My first baby was a high needs newborn who helped me find my passion for baby wearing, navigating the challenges of breastfeeding, alternative approaches to newborn care such as bodywork and cransioscacral therapy. She would scream all day long and I made it my mission to learn everything I possibly could during that stage of our lives. It was a fragile period for me as I struggled recovering physically and emotionally from giving birth with a tiny newborn who required everything I had to give plus a little more. She also helped me find my passion for guiding and empowering women through their motherhood journey so that they could find the knowledge they already have within them on what their family needs or how to find it..

Care philosophy

My goal as a birth and postpartum doula is to help my clients feel empowered, informed, and supported throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey.

I have been a Birth Doula for 9 years, attending 270+ births. I started birth work after the birth of my triplets in 2011. They ignited a fire in me to help families have positive birth experiences. I love natural birth and community birth but it is just as important to support families choosing or needing more medical options. I have a passion for families expecting multiples, VBAC parents and LGBTQ+ families. I have also been teaching HypnoBirthing with The Birth Education Center since 2013.

Care philosophy

My goal as a Doula is to help families turn on their inner advocate. To help connect to evidence based information and tools to create a positive experience. I love learning what comfort measures work best for each family.

Ashley trusts birth, trusts the people who give birth, and knows how to create an environment to let birth happen with out trauma.

My first job is mother. I have three young children who are my pride and joy. They encourage me everyday to be a better person and I realize that our relationship begins forming during pregnancy. I became a doula after I saw mothers and babies being separated in hospitals in the early days of the pandemic. I couldn't fathom a greater disservice to families and I wanted to try to help. Since then though, I have realized that it is not my job to "save" women. I am here to give you a glimpse into what the perinatal year can be when you take back the power and control of your birth. I'll stand by you, providing you with unwavering support, as you work towards a blissful experience that you and your baby earn together. I am willing to offer many different types of care, including birth support, postpartum care, virtual connection, breastfeeding and childbirth education, parenting support and friendship. I'm a believer of healing trauma and mending relationships and will help you to navigate these complicated human emotions. It has surprised me how many different pieces of our past can arise during pregnancy and birth and I love for my families to be ready to connect those ties. The perinatal year is a very spiritual experience, and I thank God that I get to do this glorious work.

Care philosophy

My wish for a woman in her perinatal year would be to recognize that the mother-baby connection is the center of it all. Doctor's, midwives, and doulas, are not the hero's of your story. Our society has severely damaged many women's view of birth and the resulting trauma runs through all of our communities. Women deserve better than what they are being offered.

I’ve worked in childcare for over a decade, specializing in infant and toddler care. I’ve worked in daycares, preschools, as a private nanny and even in an award winning Montessori school. None of that compares to how much I love my work as a doula though. While childcare was and always will be a passion of mine, I’ve found my true calling is supporting birthing parents and their newborns. It’s such an honor getting to facilitate bonding throughout pregnancy, the birthing process and postpartum. I really love getting to work with families through their journey so I can be the rock that offering evidence based support, helping teach your partner support you during your birth so you get double the comfort and they get to be involved as possible, and of course learning how to be a parent. It’s so magical getting to help families learn how to care for their newborn or if they are very experienced helping with overnights so everyone can get good rest to be their best selves the next day. We are determined to serve parents no matter what their choices or situation is. I have supported single mothers by choice, women recovering from domestic violence, teen mothers, bereavement cases, and everything inbetween. I am always willing to learn more to support your needs as well. Continuing education is vital to my practice. Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope I get the opportunity to serve your family.

Care philosophy

Caring for parents before, during and after birth is so important. You’ve gone through enormous changes, and you deserve someone to hold your hand through it. I love cooking, light cleaning (laundry, dishes, tidying up, etc) and supporting overnight. Sleep is essential for our health, let me help you get the rest you deserve, and wake up to all the tasks you need done just the way you want it.

Bleu is in a fun phase of life that includes wedding planning, meal prepping, and preparing to start her own journey to motherhood. She believes that home is where the heart is, and owns a plethora of bathrobes. Bleu loves reading, making coffee, cooking, film photography, and her cat! She spends all of her non-doula time being a homemaker, just like her grandmother. Bleu was raised in a community that valued motherhood, homemaking, and supporting new parents. Being brought up by her grandmother led her in becoming a caregiver early on in life, anything her grandmother did to nurture, she turned around and provided the same care. She and her grandmother bond now over how much things like car seat standards have progressed, the difference in cloth diapers, and they make sure to call each other daily. She really values teaching parents how to care for their new addition to the family, and will show up for you in a variety of ways. Some of her favorite teaching moments have been introducing a bottle/how to pace feed, teaching how to baby wear, and giving resources on local movement classes.

