Hi all, I am a mom of three. My most top question people ask is How was my birth experiences? I've got to experience three very different births. My first baby was a Cesarean birth. My second was a VBAC and the third was preterm born via Vaginal. So, there you have it. Every birth has it very unique birthing story. The body does what it wants. I have been a Certified Labor Doula for over a year now. It has been absolutely amazing to support and help other women. I am currently in school working on RN degree to advance my career in the birthing field. I first began my journey attending my sister's birth back in 2017.I was able to witness and support her in ways that I didn't think was possible. Helping women be an advocate for themselves is so important to me.

Care philosophy

My birthing philosophy is every birth has it very own unique story. I believe birth should be exciting and not fearful. Every women birth preference is different. Follow me on IG and FB @Gifteddoulallc

Madhu was such an asset to my birth support team! From the first time I met her, she thoroughly listened to mine and my partners wants and needs and supported me the entire time. Having her as my doula really helped me have the birth I dreamed of. At every meeting, my partner and I learned something new and how to prepare for the arrival of our baby. So when the time came, we felt well equipped and prepared to stick to my birth plan. She provided us with comfort measures, information to make our own decisions, and most importantly peace of mind. I definitely recommend having Made as your doula!

Hi! My name is Cali with Ovum Doula Care. I have been a practicing birth doula for 3 years and have attended over 100 births. I am a certified birth, postpartum and hypno doula with continuing education in prenatal yoga and pelvic dynamics. I am also trained in neonatal resuscitation and am in the process of becoming a midwife assistant. I live in West Philadelphia with my three cats and partner. My birth package includes hundreds of resources, full time text and phone support, prenatal visits, on-call birth support, and a postpartum visit. Looking forward to working with you!

Care philosophy

My passion for birth stems from the belief that our bodies are innately capable of birthing and healing as our birth right and within safe circumstances. I believe everyone's care is going to look slightly different but has the shared goal of an empowering, supported, birth experience full of agency, body literacy, and educated consent no matter what the outcome.

My partner and I feel so fortunate to have worked with Cali as our birth doula. Experiencing pregnancy and birth for the first time felt incredibly daunting, especially as a queer couple navigating medical spaces that left us feeling disrespected. Cali ensured we always felt valid in our experience and offered her wealth of knowledge with empathy and respect. My pregnancy culminated in a home birth that Cali played a huge role in— from helping move my labor along, to maintaining a calm environment, my birth would have been a completely different experience had it not been for Cali. I cannot recommend her enough!

My birth Doula package includes two prenatal meetings in the clients home, unlimited text, email, phone calls, on call from the time I’m hired and join you in labor when you need me. I meet you at your home or the hospital and stay with you throughout your entire labor and an hour or two afterwards. I help get breast-feeding started if that is your wish and I document your birth story. I call or text 24 hours later and one week later I come for your postpartum at your home with a journal of the birth.

Care philosophy

I received my education through DONA International and started working as a birth Doula in 2012. I believe that education is key in pregnancy and teaching you how to advocate for yourself. Maternal services are not a one-size-fits-all. Birth might happen every day, but your baby is only born once, and your path to parenthood is unlike anyone else's. Your support should honor that incredibly special, once-in-a-lifetime journey! I support births at home, in the hospital, in the water, and beyond. I can be there for both medicated and unmedicated "natural birth" experiences (though I believe there's nothing more natural than birth in any form!), and I offer VBAC and C-Section support.

Care philosophy

My approach is pretty straight forward. One, I'm dedicated to my continued education to empower you with knowledge no matter what form your journey takes. Two, a passion for connection and empathy to encourage you through the joys and the anxieties of birth and postpartum.

Megan was such a wonderful source of support and information during my pregnancy, labor, delivery, and post-birth. She provided my husband and I with helpful information during my pregnancy, so that we felt informed and able to create a birth plan that we felt comfortable with. This was SO invaluable, especially during my first pregnancy!

During labor, Megan was right there with offers of support and encouragement. I felt like I was a challenging client in the delivery room, as I rejected so many of her tools ha! But she remained calm, positive, and continued to gently offer different options. My favorite was the cool washcloth with essential oils – it helped so much to calm me down and manage the nausea. She reminded me to breathe, and was SO incredibly encouraging.

