Nicki A. | Doula in Spokane, WA

Birth and Beyond Doula Services

    Practice overview

I always knew I wanted to help support pregnant people have their babies, I just never realized that being a doula was an optimal way to do that. By providing resources, emotional support, and helping you to know your options and then advocate for you (when needed), it is my hope that your labor and delivery go as you want them to go. The pandemic made me realize that there are so many people who need to be supported during this special time of life and that it was exactly what I needed to be doing, helping them. I've been a caregiver of the elderly for 18 years and I am so excited to be on this path now, helping birth families with the birth of their babies and to then nurture them into the postpartum period.

From the get-go, she was SUPER supportive of my decision and excited to take me on as a client. You could tell she really cared. She was always quick to communicate with me and she really took the time to sit down and get a good picture of the support I was really needing and wanting. These boys were my 3rd and 4th kids. I previously had two successful vaginal births. I was not worried more about her being there for me, more than I was her helping my boyfriend support me, as these are his first two kids. She made sure to put that top of her list as it was the most important to me. I really appreciate Nikki because she also communicated with the hospital to set up special permissions to make sure she could be there to support us during this crazy Covid time. Because I was having twins, I had to give birth in the OR just in case my vaginal birth went sideways. I went into pre-term labor at 32 weeks. Nikki was right there to support me through that. She was also there for the 12 days I managed to keep them inside. My water broke at 34+5 and Nikki met us at the hospital just in time. My birth start to finish was only 3 hours. She was able to be in the Or with us and supported me through my whole unmedicated vaginal birth. Nikki read my cues and knew how to support me without me having to tell her. She also helped give me the strength and encouragement I needed after laboring down once my first son was born, to keep going and push out my other son.

was 7 months pregnant. She made my husband and I feel comfortable with her approach to the process, knowledge and eagerness to help. She was a great resource for any question I had leading up birth and with encouragement as I encountered things along the way. When it came to the labor and delivery, she was a huge help to me with positive energy and reinforcement of my wishes. My husband was very grateful for her active support (arm relief) while I needed counter pressure on my back every contraction! The post partum visits were very nice to chat about the delivery process, check in on my recovery, and have an extra set of hands to help with baby for a bit. She is also very thoughtful and would come with surprises she knew I liked! I highly recommend hiring her.

Nicole was caring compassionate and really present throughput the entire experience. I was induced so there was a lot of early time that Nicole was there to support me even before true labor started. I never felt rushed or like i was wasting her time. She was really great
