    Practice overview

When I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to grow up to be a mommy! In my early 20s, I would spend HOURS reading birth stories and watching videos on childbirth! I got my first experience of what it was like to be a doula when I had the honor of witnessing and supporting my sister during her two births. It wasn't until my thirties that I would learn what a doula was and put a name to what I loved! The very first day of my doula training class in 2016, I felt I had finally come home and found my passion and calling: educating, supporting and encouraging women during their births and beyond! Birth is just the beginning of Parenthood! Over the years, I have had the pleasure of helping women and couples by offering advice and options during their pregnancies, encouraging them in their new roles as mothers by offering advice and tips in baby care, breastfeeding and more. Oftentimes, just the encouragement that she is doing a great job is what a mom needs to hear most! Pregnancy can be HARD! Parenting is HARD! Having someone in your life who is there to listen, encourage and educate is so invaluable. I love to see a mom's face light up just by reminding her that she is doing a great job as she learns a new position to hold her baby while feeding or learning how to comfort her baby who is having a hard time adjusting to a routine. I love to see a mom's face light up when she found the courage within her to know her birth options and get the care and birth she desires. I love being a doula and I would be honored to be yours.

    Care philosophy

My desire is that every woman that I serve can look back at her birth and say, "I love how my birth story turned out." I believe that your birth is your story, and I am here to support you in your journey. I love Jesus Christ as my Saviour and I strive to be the hands and feet of Him in my doula business.

“Shannon was the best addition to our birth team. She took her time to get to know our family during my pregnancy, and made sure everyone felt involved and included.
When I called with any questions, she responded immediately and could always put my mind at ease.
The night of my birth, I gave her a very short notice that the baby was coming, and she still made it to the hospital before me. She stayed by my side and spoke up for me anytime I felt too nervous to speak for myself. She had a very calming presence, never over stepping. She supported any choice I made, weather or not it was the same choice she would have made, all while making me feel like I was the best momma in the world. I hope to use her again!”

Shannon has a true gift as a doula. She was an amazing support to myself and my family. I was able to achieve a natural delivery due to her knowledge and tenderness. She has a true heart for her clients. She was calm and encouraging when things got a little stressful and her presence provided a peace in a scary situation when we couldn’t locate a heart beat. She was and is a blessing to us and we will be forever grateful that she was a part of our baby’s birth. She made a very special day even more special by being there.

I am a current VBAC client of Shannon’s (due any day now!). I chose Shannon as my doula over 12+ other highly qualified candidates. In our initial interview, I was impressed with how natural and comfortable our conversation was. Post interview she was the only candidate who followed up with helpful resources and recommendations. She even went the extra mile and shared samples of questions she would ask me in our prenatal appointments. All of this before I even asked to see a contract! Shannon has been nothing but generous, empathetic, and entirely respectful of me, my partner, my birth history/plans/goals, and my provider. I have also appreciated Shannon’s counseling background and I believe it gives her a depth and unique tool set beyond just the title “doula.” Shannon is responsive and a great resource, but she has never once pressured me with her opinion or made my decisions for me. I truly feel like this pregnancy and upcoming birth is uniquely mine and my baby’s and her support is a major part of our story.

My husband and I decided to hire a birth doula for many reasons: we realized midwives are the clinical and medical support, but we wanted the physical and emotional support provided by a doula at our daughter’s birth vs medical support of a midwife. This was our personal choice as being first-time parents we wanted to be at a hospital. Shannon was so professional, and the level of information she offered and gave, just even at our first meeting made us choose her. In the weeks prior to my due date, Shannon focused on fully explaining how the birth could go, it helped me really visualize what I would be going through. I was prepared and knew what to expect – I knew what my body would be doing and what would be normal in the weeks leading up to it and during. She even offered to coach with my husband so he could support me better as well. I was preparing for a natural birth and I really wanted and needed to understand my body to do it. She answered questions anytime I thought of anything I felt concerned about or needed to understand more on. She made it feel like we were having her available 24/7 to text or call with any random questions, this was very valuable. For first-time parents going into an unknown situation- she helped us go into it with ease and made it so incredibly pleasant with her thorough knowledge, kindness, compassion, and friendliness
