I have a heart to support birthing and postpartum mothers. After marrying my highschool sweetheart, earning my Bachleor’s degree in psychology and becoming pregnant with our first child, I became interested in becoming a doula. I later trained at the Indie Birth Association, which emphasizes autonomous and natural birthing practices, as well as Uzazi Village, which prioritizes birth assistance for black and brown families. These Associations have given me unique experiences to better serve families. I’m so grateful for my supportive husband, with whom I now have 4 young children, for encouraging me to pursue my dreams. In my free time I love to spend time with my family, homeschool my children, go to church with my family, read the Word, work on handcrafts, garden, explore the outdoors (kids and dirt were made for each other!) and continue my birth work education to become a midwife one day.

Care philosophy

The beginning of new life can be a wild time. Here at Wild Beginnings Birth we aim to support your family throughout pregnancy, labor and postpartum in a way that is unique to your family’s needs.

Hi! I’m Kayla, I’m a mom of 3! I have three very different birth stories! My first birth taught me the importance of education and consent. I treasure my photos from my first birth and those pictures are the only memories I have of my birth! My second and third birth were very healing births!! I strive to help family’s have the education walking through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum and then have the memory’s with photographs afterwards!

Care philosophy

Hey momma, I love helping family’s through their stories of becoming parents, I love supporting mentally, emotionally, physically and capturing the story with photography!

Kayla helped me throughout both of my high risk pregnancies. During my first I dealt with severe prenatal sickness in which she recommended helpful items to ease discomfort as well as postpartum help with my oversupply of breast milk. With my second child she provided ongoing prenatal support and went to an ultrasound to translate different terms from me during my scan. Postpartum she provided help with relactation as a formula shortage arose as well as help during my first 12 weeks postpartum with managing pain(I had a bruised tailbone and abdominal separation) and just overall talking to help with PPD. She even suggested some great coping techniques to combat PPD while I was actively waiting on my doctors appointment for medical help. She is great at what she does and puts her whole heart into it.

Both pregnancies I was induced at 37 weeks and had an epidural and she was still completely supportive of my decisions.

After the birth of my first child, I felt compelled to follow my passions of being a resource of support for others during such a pivotal time. I realized that every pregnancy & birth journey deserves support, advocacy & guidance no matter the outcome. I believe in holding space for the birthing person and encouraging them to lean into their strength as they bring their baby earth side.

Care philosophy

I aim to enlighten, encourage & support families on their journey to parenthood whether it be their first, second or fifth time around. Pregnancy is a normal occurrence and each will have different variations. It does not always have to be treated as an emergency. I want parents to know all their options, taking care to focus on their mental, physical, emotional & spiritual wellbeing.

I have been a birth doula in the OKC metro area since November of 2016. My passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and postpartum began during my own journey into motherhood. The more I prepared for my birth, the bigger my passion grew. Like most stories in life, my son's birth didn't go exactly as I had planned. It did, however, completely transform the way I saw myself. I now find great joy in walking with other families through their own transformation stories as they grow their families. I have a deep love for Jesus, my husband and our two children, family, and our community of friends. We are faithfully connected to a church in downtown OKC and love being a part of what God is doing in our city. In my free time, I enjoy adventuring somewhere outside with my family, drinking a cup of coffee, spending time connecting with friends, reading, painting/creating something, and spending time in bookstores. I am an introverted extrovert, enneagram 9, and a chaser of joy and curiosity.

Care philosophy

It is my goal to help my clients feel prepared, respected, and confident; regardless of how their journey unfolds. Although the number one goal of birth is a healthy mama and healthy baby, I believe there is much more to the story. Birth is a transformative experience for the entire family and holds great value for the rest of your life.

