    Practice overview

    Margaret's doula journey began in Cambodia. While living there, she researched local women's birth experiences. She learned that the women from her village all gave birth without pain medication by necessity. However, they also lacked information on natural ways to ease birth pains and help labor progress. They frequently had difficult births where they felt alone and unsupported. Knowing from personal experience how much difference childbirth education and labor support makes, Margaret was inspired to become a doula. Margaret returned to California in 2023 and offers compassionate doula care and practical childbirth education to families in San Diego. She holds a master's degree in language development, has studied 7 languages, and offers doula services in English and Khmer.

    Care philosophy

    My favorite thing about being a doula is equipping moms with knowledge so that they can approach birth with peace and confidence. I help moms create sensory-friendly birth plans and explore all their options in advance. This puts them in the best position to make healthy decisions for themselves and their babies. I also love providing emotional support and hands on physical support.

    Birth Package
    Flexible package. Families can choose how many prenatal and postpartum visits they would like. Private childbirth education is available as an add on. All packages include at least 1 prenatal visit, birth planning, birth support, and 1 postpartum visit.

      Margaret met with me and reviewed my birth plan. She gave me a detailed worksheet and explained all of the various components and options and answered all of my questions. It was helpful to hear her perspective and what other clients did/preferred. She was very kind and understanding, and I felt like she listened to me and was thoughtful in her responses. We did not end up using doula services for childbirth, but if we had, I would definitely have reached out to Margaret!

      Margaret is very knowledgable and shares that with the expecting parents and doctors in a kind and gentle way. Her own previous experience allows her to extend empathy and compassion to her clients. Margaret does a great job in asking questions and helping the expecting parents to think through things for the anticipation of the birth of their child. Not only did she support me in a tremendous way when I gave birth and was available in the middle of the night for my delivery, she was a huge help to my husband. He felt that without her, the delivery would have been really tough for him as he cared for me and had decisions to make along the way. We are so thankful for Margaret and that we had her part of such an important day. Margaret felt like extended family to us and we will forever be grateful that she shared the day our daughter was born with us.

      Margaret is very kind, considerate and a gentle communicator that is amazing to be guided by. She has a lot of experience in birth in a non western settings and I found that a huge comfort knowing I was getting advice from someone who can guide me through the most natural birth possible. She is also very open to all sorts of birth plans and clearly communicated the importance/ cause and effect of each decision throughout the birth process. She also is amazing at reassuring things may not be perfect during the birth but it doesn’t derail everything. Overall I feel she can provide excellent care and compassion.