Having Megan in the room to not only be a source of support for me and my husband, but also to advocate for me and what we had mapped out for our birth plan was wonderful. I wish that every expecting mama could receive this level of support!!

Find me on Facebook (Faith+Seed Doula Care) or Instagram @faithseeddoula. My name is Ariel, I'm a doula and owner of Faith+Seed Doula Care. I launched my doula practice last year in 2021 and have watched this journey be a blessing every step of the way. Birthwork is my passion and I'm honored to be sharing in the joys and challenges women experience as their families grow. Prior to doula care, I worked in early intervention, supporting families with babies and toddlers and the biggest takeaway was my passion to make this world a better place, by helping one mother/family at a time.

I am very excited to be able to offer doula care to those families looking for the one-on-one support that they deserve! I am Mom to 5 grown children of my own and Memaw to 4 grandchildren so far! I have always had a passion for the childbirth process and everything having to do with babies. Over the years I have supported my oldest daughter with her 3 boys, my sister with her daughter, and most recently my middle daughter with her son, so even though I've only been officially certified for a year, I have lots of experience in the field! Last year I finally took the step to become certified when my daughter became pregnant with her first baby and we found out that due to Covid-19 restrictions, only her husband and a certified doula would be allowed to be present at the hospital. I took this as a sign that it was time to follow my heart and finally get myself certified as a birth doula so that I can help others to have a positive experience, too. At this time, I am offering childbirth doula services virtually and in-person to give you the flexibility needed in today's changing world.

Care philosophy

I am committed to providing loving and nonjudgmental support and education, individually catered to your family's wants and needs during this exciting time! I truly believe that having the proper knowledge and tools ahead of time makes a world of difference in ensuring a positive birth experience.

When I say that God placed Doula work in my path, I truly mean it. I graduated from Millersville University with my Bachelor's in Social Work, so helping my community has always been a passion of mine. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Diversifying Doulas was an amazing program created through an organization called Patients R Waiting, that fully funded women of color in Lancaster, PA to become Doulas for FREE, as well as serve pregnant women of color in the community for free with our services, funded through Patients R Waiting! I happened to be scrolling on Facebook, I came across the program, and the rest was fate. Since then, I am now a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, and I am currently working towards my official DONA certification. With my background in Social Work and my deep empathy for advocating for women, becoming a Doula has been nothing short of empowering and amazing. Now, I aspire to share my newfound knowledge of the strength of women, as well as how to cope with labor, birth, and postpartum to help women experience pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with confidence and support.

Care philosophy

I am so passionate about informed consent, and helping my mamas to be understand their options during labor and birth to create a birth plan, help mamas understand their bodies through comfort measures and understanding labor, as well as empowering mamas to advocate for their baby, their body, and their birth. I hope through my services to help educate, empower, and inform!

Hey loves! My name is Jasha and I am The Saye Birth Doula. I am very excited to assist all birthing persons in their journey through pregnancy. At a young age, I remember being in awe by the essence of babies. Luckily me, I come from a big family, my mother, had 6 children, along with 6 fascinating tales of her natural child birth experiences. These stories clung to me as I entered college and researched through the lens of Anthropology, fertility and women’s reproducing agency in societies everywhere. Eventually, I became an auntie and realized I loved supporting my sister’s pregnancy. I felt the call to birth work while guiding my sister in meditation. Reconnecting to the body and the love that touches baby and cycles back to parents. It was an empowering moment of peace for my sister that spoke to me. Urging me to join MamaGlow Doula Immersion certification training.

Care philosophy

Jasha as the Saye Birth Doula specializes in honoring the remembrance of birthing experiences and creating comfort for the parent(s) to be. She helps to find the foundational grounding along the way to advance the desired birth plan and prompt our body’s natural pain relief to work throughout labor.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Reading, PA.

You can browse through the available doulas in Reading, PA and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Reading, PA in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Reading, PA. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Reading, PA doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, you can expect the average cost of a doula in Reading, PA to be $853, which is the average cost of a doula in the state of Pennsylvania. The cost of a doula in Reading, PA can range from $667 to $1,039. These costs are based on a representative group of 282 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of Pennsylvania. The average cost of a doula in Pennsylvania is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Reading, PA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Reading, PA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Reading, PA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Reading, PA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Reading, PA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Reading, PA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Reading, PA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Reading, PA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
