Claire was our doula for the birth of our baby and we are so thankful for her guidance, support and friendship. She is so warm, friendly and easy to be around which was one of the most important things we considered when picking a doula. Claire offered her support throughout our whole pregnancy. We really appreciated the informational emails that were sent weekly. She was with us in the hospital for about 24 hours and was a true support and comfort. Claire had wonderful recommendations for pain management and stretching throughout the labor process and really helped us turn our hospital room into a place that felt like home. We love Claire and are so thankful we found her.

Growing up in a big family, I saw birth firsthand and grew to love it, in all its forms. Now as a mother myself, I’ve learned the importance of advocating for oneself to find the birth plan that works for you. I began my education in the birth world a year ago, and have served families in Colorado and Washington. I serve families in hospitals, birth centers and at home. I’ve also assisted in the birth classes offered at Whatcom Pregnancy Clinic, educating women and their partners on the tools available to ease and enhance their labor and birth. I am currently taking new clients through the new year. Hope to hear from you soon!

Care philosophy

I strive to assist mothers in their journey through pregnancy and birth, with an evidence based approach. It is my belief that birth should be centered around the mother’s voice, and that her support team is there to lift her where she needs and step back when she asks. In every birth I’ve been to I’ve learned from the strength that is found in birth.

Rebekah was AMAZING!!! I honestly can’t say enough good things. I hired her super short notice like literally 2 weeks before I gave birth and she was able to make it work still. She was so great throughout my entire labor. She stayed with me at the hospital (and stayed awake to comfort me even if I was dozing off) the entire labor. She did counter pressure. She talked me through everything. She was an advocate to the hospital staff for me. She came over to my house a few days after giving birth and brought us some delicious homemade soup and rice. She was so caring, non judgmental, and easy going. I could keep going on and on about how great she was but bottom line is I don’t know how I would have made it through with out her. HIGHLY recommend!

Nurturing mindful and empowering birth experiences for holistically-minded families in Colorado and beyond

Care philosophy

I believe that birth is natural, normal and that our bodies are primed for it. It's a right of passage and a sacred time to tune into the body! That being said, birth is unpredictable and I aim to educate my clients about the numerous possibilities that could take place. My primary goal is to reduce fear and create safe, peaceful environments for the transition from womb to world.

My husband and I enlisted Ali’s services for the birth of our second daughter after our previous doula moved out of state.
Ali is very personable and knowledgeable. The services she provides are the perfect mix of scientifically based information and holistic medicine. Her Reiki and Reflexology treatment during my pregnancy were an amazing treat.
During my delivery she was essential in keeping my husband and I calm and grounded. Delivering during a pandemic meant I could not have the same amount of people as my first delivery, I had 5 (!) support people the first time around, and Ali made it feel like I had the expect same level of support.
Ali met us at the hospital right as my contractions began intensifying after my induction. She helped me breath through the first and second stages of labor, rubbing my lower back, and reminding me to relax my face.
Her calm demeanor and expertise are a must in any doula, plus her lactation cookies were delicious!
    15/10 would recommend.

11 reviews • 200 families supported • 10 years experience

Dakota is a Certified Birth Doula, Full-Spectrum Doula (birth, postpartum, miscarriage, termination and loss), Placenta Encapsulation Specialist and Ceremonialist living in Lyons, Colorado. She is also a student midwife who occasionally assists a home-birth midwife in the Boulder area and provides an assortment of other offerings for the childbearing continuum like Childbirth Education, Belly Binding, Council Circles and Mother/Parent Roasting, etc. Avidly studying birth since 2010, Dakota has always known that this was her “calling”. Through her years of doula and midwifery training in Bali, North Carolina, Vermont and Colorado, she deeply understands the importance of families feeling educated and empowered during their birthing experience and the impact that can have on the newborn child’s life, the family unit as a whole and the wider community. Dakota fiercely advocates for her clients in all birth settings and holds a larger vision of birth as a transformative Rite of Passage. She is passionate about holding space for clients who are interested in bringing more intention and sacredness to their birthing journey through a variety of ceremonial offerings (mother/parent honoring ceremonies, yoni steaming and sealing ceremonies, to list just a few). Dakota is also one of the founding members of The Mother’s Center in Boulder (www.themotherscenter.org). There, she holds donation-based council circles for pregnant and postpartum people in the community, as well as an assortment of other offerings like Kirtan (devotional chanting), meditation, community potlucks and many different types of workshops and ceremonies. When she is not at a birth or holding space at The Mother’s Center, you can find Dakota soaking in natural hot springs around the state, dancing the 5-Rhythms, sitting in women’s circles and probably using way too much ghee when cooking!

Care philosophy

"Matrescence" (according to anthropologist Dana Rafael) is the birth of a Mother/Parent. The Rite of Passage. It is with love and presence that I hold your hand during this Sacred Transition. And I honor your personal story. Each transition into parenthood is unique. Whatever the outcome of your pregnancy, I am here with you. I will advocate for and support *your* choice and *your* intuition.

I am certified as a birth doula, a postpartum doula, a placenta encapsulation specialist, and a childbirth educator. One of my birth certifications is specialized as a Birth and Bereavement Doula. A postpartum doula in Fort Collins, CO is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Fort Collins, CO offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Fort Collins, CO can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Fort Collins, CO. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Fort Collins, CO, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Fort Collins, CO is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Fort Collins, CO: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