Having Ashlee as our doula was nothing short of a gift!!! As first time parents we were navigating so many unknowns. All we knew was that we wanted to have a natural birth in a hospital. We knew that we needed to learn more but we also deeply needed support. Ashlee was that and so much more. Her prenatal visits leading up to the birth were so helpful! They made us feel more confident in the things we were learning, and also created space for us to really think about what we wanted for our birth experience. Her words were encouraging and empowering. She was always attentive, fully present, and so patient with all of my questions! Her presence brought peace and comfort during labor and delivery for both me and my husband. Her support during labor allowed my husband to be fully present and attentive to me throughout the whole experience! Ashlee is genuine, intentional, and gifted in what she does! My husband and I can’t imagine not having her with us in our future pregnancy’s/deliveries!!

Juliet Henson is a DONA trained Birth Doula, Cloth Diapering Educator, and owner of Empowered Lotus Doula Services. She earned her degree in Music Education with a minor in Spanish, but took a turn in her career path when she gave birth to her first child. Now, since she obviously can’t birth 100 babies, she is thrilled to support others on their journeys. The details of childbirth can be recalled for the rest of a parent’s life. When the parents make their own INFORMED decisions in birth, they will remember their birth experience as positive. They must feel loved, supported and EMPOWERED. Raising her family, some by birth and some by loving choice after their births, has given Juliet a unique perspective in family dynamics. Guiding family members of “blended” families of all configurations through the changes a new baby brings is near to her heart. With a strong and nurtured partner relationship, transitions are eased and incredible bonds grow! After living through her own miscarriage, she is also passionate about helping families navigate pregnancy after loss. Juliet enjoys parenting her 7 children, growing organic fruits and vegetables, tending to her backyard chickens, and teaching her kids a more sustainable, natural lifestyle. She is always learning and striving to do better in her personal and community life.

Care philosophy

Childbirth is a sacred, personal, powerful experience. I dedicate myself to supporting the laboring couple in the unique way they need. Through prenatal meetings, I get to know my clients personally. This way, I am prepared to meet those individual needs in the labor and birth process. Truly informed choices are key to experiencing an empowering birth, so I also focus on personalized education.

I am a certified DONA and Madriella Birth Doula. I am also certified through Madriella as a postpartum doula and a Childbirth Educator. My heart is full of passion for pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester. I began working with families when I was a teenager. The passion was instinctual and naturally grew as I got older. But it took me into my late 30's to turn this passion into my career. I immediately began learning everything I could about pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. I am continually taking classes, online and in-person, to gain more knowledge and education so that I can pass it on to my client! A little about me...I have been married for 18 years. My husband and I have four children, all adopted through foster care. And we now have two precious granddaughters (my very favorite if I say so myself 😉) I would really love to meet you and your family. Please contact me for a free consultation so we can get to know one another and see if I would be the doula you desire!

Care philosophy

My love for moms and her family go back as far in my life as I can remember. I love that I can take my passion and turn it into a career. When you hire me, you will have all my support with my whole heart. I serve my clients through education, encouragement, honesty, and compassion. I am unbiased and non-judgmental. My goal is for you to have the best transition into adding to your family!

I found Courtney early in my pregnancy. She helped me switch providers to one that was more to my liking. She saved me so many pointless ER trips + answered all my questions efficiently and provided evidence based research with every answer. She calmed all my new mama nerves by helping inform me. I went to birth confidently in my power as a birthing women with her and my husband along my side and brought forth a beautiful baby boy, following my birth plan as much as possible and advocating for me in my fragile after birth state. She provided placenta services and continues to visit and help me 16 months postpartum. I consider her a genuine friend and she’s full of so much knowledge and love. I can confidently recommend her.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Edmond, OK.

You can browse through the available doulas in Edmond, OK and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Edmond, OK in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Edmond, OK. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Edmond, OK doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a doula in Edmond, OK is $961, but typically ranges from $922 to $1,000. These costs are based on a representative group of 9 doulas surveyed by Meela in the Edmond area. The average cost of a doula in Edmond, OK is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of Oklahoma, which is $812.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Edmond, OK is about the same as the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Edmond, OK, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Edmond, OK: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Edmond, OK, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Edmond, OK can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Edmond, OK does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Edmond, OK will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Edmond, OK can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Edmond, OK; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