Care philosophy

Bleu is a strong advocate for trauma informed care, and applies those principles to all of her work. Bleu is equipped with knowledge on transitioning home from nicu stays, supporting families with neurodivergent children, and supporting families with multiples. Bleu believes that every parent deserves the confidence that they are taking care of their newborn (or big kids) in the way that is best.

I believe our bodies instinctively know how to handle pregnancy, labor, and birth. During this time, we should learn to love and respect this amazing process. I believe that pregnancy and birth are natural processes in a woman’s life. This journey should not be feared. I believe that labor and birth is a beautiful and sacred life-changing events. As your doula, I have the honor to support you throughout this journey, encourage you and remind you of your strength and power, and hold space for you. I believe in a woman’s confidence and ability to birth. I also believe that this confidence can be shattered by those that are in her circle. Those around her can either influence it for the better or hinder it if they do not trust the process. I believe there are many ways to birth, and there is no wrong way to birth! You must find what is right for you. I believe a woman should feel comfortable and safe during her labor and birth. She should feel supported. As your doula, I will support your choice whether it is to labor at home, in a hospital, or at a birth center. I will honor and respect your family beliefs, preferences, communication styles, and comfort techniques, this allows me to tailor my support to fit your individual needs and desires. I believe every woman should be an active participant in her labor and birth experience. I believe in informed consent- giving you evidence and information about the risks and benefits of every procedure so that you can make the best decision for yourself and your baby. As your doula, I will help you gather the knowledge and resources to be better informed throughout your journey to conceive, and your pregnancy and childbirth. I will encourage you and I will remind you of your goals and values. It is my hope and dreams that you feel supported throughout your pregnancy, childbirth & beyond.

Care philosophy

I aim to provide compassionate support and knowledge to growing families, contribute to positive birthing experiences, and respect & honor the rights of the birthing person.

Nessa was inspired to pursue Doula work after their grandmother's passing in 2020, as well as the birth of their baby brother in 2010 when they were 15 years old. Having a grandmother who was a delivery nurse for 40 years, as well as witnessing their mother’s pregnancy at a young age inspired a life of passion for learning about the birthing process. They are currently a student with Portland Doula love and attended their DONA international workshop in October 2022. In addition to this, they are presently enrolled in BADT's 12-week postpartum doula training, and pursuing certification. Before this they worked in a wide variety of fields, getting their degree in graphic design and illustration in 2018, and eventually working in early childhood education with toddlers and infants. In addition to pursuing doula work, they are interested in becoming peer support specialist certified and serving birthing people with trauma or substance use disorders. In their spare time, you can find Nessa spending time with all of their pets (two cats, a dog, a large catfish, and a bearded dragon!), crocheting, painting, playing D&D with their two nesting partners, or streaming Nintendo games on twitch.

Care philosophy

As a non-binary, and polyamorous individual Nessa believes all birthing people deserve a judgment-free and inclusive space to bring their child into the world. They believe in the power of a comforting and gentle touch, as well as creating the perfect relaxing ambiance. They have the desire to learn hypnosis and have been practicing mindfulness techniques in their own life for 2 years.

My own personal first childbirth experience was full of trauma and abuse of power, I wasn't listened to or heard. I was scared after feeling prepared and confident going into labor. After my second birth, I realized what a difference it made having safe, reassuring and experienced support on my side. It made such an amazing difference and fueled my passion for supporting birthing people. Everyone deserves support, and to be seen and heard and respected during childbirth. It is an innate human right that no one has the power to take away from you. I chose DTI (Doula Trainings International) as my doula certifying body because their programs is one of the most comprehensive and inclusive trainings. I am a birth nerd and daily my goal is to learn at least two new things about birth, pregnancy, birth support, reproductive justice and anything related in order to best be able to serve my clients. My philosophy surrounding pregnancy, birth and beyond is that every person and family is unique, comes from different backgrounds, different cultures and should be able to make the decisions that suit them best based on their needs without judgment from others. Your vision becomes my vision while I am supporting you and I will do everything in my power to help facilitate that for you along the way. Mental health and nutrition support are two things I am passionate about during the postpartum period, and I love helping new parents navigate their new life with baby.

Care philosophy

Every birthing person has the right to a safe birth where they are seen and heard. My passion is to provide you emotional and physical support through your labor and delivery, and to provide education and information throughout pregnancy to ensure you are confident and trust that your body can do this. Because you can! Raising children takes a village, having support makes a difference.

Starting off as a nursing student then transitioning into birth work as a midwifery assistant, I quickly fell in love with doula care. I am now a birth and postpartum doula and loving every second. Families can expect to have my full support as they navigate sleepless nights, cluster feeding, and any hurdles that come their way in the first few weeks of motherhood.

