Hi all, I am a mom of three. My most top question people ask is How was my birth experiences? I've got to experience three very different births. My first baby was a Cesarean birth. My second was a VBAC and the third was preterm born via Vaginal. So, there you have it. Every birth has it very unique birthing story. The body does what it wants. I have been a Certified Labor Doula for over a year now. It has been absolutely amazing to support and help other women. I am currently in school working on RN degree to advance my career in the birthing field. I first began my journey attending my sister's birth back in 2017.I was able to witness and support her in ways that I didn't think was possible. Helping women be an advocate for themselves is so important to me.

Care philosophy

My birthing philosophy is every birth has it very own unique story. I believe birth should be exciting and not fearful. Every women birth preference is different. Follow me on IG and FB @Gifteddoulallc

Madhu was such an asset to my birth support team! From the first time I met her, she thoroughly listened to mine and my partners wants and needs and supported me the entire time. Having her as my doula really helped me have the birth I dreamed of. At every meeting, my partner and I learned something new and how to prepare for the arrival of our baby. So when the time came, we felt well equipped and prepared to stick to my birth plan. She provided us with comfort measures, information to make our own decisions, and most importantly peace of mind. I definitely recommend having Made as your doula!

My birth Doula package includes two prenatal meetings in the clients home, unlimited text, email, phone calls, on call from the time I’m hired and join you in labor when you need me. I meet you at your home or the hospital and stay with you throughout your entire labor and an hour or two afterwards. I help get breast-feeding started if that is your wish and I document your birth story. I call or text 24 hours later and one week later I come for your postpartum at your home with a journal of the birth.

Care philosophy

I received my education through DONA International and started working as a birth Doula in 2012. I believe that education is key in pregnancy and teaching you how to advocate for yourself. Knowledge is power. I love what I do and I count it a privilege to serve families during one of the most important times of their lives.

I am very excited to be able to offer doula care to those families looking for the one-on-one support that they deserve! I am Mom to 5 grown children of my own and Memaw to 4 grandchildren so far! I have always had a passion for the childbirth process and everything having to do with babies. Over the years I have supported my oldest daughter with her 3 boys, my sister with her daughter, and most recently my middle daughter with her son, so even though I've only been officially certified for a year, I have lots of experience in the field! Last year I finally took the step to become certified when my daughter became pregnant with her first baby and we found out that due to Covid-19 restrictions, only her husband and a certified doula would be allowed to be present at the hospital. I took this as a sign that it was time to follow my heart and finally get myself certified as a birth doula so that I can help others to have a positive experience, too. At this time, I am offering childbirth doula services virtually and in-person to give you the flexibility needed in today's changing world.

Care philosophy

I am committed to providing loving and nonjudgmental support and education, individually catered to your family's wants and needs during this exciting time! I truly believe that having the proper knowledge and tools ahead of time makes a world of difference in ensuring a positive birth experience.

Sabrina Lewis

My name is Sabrina Lewis, I am a married mother of four and live in Harrisburg, NC. I became a doula because I have been through several difficult situations in childbirth: Pre-term labor with four separate pregnancies, C-Sections, VBACs, and delivered two babies that have passed away in my second trimester. Through my experiences, I wished that I had someone with me who could answer questions and bring me more emotional and physical comfort. When I learned what a doula was, I instantly wanted to become one. I have a passion for assisting women in having the best experience possible through an empowering and hard situation. I am a certified birth doula through the International Doula Institute and have been attending births in the Charlotte area for over five years. I witnessed my first birth fifteen years ago and have never looked back. I am a firm believer that the mother, her support persons, medical staff, and doula are a team. It is the doula’s job to provide emotional/physical support to the mother, her partner (if she has one), and support persons, help with the physical comfort throughout the labor, while also having a working knowledge of the birth process and common practices. She uses her knowledge and experience to help the mother have a positive outlook on the process and have confidence in themselves and what they are capable of. It is also their responsibility to work in a positive manner with the medical staff, (doctor’s, midwives, and nurses) so that all have the best possible attitude and outlook for the delivery. I am knowledgeable in several birth methods including: Bradley method, HypnoBirthing, Hypnobabies and Kopa Birth. I have experience as a doula with birth centers, hospital deliveries, home births (attended by midwives), natural births, epidurals, VBACs, multiples, preterm birth, c-sections, advanced maternal age, vacuum deliveries, forceps delivery, placenta encapsulation and Bereavement Delivery. My Birth Doula Services: Prenatal Visits and Support (I am available throughout the pregnancy) Labor and Birth Services (for any delivery method or situation) Birth Photography Novant Credentialed Vendor Doula Breastfeeding Support: will stay 1-2 hours after delivery until the mother is comfortable and feeding (breast or bottle) is established 1-2 Postnatal Visits Placenta Encapsulation Postpartum Services Mental Health Support: specifically anxiety in pregnancy and labor, previous birth trauma, previous pregnancy loss Bereavement Doula Services (free of charge) Why I became a Birth Doula? I have always loved the birth process and the strength that we, as women, possess. As I began having my own children, I experienced a lot of trauma and trivialization of my emotions/difficulties during pregnancy and delivery. I found an amazing OB/GYN in Charlotte that was kind, listened to me, and gave me the information I needed to feel empowered. After my third child, I had two, back-to-back, second trimester losses where I had to deliver my babies. Both times, I was alone with my husband and mother when the delivery occurred in the hospital. It was in those moments of heartbreak that I decided I would do anything in my power to ensure that no woman would have to go through the same situation alone. I am committed to helping women and families have the births they’ve always dreamed of, no matter their situation. Who would I be a great fit for as a Birth Doula? I would be a great fit for first time mothers, anyone with a history of anxiety or mental health issues, previous birth trauma, previous loss, and anyone looking for a well-informed advocate. I have never met a stranger and treat everyone as family. Birth Photography: All images on my website were taken by me, I have 14 years of photography experience, the last 5 of which has been focused on birth photography.

