Geeta was such a wonderful overnight postpartum doula—we wished we had booked a much longer contract with her. She was so caring, meticulous and knowledgeable, from both her doula training and experience as a mother herself. Each night she arrived, we immediately felt calmer. As a first time mother, those first weeks postpartum were so challenging, but I felt seen and heard. Geeta provided gentle, helpful guidance on postpartum care, breastfeeding, baby care and soothing, and did everything with a calm confidence which was so reassuring to me as a first time mother (and as someone who had no experience with newborns or infants!). She was, importantly, wonderful with our newborn—every night we slept well knowing he was in great hands. Without Geeta, those first six weeks with our baby would have been overwhelming, and my recovery would have undoubtedly taken much longer (and not just because she helped us get more sleep!). We are so grateful for her support, and recommend her without reservation.

I usually say I accidentally fell into the field of birth work, but I guess that's not totally true. After spending a decade abroad running a foster home/cardiac surgery program for babies with complex congenital heart defects and maternal/fetal health programs for at-risk indigenous families, I unexpectedly found myself stuck in New York City in early 2020, waiting out this little bug called "Covid-19" that was shutting borders all around the world... I certified as a birth & postpartum doula in the USA in 2020, to be with my best friend for the birth of her first child in the midst of Covid protocols. I never could have imagined how much I would fall in love with birthwork here in the United States and it is the greatest honor to walk alongside families as they grow and change (in whatever capacity!), providing unbiased & judgment-free support, advocacy, guidance, and care during such intimate and pivotal moments.

Care philosophy

I’d be happy to chat more with you about the birth support you are looking for and what your hopes are for delivery. I love supporting all kinds and types of labor & deliveries - women (& their bodies!) are truly amazing. I believe that every birth is a beautiful birth as long as mama feels supported and empowered in every decision that she makes.

As first time parents, from the moment my husband and I decided to have Flávia as our Doula, we knew we would have someone special to guide us through our childbirth journey. Flávia’s dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment was evident from our initial consultation. She was also attentive to my husband’s feelings, ensuring him how important his role was in all moments. She made herself available to answer all our questions, we had a very informative session in which she provided us tools to deal with the labor/birthing experience, she watched some of my pelvic physical therapy sessions and was constantly checking on me.
She took the time to listen attentively to our preferences, ensuring that our birth plan was tailored to our unique desires.
Flávia’s warm presence in the delivery room helped us navigate the waves of labor with confidence. Her guidance with relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and pain management methods were incredibly helpful. I also need to mention that her being Brazilian (same as me) and able to speak Portuguese was soothing and very relaxing to me.
A few days after coming home she visited us, offering postpartum support that was both nurturing and practical. She connected me to a lactation consultant in her network and shared other resources.
We feel very grateful for having her presence and support during one of the most significant chapters of our lives and would strongly recommend her services.

I am a 25 year old with 13 years of experience care taking for children ages newborn to twelve years of age. I have plenty of experience working in a daycare, and then in a private elementary school once I became a certified K- 5 teacher. While I absolutely love teaching, being apart of an experience that brings in a new breath into the world is what I feel my real calling is. My services include everything surrounding high quality care for mama and family when needed the most.

My personal experience coupled with my work experience influenced me to dedicate myself to becoming a doula full time. My background in the healthcare industry and management of a private OB/GYN practice gives me more than 40 years of hands-on skills. Over these years I have been trusted by specialists, obstetricians, midwives, doulas, patients and clients and strive to always exceed expectations. My goal is to ensure each family receives the highest quality of care, professional services and personal satisfaction by empowering, supporting and educating families as they begin their journey of becoming parents to a new baby. Even when a new baby is not the first baby, families have made it clear to me that postpartum support has been a crucial necessity. I have extensive experience supporting a variety of family compositions, human milk feeding, formula feeding and combination feeding, premature infants, newborns with special needs, multiples, families with sibling care, as well as offering recommendations to support a parent experiencing postpartum anxiety and/or depression. For more than 15 years I’ve worked with families providing short and/or long-term support. While I provide both overnight and/or daytime support, I have extensive experience at introducing overnight guidance that leads to healthy growth, development and the process of teaching baby(ies) to fall asleep on their own. I am a certified, insured, CPR & 1st aid certified, compassionate, non-judgmental, seasoned doula and I am flexible, reliable and responsible.

Care philosophy

Each family I provided support to can tell you I am professional, non judgmental, compassionate, knowledgeable with the flexibility required to accommodate their individual needs. My philosophy for care has resulted in most families extending our time together. What a bittersweet feeling I experience each time I 'graduate' baby(ies) and their parent(s)!

