I have a heart to support birthing and postpartum mothers. After marrying my highschool sweetheart, earning my Bachleor’s degree in psychology and becoming pregnant with our first child, I became interested in becoming a doula. I later trained at the Indie Birth Association, which emphasizes autonomous and natural birthing practices, as well as Uzazi Village, which prioritizes birth assistance for black and brown families. These Associations have given me unique experiences to better serve families. I’m so grateful for my supportive husband, with whom I now have 4 young children, for encouraging me to pursue my dreams. In my free time I love to spend time with my family, homeschool my children, go to church with my family, read the Word, work on handcrafts, garden, explore the outdoors (kids and dirt were made for each other!) and continue my birth work education to become a midwife one day.

Care philosophy

The beginning of new life can be a wild time. Here at Wild Beginnings Birth we aim to support your family throughout pregnancy, labor and postpartum in a way that is unique to your family’s needs.

After the birth of my first child, I felt compelled to follow my passions of being a resource of support for others during such a pivotal time. I realized that every pregnancy & birth journey deserves support, advocacy & guidance no matter the outcome. I believe in holding space for the birthing person and encouraging them to lean into their strength as they bring their baby earth side.

Care philosophy

I aim to enlighten, encourage & support families on their journey to parenthood whether it be their first, second or fifth time around. Pregnancy is a normal occurrence and each will have different variations. It does not always have to be treated as an emergency. I want parents to know all their options, taking care to focus on their mental, physical, emotional & spiritual wellbeing.

I felt super comfortable with my investment in her and her business by the end of it all. Keyah’s communication was great as well. I never felt like she left me hanging and the turn around time for my placenta services was perfect, very fast. You can’t go wrong with her!

My experience includes preemies, high needs newborns, medically fragile newborns, special needs newborns, at risk newborns, etc. I am a DONA certified postpartum doula. I have taken postpartum doula training at Bastyr University, a course on breastfeeding, a course on drug affected infant care, and many more infant care courses. I also attended a DONA approved birth doula training. I am also a proud member of the OKC Metro Birth Professionals. My comfort level with newborns is high and I relish helping you experience the joy of a new baby!

Care philosophy

The birth and newborn stages are a short time, but also a special time for the family. Birth and postpartum assistance can be the difference between a stressful, frustrating time and an amazing, gratifying time. My goal is to support and encourage parents during labor and delivery, as well as the 4th trimester. My hope is that you will feel special, supported, enabled, and remembered.

I am a certified DONA and Madriella Birth Doula. I am also certified through Madriella as a postpartum doula and a Childbirth Educator. My heart is full of passion for pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester. I began working with families when I was a teenager. The passion was instinctual and naturally grew as I got older. But it took me into my late 30's to turn this passion into my career. I immediately began learning everything I could about pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. I am continually taking classes, online and in-person, to gain more knowledge and education so that I can pass it on to my client! A little about me...I have been married for 18 years. My husband and I have four children, all adopted through foster care. And we now have two precious granddaughters (my very favorite if I say so myself 😉) I would really love to meet you and your family. Please contact me for a free consultation so we can get to know one another and see if I would be the doula you desire!

Care philosophy

My love for moms and her family go back as far in my life as I can remember. I love that I can take my passion and turn it into a career. When you hire me, you will have all my support with my whole heart. I serve my clients through education, encouragement, honesty, and compassion. I am unbiased and non-judgmental. My goal is for you to have the best transition into adding to your family!

I found Courtney early in my pregnancy. She helped me switch providers to one that was more to my liking. She saved me so many pointless ER trips + answered all my questions efficiently and provided evidence based research with every answer. She calmed all my new mama nerves by helping inform me. I went to birth confidently in my power as a birthing women with her and my husband along my side and brought forth a beautiful baby boy, following my birth plan as much as possible and advocating for me in my fragile after birth state. She provided placenta services and continues to visit and help me 16 months postpartum. I consider her a genuine friend and she’s full of so much knowledge and love. I can confidently recommend her.

A postpartum doula in Norman, OK is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Norman, OK offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Norman, OK can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Norman, OK. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Norman, OK, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Norman, OK is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Norman, OK: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
