Monica R. | Doula in Virginia Beach, VA

Graceful Doula Services

    Practice overview

My name is Monica. I’m a wife of 19 years and a mom to 4 beautiful girls. Being a military wife for 13 years, it was really hard not having the family support when my husband was on deployment or on debt. So I had to read a ton of books and learn from mistakes on the way. That’s when I wanted to become a doula. But I waited until my kids were all in school. So I did an in home daycare for 14 years. I started my doula journey in September 2021.

Monica is a hard working, dedicated person. She’s also very caring! Her life experiences as a woman and a mother will help her connect with clients, as well as better understand their needs. I highly recommend Monica as a doula for your prenatal, birthing, and/or your postnatal care.

I was having a hard time breastfeeding my son Jackson after he was born. I desperately wanted to breastfeed Jackson but felt like giving up. My sister couldn’t come and help me until the summer so she told me to post on one of the Facebook groups. I got on Facebook and posted on a mom’s group to vent. Mrs.Monica privately messaged me and told me she was a doula and also a breastfeeding counselor. I told her I would like to get help soon. Mrs.Monica came over the next day! She helped me establish a better latch and showed me different positions to breastfeed Jackson. Mrs.Monica was very caring and knew what to do to make me feel like I wasn’t a failure if breastfeeding didn’t work for me. She told me “fed is best”. Mrs.Monica knew I was exhausted from being up all night with Jackson. So she said go take a nap and I’ll watch Jackson. I took a nap and Mrs. Monica not only took care of Jackson, she cleaned my kitchen, finished my laundry and prepared dinner for me. I will be forever grateful for Mrs. Monica. If it wasn’t for her I know I would of given up on breastfeeding. Now, I’m going on 6 months of breastfeeding! She still takes her time to reach out to me to see how we are doing. We love her so much!
