Jillian B. in Wilmington, NC

Jillian Bretz Doula

    Practice overview

Birthwork is my passion. I love nothing more than supporting families and watching them grow in their own, unique ways. Your birth experience matters! I provide my clients with the information necessary to make informed choices, every step of the way. I support them emotionally and physically, when it is needed most. I was called to this work on the postpartum side - I began supporting friends and family during this very special time in their lives. From there, I went on to train and study as a birth doula and a postpartum doula. While I am not serving postpartum clients at this time, I do share my insight and expertise with my birth clients in order to help them prepare for their postpartum experiences. I have continued to take trainings to develop my professional skills and serve my clients best. Some of these trainings include: WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, Spinning Babies, Birth Monopoly's Know Your Rights Course, and The VBAC Link's Advanced Doula Training. I love working with ALL families and am experienced in supporting VBAC, HBAC; first-time or experienced parents; those expecting multiples or singletons; conception after IUI/IVF; families who have experienced loss; and including single parents, adoptive parents, LBGTQ+ parents, and military families. I support hospital births and assisted homebirths. I take a limited number of clients per month so that I can provide individualized support to each and every family that I serve. I am now consulting with people who are due in the late summer and fall of 2021.

Birth support begins prenatally. Once the contract is signed, I'm available for your questions and concerns via calls and texts. We will have 2-3 meetings to discuss your options and preferences, go over comfort measures as well as postpartum recovery and develop a relationship that will serve you best during your labor. During your labor I will be with you, supporting you and your partner through it all. After you welcome baby and get settled in with the first feeding, I will leave you for some special family time. We will see each other again for a postpartum check-in and postpartum visit.

Jillian was absolutely amazing. We sought out a doula because we were expecting our first baby and resources were so limited due to Covid. Now I see why having a doula is so important, pandemic or not. She was kind, genuine, knowledgeable, and supportive. She educated us on so many things we had no idea about, and she prepared us for every scenario the big day could bring. Additionally, she provided my spouse with just as much support as she did me- something that was very important to us. She comes with no judgment and is an incredible advocate for expecting families before, during, and after labor and delivery. Almost six months later and I can still shoot her a text if I have baby questions! Before I would have never considered having a doula, but after hiring Jillian I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want one, especially Jillian. I absolutely highly recommend her!

You know when people are simply MADE to do something? This woman was created to empower other women by providing the knowledge and information necessary to help you make informed decisions for your body, your baby, and the birth you envision. I cannot say enough or recommend Jillian more highly. I’m so grateful for all the wisdom she has imparted and the confidence she instilled in us.
