In everything I do, whether supporting families through postpartum care or preparing a nourishing meal, my driving force is a genuine love and care. I believe in infusing every moment with warmth, creating an atmosphere where love is not just a sentiment but a tangible presence. My goal is to spread a joyful spirit wherever I go, leaving behind a trail of positivity and heartfelt connections. It's more than a profession for me; it's a commitment to bringing comfort, joy, and a sense of community to those I have the privilege to assist.

Care philosophy

Hi, I'm Jala, your doula and food enthusiast! Inspired by my love for cooking and a deep commitment to addressing the lack of representation, especially of Black birth workers, I've chosen this path to ensure a supportive and inclusive birthing experience for all. I find immense joy in sharing my love for cooking with clients. Every meal is a chance to infuse warmth and care into your new journey!

I want to help expectant families have the same empowered and supported birthing experience that I did back in 2014 when I experienced a water birth at home with my third child. My experience with Sheryll was absolutely amazing. I was a first time mom at the age of 46 and was seeking someone to help me through a stressful pregnancy and Sheryll was the sweetest and most patient soul. She is so soft spoken and full of amazing knowledge, and when it came time for delivery, she instilled a complete sense of calm in me. I highly recommend her as a Doula, she is wonderful.

As an ECE and preschool owner for almost 30 years, I helped countless families to navigate new parenthood as they grew their families. From practical support to tearful conversations, I witnessed, again and again, the emotional challenges of pp and the need for skilled, compassionate support. When I was pregnant with my 3 children, I too experienced the lack of authentic support for new moms. While each postpartum experience was different, I did not receive the support I needed. Today, as a Bay Area Postpartum Doula, I strive to create a warm and nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable and empowered throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. With years of experience and a deep understanding of the physical and emotional aspects of new parenthood, I am dedicated to helping you navigate this beautiful and transformative time in your life.

Care philosophy

Modern Mama Doulas welcomes everyone. I approach each growing family with sensitivity, understanding, Love and Support.

My journey in birth work started at age 12, when I had the unique experience of catching my little sister. At age 22, I started my work as a volunteer doula in Vermont, serving members in the community who lacked support. My early volunteer work gave me a deep understanding of how hospitals function, and how to work with medical staff towards the best possible outcomes for parent and child. I wanted to start working with families throughout pregnancy and in postpartum, so I received further training through DONA. Having been through two training programs has given me a diverse range of strategies to employ throughout my support. This work has been part of me forever, and I feel so grateful to have been invited to participate in many births since. I have experience supporting medicated and unmedicated births with first, second, and fourth-time parents, queer parents, low-income parents, autistic parents, non-native English-speaking parents, sexual assault survivors, people with depression, and parents of color at Kaiser (San Leandro and Redwood City), UCSF Mission Bay, CPMC, and John Muir Walnut Creek. I am a member of the queer community and this has influenced my belief that all bodies deserve respectful, compassionate, and culturally humble care.

Care philosophy

My role as a doula is to educate families and validate their preferences. I give birthing people and their partners the tools needed to make informed decisions and navigate their births with confident. My goal is to help you have a birth you take pride in, regardless of birthing location or ideals.

I highly recommend Morgan as a Doula. I think she is going to be the next big thing and feel really lucky to have been able to work with her on short notice for my first baby. She is extremely warm, detail oriented, reliable, professional, enthusiastic and positive, and open and collaborative. I interviewed several doulas, including one who has been running a group practice for 10 years, and Morgan was by far the most responsive to what I had said I was looking for, and had the most collaborative approach with my loved ones and hospital staff. During the birth she was extremely available and helped to create a positive and cozy atmosphere and made the hospital room feel more like home. She helped us think through some difficult decisions on the day of as well. After the delivery, my nurse went out of her way to comment on how great Morgan had been with the hospital staff and said they would love to work with her again. Overall it was fantastic to work with her and I can recommend her without reservations.

As your doula, I offer continuity of care through the entirety of your perinatal journey, from pregnancy through to postpartum. I am a trained full-spectrum doula with Doula Trainings International. Additional supplemental training consists of - intentional breathing and relaxation, hypnobirthing, spinning babies, acupressure and moxibustion, and tantra. I acknowledge that not all those who give birth identify as women, and happily support different family arrangements and backgrounds. It is a sincere privilege to work with families during this life changing time in their lives, and I strive to work collaboratively with birthing families to help you understand, request, and receive the care that you need. Through listening empathetically, sharing latest evidence-based information, understanding physiologic birth, and providing tools for self-advocacy, I aspire to make you feel safe and empowered.