Care philosophy

I support families by providing emotional, informational, and physical support as they become parents for the first time. It is my greatest joy to be a new mommy mentor and link arms with new parents as they discover their parenting styles, grow, and heal in the fourth trimester.

I started my journey as a doula in early 2021 with Birthing Advocacy Doulas’ full-spectrum doula training. I provide support during the time leading up to your baby’s arrival, as well as the crucial first few months with your little one. I have experience with multiples and have nannied two sets of infant twins (double the fun!). As a member of the LGBT community, I feel compelled to help LGBT families and other marginalized parents access doula services. I studied history at the University of Oregon and this has informed my passion for helping historically oppressed groups. Through my work as a doula, it is essential to me that I help families feel informed and empowered to make their own decisions throughout this exciting transitional period. I strive to provide non-judgemental, individualized, and culturally relevant care. The most important thing to me is that you feel comfortable, confident, and empowered during this journey. I have seen first-hand how some medical providers mistreat marginalized people. Prenatal and neonatal care often fails LGBT people, fat people, disabled people, and people of color - I want to change that by honoring all identities and helping you advocate for yourself.

Care philosophy

Every person should feel empowered to make choices about their own body and family. Through my work as a doula, it is essential to me that I help my clients feel informed and empowered to make their own decisions throughout this exciting transitional period. My journey as a birth worker all started when I became pregnant with my son Sage. My husband and I were so thrilled at the thought of becoming parents. I decided fairly quickly that I wanted to have a homebirth. It was such a spiritual experience. I didn’t know the strength and endurance I had in me to birth my son. Just knowing what power every single person possesses in bringing their baby's earthside was so profound and magical to me. I soon right after became obsessed with everything that had to do with womb wellness, fertility, pregnancy, birth, and herbal support. I knew right away that I wanted to utilize my compassion and energies on supporting parents in every way I could, especially in the postpartum period. I joined a labor doula workshop at Birthingway College of Midwifery in the summer of 2019 and the Doulas of Color Business Workshop beginning of 2020 to learn more. Shortly after joining, I decided to start my own practice and that is when Hózhó Doula Care was born. I was born and raised in Tulsa, Ok, and have lived in Portland for the past 9 years with my husband, my son Sage, and 2 cats, Bev and Carol. I am a Diné adszáán (Navajo woman) who is strongly passionate about herbal support, anything wellness, reproductive health, and justice. I come from a strong lineage of Diné who have passed down to me what it is to be an Indigenous person in this modern world we live in now and how balance is key to life.

Care philosophy

My approach is a fusion of Holistic, Spiritual, and with Evidence-Based Information Birth is 100% spiritual and physiological. You are bringing another life through from a spiritual portal, you and your baby work together to do this. That alone is such a transcendent interconnected journey. Not one birth is the same, each is different and unique, your story is yours and yours alone.

As a mom of three, a birth doula, and childbirth educator, here is what I know: You want Ali on your birth team.
Even if you read all of the books in preparation or had the most perfect birth experience – becoming a parent is a challenging rite of passage for all of us. It’s impossible to know what you will need most in your postpartum experience until you are holding baby in your arms and living the reality that you were only dreaming and guessing about before. Fun plot twist? Those needs can change multiple times a day in those first few weeks.
Ali’s compassion, wisdom, and leadership are exactly what every new parent needs in their life. Ali shows up with a wholehearted and authentic passion for supporting families in this stage of life – fueled by her own personal motherhood journey and her commitment to learn the art and science behind quality postpartum doula work.
I know that if you add Ali to your birth team, you will experience what I have: a friend that listens in a way that makes you feel fully seen and validated, a generous sharing of confidence and grit that will inspire you to persevere in the face of challenge, and if the moment calls for it a smile and laugh that will make you remember that you haven’t always been a sleep-deprived new parent trying to figure out how to make it through the day.
Ali is equal parts inspiration and encouragement and generously provides the exact kind of energy women need as they transition into motherhood.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Gresham, OR.

You can browse through the available doulas in Gresham, OR and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Gresham, OR in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Gresham, OR. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Gresham, OR doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, you can expect the average cost of a doula in Gresham, OR to be $992, which is the average cost of a doula in the state of Oregon. The cost of a doula in Gresham, OR can range from $827 to $1,158. These costs are based on a representative group of 283 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of Oregon. The average cost of a doula in Oregon is about the same as the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Gresham, OR, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Gresham, OR: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Gresham, OR, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Gresham, OR can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Gresham, OR does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Gresham, OR will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Gresham, OR can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Gresham, OR; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
