Hi everyone! I’m the oldest of three so reminding mothers to take time for themselves and helping with children is very natural for me. Doula-ing (whether I knew what it was or not) has always been a theme in my life, and is something that has become very dear to me in the past few years. I’m currently pursuing a nursing degree in hopes of empowering and educating as many families in the area as possible. Outside of birthwork, I can be found in any plant aisle or snuggled up with a book at home.

Care philosophy

Rather than believe any birth plan or goal is better than another, I believe that each family deserves to choose what's best for them without judgement. My care is deeply rooted in providing evidence based information, unbiased support, and the tools you need to make informed decisions. I support all birthing bodies, in all environments.

Hello, my name is Diamond Christian, CD(DONA). I am the owner and founder of Seeds of Sunshine Doula Care. I am a DONA certified birth and postpartum doula serving the greater Columbus metropolitan area. I am also a mom of one amazing teen and a 7lb poodle named Lucy. On any given day you can find me crafting or spending time out in nature in my kayak or hiking in the hills.  My passion for childbirth evolved from my very own experience within the hospital industrial complex. My experiences led to discover the disparities within the birthing community and amplified my desire to impact birthing outcomes to ensure a positive birthing experience for all. My role as a birth doula is to provide physical and emotional support, information and advocacy during pregnancy and immediate postpartum. It is an absolute honor to support women and their growing families during this amazing and intimate time. As well as to ensure a safe, memorable and empowering birthing experience.

Care philosophy

Everyone deserves a beautiful, joy-filled, and supported birthing experience. Everyone deserves a doula.

Dezanee Bluthenthal

Hiya! I am Dezanee Bluthenthal (She/Her/Hers). I received my Postpartum Doula training through the National Black Doula Association. I am actively working on receiving my certification through the NBDA as well. Providing care to individuals that are in their 4th trimester was always a passion of mine. I was providing Postpartum support for the women around me way before I knew what a Doula was. The stars have finally aligned, and I am finally able to provide that support with the knowledge I have learned through my completed training. As your postpartum doula, I am here to help your family in those first days and weeks after the new baby arrives. I will assist you with self-care recovery measures, provide information on mother and baby care, assist you in caring for and feeding baby/babies, breastfeeding support, infant soothing, teaching and education, assist your family with adjusting to the new roles and responsibilities, assist with sibling adjustments, assist with pet adjustments and parent coaching. I also offer light household support.

Care philosophy

Pregnancy-related mortality rates are 3x higher in birthing people of color than in white birthing people. There is also a prevalence of maternal mental health conditions in birthing people of color that goes underreported and unaddressed at a alarming rate. These facts were the catalyst to my purpose in combatting these disparities through a evidence-based and holistic approach.

April was my first experience working with a doula and she was a key reason why I was able to achieve my home birth VBAC. Her focus on supporting the entire pregnancy rather than just the birth provided so much more support (physically, emotionally, and in a way spiritually) for my husband and I. I am so grateful for her support both during and after the birth. I hope to work with her again if we decide to have more children.

I believe in being a holistic Doula because I believe childbirth can be peaceful, empowering, and that every woman should feel satisfied with her birth experience. I understand that birth is a healthy and natural physiological process, which our bodies were made to do. However, sometimes having a knowledgeable coach to help you confidently and comfortably adjust to your new role is vital to yours and your child's future development.

Care philosophy

As a Doula, I will provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support during your pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period for you and your family! My primary focus is serving lower income Women of Color in the Columbus Ohio. I have nearly 30 years experience and certifications in childbirth, education, lactation, early childhood care and psychology.

A postpartum doula in Springfield, OH is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Springfield, OH offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Springfield, OH can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Springfield, OH. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Springfield, OH, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Springfield, OH is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Springfield, OH: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
