Our pre-birth meetings with Cassandra helped us prepare mentally and emotionally for the process. She especially encouraged my partner as he prepared to help me through the labor experience. Although I wanted to have a completely natural birth experience, Cassandra helped me understand the possible twists and turns that commonly happen during birth so that I was mentally prepared for my unique experience. By the time my due-date approached, we both felt like we had tools to face whatever might happen during labor and delivery.

During our delivery, we had a nurse rotation change and I did not feel comfortable with our new nurse. Cassandra helped me navigate those feelings, she worked with the hospital staff, and advocated for a new nurse to rotate into my room. I was so thankful to have her cool head during that tense moment!

Our birth experience stands out as one of the most wonderful team experiences we’ve had as a family. My partner and I felt so connected as we worked together, and I truly believe Cassandra’s help and preparation gave us the tools we needed to work together effectively.

As the daughter of a midwife-turned-L&D-nurse, I have always had an interest in birth work. At 22, I completed DONA birth doula training in Chicago and volunteered with Chicago Volunteer Doulas. After staying for an extended time with close friends during their postpartum periods, and becoming pregnant with my own child, I knew I wanted to deepen my training, my experience, and my contribution to my community. I completed DONA postpartum doula training with Ann Grauer in September 2024 and am currently pursuing my postpartum doula certification through DONA. As your postpartum doula, my number one priority will be encouraging the self-determination of your family. No one knows your baby more than you -- I am not there to tell you how to parent, but rather to provide practical, informational, and emotional support as you learn how to integrate your new baby into your family. I provide mindful and loving support in family wellness, newborn feeding, and newborn care. This can look like: - providing feeding support, whether that's nursing or bottle feeding (with breastmilk or formula) - ensuring everyone is set up to get the most sleep they possibly can - connecting you with local resources as needed, both medical and social - providing up-to-date, evidence-based information about newborn care and the postpartum period - enabling you to eat, sleep, and shower by holding your baby - assisting with other children as they adjust to their new sibling - doing light chores to reduce chaos and promote peace wherever possible - listening to your feelings about this new phase in your life - offering suggestions where appropriate to maximize joy and reduce stress where possible - just being with you through this challenging but beautiful time Above all, I'm there for YOU.

Care philosophy

The days and weeks after you welcome your baby to your family are so precious. My goal as your postpartum doula is to help make those moments as enjoyable as possible by empowering you to be the best parent(s) you can be. This can look like a lot of things -- feeding support, taking care of baby while you rest/eat/shower, light housework, and providing a discerning and empathetic ear.

I created HER birth doula services to help educate woman during pregnancy and beyond. At HER birth doula services we believe in having “your birth your way”. “Your birth your way” speaks to the power that you have within and the power that comes from being informed. I want to help women take back their power and own their birthing experiences. Birth is a natural process that should be honored not altered. As your Doula, I’m here to remind you of that very thing.

Care philosophy

My goal is to provide the resources and support needed to help families make the best decisions for their birthing experiences. I am also passionate about making doula services available to teen mothers that may not otherwise receive the support that they need.

I am a full spectrum doula trained with Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings. I got my start in care work as an assistant infant teacher at a daycare back in 2018 where I worked for two and a half years with infants ages 6 weeks to 18 months. I’ve worked as a professional nanny and babysitter to newborns and children as old as 4. Most recently I’ve been working in reproductive health and abortion care. My passion for care work and birth support led me to becoming a full spectrum doula where I’ve been able to deepen my connection to my community by providing much needed postpartum support for all folks.

Care philosophy

As a trauma-informed, postpartum doula, my goal is to provide holistic postpartum support tailored to my client’s specific needs. No two birthing experiences are alike and neither is the postpartum period- whatever level of support you’re looking for, we can work together to make sure your needs will be met.

A postpartum doula in Akron, OH is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Akron, OH offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Akron, OH can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Akron, OH. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Akron, OH, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Akron, OH is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Akron, OH: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