Care philosophy

As a DTI trained doula my philosophy is aligned with their mission of believing that families deserve compassionate, evidence-based support at all stages of life—no matter their gender, race, religion, class or sexual orientation. Together, we are cultivating culturally humble communities that reimagine the role of reproductive work.

Glen was my postpartum doula who stayed with me some days and some night. She kept me hydrated, made very tasty food and encouraged skin to skin time with baby. She’d use this time to do laundry or wash dishes and I really was able to focus on bonding with my baby and not about other things. She showed me how to keep my baby sleeping safe and helped me address my postpartum anxiety in so many ways.

My name is Alia and I am a birth and postpartum doula, as well as a student midwife. I like to practice in a way that is balanced between magic and medicine. I have been working professionally as a doula since 2020 and have attended births in all settings - homes, hospitals, and birth centers. When I learned about the positive impacts doulas provide for birthing folks, I knew that’s where I wanted to focus my energy.

Care philosophy

Birth is sacred. The time and space around birth can be incredibly vulnerable. I believe that support should be custom-tailored to the needs of the individual and should include evidence informed care. Every journey into parenthood is unique and the care I offer models that belief.

I am a wife and a mother of 3. I decided to become a doula after the births of my own children. I felt like I was not educated as well as I should have been on birth and my options with my 1st pregnancy. So the second time around I took a different approach to birth and really took ownership of my birth and had such a better outcome. I figured if I could achieve the birth I wanted others could too and all that was needed for that to happen was more education around birth.

Care philosophy

My philosophy is that it is your birth. My job is to educate, empower, and support the families I work with. I provide evidence based information so families feel equipped to make informed decisions around their births. I support my clients in whatever decisions they make.

We will schedule up to three prenatal visits, during these visits we will go over everything needed for me to support you properly during labor. Our visits help us build trust and nurture a comfort level that enables us to build a great connection and ease that we can draw from as we work together. First visit- Getting to know you: We’ll review and discuss your intake to clarify and help me learn a little bit more about you, your needs and desires for childbirth. Second visit- Childbirth Prep/Birth Plan: We will 1. Go over signs and stages of labor, understanding the physiology of labor ) 2. Discuss birth wishes - understanding different procedures in childbirth and clarifying your preferences as a couple. 3. Work on your “Birth Plan”. Third visit- Build your tool box / labor rehearsal : 1. Discuss comfort measures and coping techniques and learn couples’ preferences. 2. Practice comfort measures, and get “labor ready”....

Care philosophy

My services begin with you. I respect that each mama and family’s experience and journey is uniquely theirs. Rosevera was invaluable in supporting and leading us through the birth of our son. I wanted to have a minimal-intervention birth, and Rosevera was there to support the whole time during the labor, almost 24 hours starting at 2am! Rosevera was a great support to my husband, the medical staff, and especially to me in helping me emotionally and physically with moving and trying different positions. This was especially helpful in progressing the labor and allowing me to progress without an epidural. I give my strongest recommendation to Rosevera, you will be lucky if you can have her support at your birth!

I have over 20 years of experience working with children. I have been a babysitter, nanny, coach, parent, grandparent, and teacher. I have been working with children who are in their early childhood developmental years and have become fond of working with newborns and their mothers through their fourth-trimester journey. It is only recently that I decided to become a professional doula in 2019. After working with many clients and their infants, it was a client who suggested that I look into the Postpartum Doula role. After my postpartum training with CAPPA, I decided to further my career and start working toward my labor and birth doula training, as well as becoming a new parent and childbirth educator.