I'm Ashley, a Afro-Dominican & Puerto Rican mother to a 14 year old boy, raised in Washington Heights but currently living in Harlem, NYC. A Certified Full Spectrum Doula and Lactation Counselor who's supporting over 25 families and counting. My passion for supporting families during this transformative time began when I experienced the birth of my own child. I realized the profound impact a skilled and compassionate doula can have on one's birthing experience. Although I wasn't able to have a doula at the time, I was able to use the knowledge gained about doulas and their work to achieve my own birth goals, which grew my interest and passion to become one years later. As a doula, I believe in creating a safe and nurturing space that allows parents to feel supported and make informed decisions during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. My approach is grounded in evidence-based research and is tailored to the needs of each family. I provide emotional, physical and advocacy support as well as evidence-based information and access to resources you may need to help encourage a positive and fulfilling birth and postpartum experience. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure families feel empowered and confident while creating the vision they desire for parenthood. I am committed to continuing my education and professional development to ensure that I am providing the most up-to-date and effective care possible. Whether you're planning a home birth, hospital birth, or a birth center delivery and/or you're just looking for postpartum support, I am here to support you every step of the way. Ashley was an instrumental part of my pregnancy and post-partum journey. Throughout my pregnancy, as my doula, Ashley offered me valuable information that allowed me to make decisions that aligned with how I wanted to carry out my pregnancy and birth. She was always readily available to answer the millions of questions I had, consistently offering factual answers and doing the research when necessary to provide me with the best care. Ashley’s warm nature and sincerity shine through making her a grounding presence, which was vital during my labor. The fact that she provided support during my labor virtually and was the most important voice for me in the room speaks volumes about her character and her gift as a doula. I experienced some complications post-birth and Ashley was able to travel to my home and provide immediate hands-on post-partum care for ten days. Without this care and her knowledge, as a single mother, I honestly do not know how I would have made it through those ten days. She was able to teach me how to breastfeed and taught me different tricks for handling a newborn while healing from a major surgery. Her dedication to bringing sacredness back into the birthing experience was and is the pillar of what has allowed me to say that my birthing experience, while different than what we planned, was still a powerful story and I am forever grateful for her.

Birth is the ultimate creative act. I offer my skills in trusting and following intuition, creatively thinking through situations, and being physically connected to the process to support the flow. I love getting to work with my hands in this setting: offering soothing touch, positional shifts and suggestions, and grounding pressure. Just as important are the realities of supporting folks logistically: I protect the intimate circle of labor by managing the rest of the activity as much as possible — making sure folks are fed, hydrated, and informed, and then getting out of the way. I know that being witnessed through this intensity makes a difference. The power of receiving a cool washcloth at the exact right moment is real! A good experience — for birthing person and baby — brings lasting positive shifts that extend outward.

I came to birth work with a professional history in both art and social work, with my immediate background in supporting young parents through housing insecurity and life transition (wellness, sobriety, education, employment). What inspires and sustains me as a doula is a commitment to village parenting— where we all hold the babies, all chip in resources, and thereby carve access to a freedom of being that surpasses baby & parent. I completed my training with Ancient Song Doula Services, an organization committed to serving people of color and addressing implicit bias & racism within healthcare systems through direct advocacy and community training. Ancient Song’s dedication to black maternal health and focus on full-spectrum services is what led me to the collective. I have experience working with first-time births, single parents-to-be, birthing people for whom English is their second language, undocumented individuals, and systems-involved families (ACS/CPS, foster care, criminal justice).

Care philosophy

My practice is rooted in the belief that community support can be an inherent part of how we conceive, grow, and raise our babies; that both conceiving and parenting are political & spiritual undertakings that are strengthened when our communities are present with us. My practice intentionally supports all bodies, all genders, and all family planning formations.

Night Nanny Services: FAQs

A night nanny is a trained professional that specializes in newborn care. They are known as “night nannies” because they arrive at night and offer their nannying services until the morning.

Night nannies are also known as newborn care specialists, which is often abbreviated as “NCS.” A night nanny usually works with new parents for 8-12 weeks after the baby is born. Night nannies are often also called “night nurses.”

It can be incredibly exhausting to sleep train new babies, and a night nanny is expected to sleep train babies. Night nannies can also educate and inform new parents on the best way to feed, bathe, sleep train, and swaddle their children. They are generally available for 8-12 hours during the night and provide nanny services during this time.

Many professional parents often hire overnight nannies in Manhattan, NY because they may work long hours. It might be extremely difficult for these parents to get enough sleep to remain productive, and a night nanny can help them begin sleeping properly. Meela can help you connect with a night nanny in Manhattan, NY today.

To find a night nanny in Manhattan, NY, most parents recommend creating a job post on Meela and having uniquely qualified night nannies near you (in your budget) reach out to you through the Meela app.

