Hi all, I am a mom of three. My most top question people ask is How was my birth experiences? I've got to experience three very different births. My first baby was a Cesarean birth. My second was a VBAC and the third was preterm born via Vaginal. So, there you have it. Every birth has it very unique birthing story. The body does what it wants. I have been a Certified Labor Doula for over a year now. It has been absolutely amazing to support and help other women. I am currently in school working on RN degree to advance my career in the birthing field. I first began my journey attending my sister's birth back in 2017.I was able to witness and support her in ways that I didn't think was possible. Helping women be an advocate for themselves is so important to me.

Care philosophy

My birthing philosophy is every birth has it very own unique story. I believe birth should be exciting and not fearful. Every women birth preference is different. Follow me on IG and FB @Gifteddoulallc

Hi! My name is Cali with Ovum Doula Care. I have been a practicing birth doula for 3 years and have attended over 100 births. I am a certified birth, postpartum and hypno doula with continuing education in prenatal yoga and pelvic dynamics. I am also trained in neonatal resuscitation and am in the process of becoming a midwife assistant. I live in West Philadelphia with my three cats and partner. My birth package includes hundreds of resources, full time text and phone support, prenatal visits, on-call birth support, and a postpartum visit. Looking forward to working with you!

Care philosophy

My passion for birth stems from the belief that our bodies are innately capable of birthing and healing as our birth right and within safe circumstances. I believe everyone's care is going to look slightly different but has the shared goal of an empowering, supported, birth experience full of agency, body literacy, and educated consent no matter what the outcome.

My partner and I feel so fortunate to have worked with Cali as our birth doula. Experiencing pregnancy and birth for the first time felt incredibly daunting, especially as a queer couple navigating medical spaces that left us feeling disrespected. Cali ensured we always felt valid in our experience and offered her wealth of knowledge with empathy and respect. My pregnancy culminated in a home birth that Cali played a huge role in— from helping move my labor along, to maintaining a calm environment, my birth would have been a completely different experience had it not been for Cali. I cannot recommend her enough!

A postpartum doula can provide emotional support, help with breastfeeding, assist with household tasks, and offer guidance on newborn care. Having a doula can help ease the transition into motherhood and provide valuable support during this season of change. After giving birth, it's essential to ensure that everything is running smoothly. Every family has unique needs, so we work together to find the best approach to address and fulfill those needs. ALL packages include a 90-minute postpartum planning session. Before your baby is born your postpartum doula will meet you to plan our time together. Maternal services are not a one-size-fits-all. Birth might happen every day, but your baby is only born once, and your path to parenthood is unlike anyone else's. Your support should honor that incredibly special, once-in-a-lifetime journey! I support births at home, in the hospital, in the water, and beyond. I can be there for both medicated and unmedicated "natural birth" experiences (though I believe there's nothing more natural than birth in any form!), and I offer VBAC and C-Section support.

Care philosophy

My approach is pretty straight forward. One, I'm dedicated to my continued education to empower you with knowledge no matter what form your journey takes. Two, a passion for connection and empathy to encourage you through the joys and the anxieties of birth and postpartum.

Megan was such a wonderful source of support and information during my pregnancy, labor, delivery, and post-birth. She provided my husband and I with helpful information during my pregnancy, so that we felt informed and able to create a birth plan that we felt comfortable with. This was SO invaluable, especially during my first pregnancy!

During labor, Megan was right there with offers of support and encouragement. I felt like I was a challenging client in the delivery room, as I rejected so many of her tools ha! But she remained calm, positive, and continued to gently offer different options. My favorite was the cool washcloth with essential oils – it helped so much to calm me down and manage the nausea. She reminded me to breathe, and was SO incredibly encouraging.

Having Megan in the room to not only be a source of support for me and my husband, but also to advocate for me and what we had mapped out for our birth plan was wonderful. I wish that every expecting mama could receive this level of support!!

My birth doula training, 20+ years in childcare, and my own journey to motherhood have led me to feel an incredible responsibility to provide support on all levels and in all layers to parents and their children. I've worked in every aspect of caring for families and am privileged to be able to add birthwork and postpartum to that care. I am here to offer whatever is needed from families in my care, be it big or small. This can range from support during your birth, support in finding your new normal in postpartum, help with your children or errands, tagging along to help you capture those precious every day moments with photos, or just someone to listen or talk through the challenges of parenthood and juggling life!

These costs are based on a representative group of 43 postpartum doulas surveyed by Meela in the Philadelphia area. When hiring a postpartum doula in Philadelphia, PA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your postpartum doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

A postpartum doula in Philadelphia, PA is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Philadelphia, PA offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Philadelphia, PA can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Philadelphia, PA. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Philadelphia, PA, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Philadelphia, PA is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Philadelphia, PA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