Care philosophy

My philosophy is that we all need support without judgment. I share evidence-based resources to educate you and your support partner to empower you to speak up and feel confident when approaching your care team. As your Doula, I will ensure you have every opportunity to make the best decisions possible for you and your child, so you can have the best possible outcome.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, I have been passionate about women's health care for as long as I can remember! The innate strength of women and the miracle of birth has certainly helped shape my career thus far. In my nursing studies, I came to realize that not many women were aware of the many benefits of doula support. Access to doula care is not just important to me but has been shown to improve family outcomes and satisfaction. I want to be affordable and accessible to all women in the Bay Area, therefore I strive to offer services that meet your budget. While working as a doula, I also study nursing at Dominican University of California, in hopes of one day becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. Please visit my website at www.bayareaholisticbirthing.com/

Care philosophy

My philosophy surrounding doula work stems from the idea that women's bodies possess all the knowledge and strength needed for a successful labor and birth. Your body was made for this, and you are capable! I strongly support the notion that an optimal birth setting is one in which the mother feels safe, supported, and secure. As a holistic birth doula, I strive to provide a client-individualized

I work to provide compassionate, non-judgemental, aware and evidence-based support and resources for all my clients and appreciate the different shapes and sizes birth preferences, birth journeys and families can come in. I began my birth work in the Bay Area of California and received my birth and postpartum doula certification through Doula Training International. I practiced doula work in the Bay Area and New York. I am CPR/AED certified, have a background in Neurobiology, Education, Global Poverty, newborn nannying and nursing support and have built a robust birthing community (lactation consultants, midwives, OBGYNs, photographers, therapist, LGBTQ+ friendly centers, childcare providers, prenatal yoga, etc) in the East Bay down through Palo Alto and in San Francisco where I serve. I see community as a strength all birthing people should be able to benefit from and continue to offer low-cost/sliding scale support to achieve this goal.

Care philosophy

I believe you already possess the necessary tools to bring life into this world and view my role as your doula—a culturally competent emotional, physical and educational support, active listener and protector of your rights and wishes—as a hands-on comfort and confidence booster your family can use to reach your birthing and parenting goals.

I am the mum of 6 beautiful children and each and every birth was unique whether it was at home, a birthing centre, or in a hospital. The level of care I received definitely impacted my birth experience and I really feel every mum should feel safe and in control of her choices, as much as she can when she is going through one of the most unique and special moments in their life. I breastfed all my children and have helped others to learn how easy and beautiful it is with the right support. This is why I feel I can help support you and your family whether it be before, during or after the birth, and look forward to the opportunity to meet with you.

Care philosophy

As a mum of 6, I know how every birth journey can be different. I believe that the care surrounding your pregnancy should have a focus on the entire family. I like to make sure that all questions are asked and answered during your pregnancy and labor so you can make educated decisions along the way. I am here to support whatever decisions you make, this is your birth journey.

Hi, I'm Grace. My pronouns are she & her. I live and work in the Bay Area, and I would love to be your birth & postpartum doula. I became an abortion counselor & doula in 2012, and have been working in the reproductive health & justice movement ever since. Over the years, I've learned from ups & downs in modern healthcare, seen a rich diversity of experiences with pregnancy, and witnessed how listening to someone with curiosity and authenticity builds a connection that enriches us both. I trained with Doula Trainings International to become a birth & postpartum doula in 2019, and am now in practice as Doula with Grace. Please visit my website or contact me directly to learn more. I look forward to connecting!

Care philosophy

I work to help more people move through birth and new parenthood with dignity, compassion, and joy. No one should have to feel alone, uninformed, or surrounded by strangers telling them how their mind, body, and heart *should* feel as they bring their baby into the world. My philosophy is this: You deserve to be supported completely. I believe in you. And together, we’ve totally got this.

Each birth is as individual as the person birthing, and each family has desires and dreams and hopes for the birth of their child. As a Doula, I am there to support you and your partner in your desires for your birth. I firmly believe that as a Doula my role is to support both the birthing person and their partner in having the birth that they desire. Through education and information, so that they can make informed choices. Through emotional support, so that they have the confidence to believe in themselves and the choices they make. Through physical comfort measures, so that the experience of childbirth can be more fully enjoyed.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in San Jose, CA.

These costs are based on a representative group of 18 doulas surveyed by Meela in the San Jose area. The average cost of a doula in San Jose, CA is higher than the average cost of a doula in the state of California, which is $1,214.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in San Jose, CA is higher than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in San Jose, CA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in San Jose, CA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in San Jose, CA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in San Jose, CA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in San Jose, CA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in San Jose, CA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in San Jose, CA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in San Jose, CA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