You can interview and chat with as many night nannies as you wish and hire a night nanny in Manhattan, NY with confidence. It is completely free to create a job post on Meela and find a night nanny. There are no commitments to hire any of the qualified and expert vetted night nannies Meela brings you.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: Answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated night nannies near you. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  2. Get your list of night nannies: In a few hours, you will have a collection of night nannies near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience, and read reviews. You can chat with each night nanny to learn more about them.
  3. Hire a night nanny with confidence: Schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top night nanny choices. Hire your top night nanny and start getting your family the care it deserves.

To find a night nanny, you can also browse the available night nannies near you in Manhattan, NY and read reviews, compare pricing, experience and fit. Send the night nannies you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend reaching out to and interviewing at least three overnight nannies before hiring a night nanny near you. After interviewing, hire the most qualified overnight nanny near you and start getting the care you deserve.

The cost of a night nanny can vary based on a variety of factors, including their experience, their services, and their skills or specializations. Overall, the average cost of a night nanny in Manhattan, NY is $25-40 per hour.

It should be noted that the price of a night nanny in Manhattan, NY will likely increase if the night nanny is contracted to deal with twins or multiple children. Also, a night nanny’s cost may depend on their level of education, the needs of the newborn, or their exact responsibilities for specific clients.

There are some situations in which your insurance company will help you cover the costs of childcare, and this can obviously help those parents that want their baby’s needs met but might not be as financially secure. Unfortunately, a night nanny usually isn’t covered by insurance.

However, there are some cases where a night nanny is covered by insurance. For example, if your child health issues, parents may want to check to see whether their night nanny costs can be covered by their insurance company since their role is more directly related to your child’s health.

There are many situations in which parents might consider a night nanny in Manhattan, NY. First, both parents might be working long hours, which means that neither of them have the time to actually bathe/feed/swaddle the child when necessary. Some parents might already rely on friends and family, but realize that they require more help when it comes to their children.

A night nanny is also often most necessary in situations where there are twins or triplets. These parents simply may need extra help to care for these children night after night, and night nannies can help take over some of the workload. For first-time parents, for example, having to care for multiple children for the first time can be overwhelming and stressful. Other parents might also be dealing with mental health issues or postpartum depression.

A night nanny is expected to care for the baby as the parent would if they were awake. Night nannies wash baby bottles, prepare feeds, sterilize pump equipment, and more. Overnight nannies also bathe, feed, diaper, and swaddle the baby, as well. A night nanny can also provide care in situations where the mother might be recovering from a C-section, for example.

In many cases, the process is simple: a parent often hands off their baby to their night nanny so that they can get some much-needed sleep. The night nanny remains at the household until the parent(s) wake up, and then night nannies leave once the parents can take over child care duties.

Every family’s needs are different, but night nannies are expected to burp the baby, bathe the baby, prepare formula, and provide other nanny duties. In summary, overnight nannies in Manhattan, NY are expected to keep the baby fed, comfortable, clean, rested, and dry.

However, night nannies are not expected to complete household chores that are unrelated to baby care. It’s also important to note that a night nanny in Manhattan, NY will obviously need to get their rest, as well – so bedding must be provided. A night nanny typically sleeps once the baby is already resting and their nanny chores are complete.

A night nanny can often help parents with emotional support or provide extra help for a sick child. An overnight nanny in Manhattan, NY can help reduce stress and anxiety for many new parents who might have issues with their work-life balance.

One of the most obvious differentiators in the world of night nannies in Manhattan, NY is the fact that a night nanny might have specific experience with children of a specific age. Some night nannies might have certifications such as nursing certifications or sleep certifications. Many night nannies are often involved for the first six weeks of childbirth, and some of them remain with parents for months.

For example, some night nannies might have specialized skills for children aged 1-2, while others may be more experienced with children aged 3-4. Obviously, the responsibilities of these night nannies in Manhattan, NY differ depending on the age of the children that they are supervising.

Some night nannies might be CPR-certified or first-aid certified, which can give more peace of mind to parents who might be concerned about potential sleep or breathing issues. Other overnight nannies might specialize in newborns that have colic or reflux issues, as well.

There are some overnight nannies in Manhattan, NY that might be open to caring for your child while you are traveling out of town, while other nannies might not be available for that amount of time. There is no certification required to become a night nanny in Manhattan, NY. However, some night nannies choose to become newborn care specialists, and undergo NCS training.

There are some families that try to compare the concept of a “night nanny” to an “overnight babysitter.” The main difference here involves the level of commitment that a night nanny has to a newborn, versus a babysitter that may only have to provide minimal care to a newborn or child.

A babysitter is often not responsible for actually creating/fixing meals for newborns, washing their baby bottles, or doing their laundry. While a babysitter might monitor a newborn or make sure that they are safe – a nanny might spend time soothing a newborn, swaddling them, or taking care of their meals and clothes. A nanny has more obligations than a babysitter, and are considered more of an “extension” of the parents.
