiar with the realities of parenting, she honestly understands that one size does not and cannot fit all, and is adept at weaving together evidence-based approaches with the individual complexity of a family’s ecosystem. She’s both well-studied and emotionally intelligent which makes her an excellent and empathetic problem-solver.

Jordan is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, but it’s not just what she knows – it’s who and how she is as a person that makes her so wonderful to work with. Jordan is kind, patient, and intentional in her work. She is thoughtful and observant and readily anticipates others’ needs. She’s a calm, clear communicator and manages to stay present with people even under stress. Jordan has been a steadfast and positive thread through most of our parenting journey, and we’d recommend her without hesitation to anyone who is looking for support in theirs.

Jordan entered the fray of our family in the early days of my postpartum period with our first child – a time when literally everything felt like a struggle. I was averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night and nursing was fraught with concerns around my baby’s slow weight gain. From the moment Jordan walked into our home, I was struck by her calm, confident, and compassionate demeanor. She was someone I could sit with as I breastfed my son and share my feelings about motherhood without reservation, and Jordan knew just what to say, or not say, to provide the emotional support I needed. She fit perfectly into our homelife, intuiting whether we needed support or privacy at a given moment.

In addition to the support she provided directly to me as a new mother, Jordan also cared for my son brilliantly. She could soothe him like a champion and was endlessly patient and nurturing toward him. I could watch Jordan with my son and feel completely at peace with the care she provided him.

Jordan is a truly special person that I feel so lucky to have had providing me and my family with postpartum support. She personifies kindness, wisdom, calmness, and compassion. I will forever be grateful to her for all she did for me and my family!