Care philosophy

Every birth is unique and magical, whether it takes place at a birth center, hospital or at home, Each is beautiful and deserving of celebration. Sabrina had attended my last two natural births as our doula, and will be our doula again in a few weeks for a third birth. She is highly competent and understands how to use labor positions to help speed up labor, encourage dilation and promote comfort. She works well with the hospital staff and understands hospital procedures. She’s entirely respectful of my husbands role in the room, and supports him as he supports me. She’s also funny and easy to relate to, as well as kind and professional. In addition to providing labor support, she’s taken amazing birth photographs that I treasure. I highly recommend Sabrina as a doula.

When I say that God placed Doula work in my path, I truly mean it. I graduated from Millersville University with my Bachelor's in Social Work, so helping my community has always been a passion of mine. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Diversifying Doulas was an amazing program created through an organization called Patients R Waiting, that fully funded women of color in Lancaster, PA to become Doulas for FREE, as well as serve pregnant women of color in the community for free with our services, funded through Patients R Waiting! I happened to be scrolling on Facebook, I came across the program, and the rest was fate. Since then, I am now a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, and I am currently working towards my official DONA certification. With my background in Social Work and my deep empathy for advocating for women, becoming a Doula has been nothing short of empowering and amazing. Now, I aspire to share my newfound knowledge of the strength of women, as well as how to cope with labor, birth, and postpartum to help women experience pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with confidence and support.

Care philosophy

I am so passionate about informed consent, and helping my mamas to be understand their options during labor and birth to create a birth plan, help mamas understand their bodies through comfort measures and understanding labor, as well as empowering mamas to advocate for their baby, their body, and their birth. I hope through my services to help educate, empower, and inform!

Sarah is an amazing doula. She was so present, calm, comforting, and just all around a joy to be with. She made my labor and delivery feel incredibly safe and as enjoyable as possible. In the toughest moments she never wavered. She helped me find more comfortable positions and went wherever I felt I needed to be. She laughed with me, encouraged me and supported me through everything. She was PERFECT and Pregnant herself and not once did that take away or distract from my experience! If you are pregnant, I highly recommend Sarah!

As a nurse, I believe in evidence-based information, so that a birthing person can make the best-informed decisions for themselves and their family. Support should be unbiased and unconditional. I became a doula because I found that there is a large need for birthing people to be their own empowered advocates during births. There is also a need for support during labor, in which the nursing staff no longer provides (25% of nurses time is actually patient care.) When hiring us, you will have 2 birth doulas, who work in a partnership to ensure you have care continuity.

Care philosophy

(You can find us at www.dauphincountydoulas.com) "Empower. Inform. Support." Be informed about your options and fully supported, so you can be empowered at your birth. We provide birth and postpartum doula services to expecting parents. Whether first time or fifth time parents, whether birthing in a hospital or attended at home, whether single or multiples, we will provide services.

My calling to this life began after a very difficult and traumatic birth of my first baby. I knew it was wrong and I knew if I had someone there for me, it would have been okay. I knew I was being called to be that someone for others. I focus on relaxation techniques as well as focusing on the birthing partner to help me best support my clients. My trainings are in fertility, pregnancy, birth, bereavement, rebozo, relaxation, placenta, and so many more. I truly believe every birth, regardless of where or how, can be beautiful. I am a full spectrum birthkeeper and member of the LGBTQ community. I support any and all families, POC, IVF, lgbtq, stillbirth, abortion, etc

Care philosophy

My philosophy is that pregnancy, labor, and birth are as much mental as they are physical. No two experiences will ever be the same, but my ability to adapt to each family’s needs is what my families appreciate most.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Lancaster, PA.

You can browse through the available doulas in Lancaster, PA and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Lancaster, PA in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Lancaster, PA. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Lancaster, PA doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, you can expect the average cost of a doula in Lancaster, PA to be $853, which is the average cost of a doula in the state of Pennsylvania. The cost of a doula in Lancaster, PA can range from $667 to $1,039. These costs are based on a representative group of 282 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of Pennsylvania. The average cost of a doula in Pennsylvania is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Lancaster, PA, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Lancaster, PA: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Lancaster, PA, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Lancaster, PA can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Lancaster, PA does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Lancaster, PA will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Lancaster, PA can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Lancaster, PA; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
