Growing up in a big family, I saw birth firsthand and grew to love it, in all its forms. Now as a mother myself, I’ve learned the importance of advocating for oneself to find the birth plan that works for you. I began my education in the birth world a year ago, and have served families in Colorado and Washington. I serve families in hospitals, birth centers and at home. I’ve also assisted in the birth classes offered at Whatcom Pregnancy Clinic, educating women and their partners on the tools available to ease and enhance their labor and birth. I am currently taking new clients through the new year. Hope to hear from you soon!

Care philosophy

I strive to assist mothers in their journey through pregnancy and birth, with an evidence based approach. It is my belief that birth should be centered around the mother’s voice, and that her support team is there to lift her where she needs and step back when she asks. In every birth I’ve been to I’ve learned from the strength that is found in birth.

Rebekah was AMAZING!!! I honestly can’t say enough good things. I hired her super short notice like literally 2 weeks before I gave birth and she was able to make it work still. She was so great throughout my entire labor. She stayed with me at the hospital (and stayed awake to comfort me even if I was dozing off) the entire labor. She did counter pressure. She talked me through everything. She was an advocate to the hospital staff for me. She came over to my house a few days after giving birth and brought us some delicious homemade soup and rice. She was so caring, non judgmental, and easy going. I could keep going on and on about how great she was but bottom line is I don’t know how I would have made it through with out her. HIGHLY recommend!

To put it bluntly, I love babies! I am fascinated by the innate, primitive, and beautiful ability of our bodies to create new life. My intention is to support you in having the most empowering, transformative, and safe birthing experience as possible. We are not meant to birth alone. As human beings bringing new human beings into the world, it is pivotal to feel affirmed and validated during our most vulnerable and authentic moments. I want you to look back on your birth experience and feel triumphant! No matter what you’ve been through in the past, or what you are envisioning this time around, I am here to 100% support your goals and help them come to fruition. I bring knowledge, experience, and skills to this position, but more importantly, I bring Empathy, Compassion, and Presence.

Care philosophy

What best describes Yogi Doula's philosophy is the word Sakti, which is Sanskrit for “The Divine Feminine”- meaning the moment when you embody your highest, purest form of intelligence and intuition. This transformative moment can happen during childbirth when you’re surrounded by unconditional support!

Marissa is such a kind person with a gentle soul. I really leaned on her for her expansive knowledge and the never ending comfort she provided. I came to the idea of a doula in the home stretch of my pregnancy- about 7/8 months in. Even with me feeling like I was late in the doula game, Marissa assured me that I was not. That’s what I really needed in my pregnancy, comfort and reassurance. There was a lot I was frightened of and Marissa took my hand (and my foot at one point haha 💕) and guided me through each moment I needed it. If I ever become pregnant again, I hope Marissa is with me.

11 reviews • 200 families supported • 10 years experience

Dakota is a Certified Birth Doula, Full-Spectrum Doula (birth, postpartum, miscarriage, termination and loss), Placenta Encapsulation Specialist and Ceremonialist living in Lyons, Colorado. She is also a student midwife who occasionally assists a home-birth midwife in the Boulder area and provides an assortment of other offerings for the childbearing continuum like Childbirth Education, Belly Binding, Council Circles and Mother/Parent Roasting, etc. Avidly studying birth since 2010, Dakota has always known that this was her “calling”. Through her years of doula and midwifery training in Bali, North Carolina, Vermont and Colorado, she deeply understands the importance of families feeling educated and empowered during their birthing experience and the impact that can have on the newborn child’s life, the family unit as a whole and the wider community. Dakota fiercely advocates for her clients in all birth settings and holds a larger vision of birth as a transformative Rite of Passage. She is passionate about holding space for clients who are interested in bringing more intention and sacredness to their birthing journey through a variety of ceremonial offerings (mother/parent honoring ceremonies, yoni steaming and sealing ceremonies, to list just a few). Dakota is also one of the founding members of The Mother’s Center in Boulder (www.themotherscenter.org). There, she holds donation-based council circles for pregnant and postpartum people in the community, as well as an assortment of other offerings like Kirtan (devotional chanting), meditation, community potlucks and many different types of workshops and ceremonies. When she is not at a birth or holding space at The Mother’s Center, you can find Dakota soaking in natural hot springs around the state, dancing the 5-Rhythms, sitting in women’s circles and probably using way too much ghee when cooking!

Care philosophy

"Matrescence" (according to anthropologist Dana Rafael) is the birth of a Mother/Parent. The Rite of Passage. It is with love and presence that I hold your hand during this Sacred Transition. And I honor your personal story. Each transition into parenthood is unique. Whatever the outcome of your pregnancy, I am here with you. I will advocate for and support *your* choice and *your* intuition.

Lactation consultants help parents understand the best way to comfortably breastfeed their baby and help them navigate breastfeeding social norms. They can also help reduce stress and anxiety about breastfeeding, or help with specific challenges (such as breastfeeding twins, for example). Other parents might just want emotional support that doesn’t currently exist within their family, workplace, or network or friends.

Certified lactation consultants can also help with specialized issues that may arise with premature children or sick children. A parent may not have thought about breastfeeding help until they notice that their baby isn’t gaining weight properly, and finally realize that they might need some support and knowledge before continuing to breastfeed. Some parents might be anxious about breastfeeding in public or feel like they want access to a breastfeeding expert to help both inform and support them. A lactation consultant in Fort Collins, CO can also help young professional parents schedule their breastfeeding efficiently so that they can return to work quicker, while others might specialize in helping with breastfeeding anxiety issues.

Unfortunately, many parents run into issues such as low milk supply, nipple engorgement, or latching problems that can affect their baby’s health. These lactation specialists can be useful for troubleshooting, advice, or emotional support.

Certified lactation consultants can strengthen the bond between parents and their babies through breastfeeding advice, tips, and support. This might include showing parents how to help their baby latch properly, establishing feeding schedules, or dealing with sore nipples or engorgement. A lactation consultant can help new parents better understand their baby’s needs in general, and monitor the baby’s growth and development.
