My journey to birth work sparked after my first son. Even though my earliest memories are of making formula bottles for my siblings or assisting in diaper changes at the age of five. The real fire wasn't ignited until I had gone through my own pregnancies and births. When I became pregnant, I found myself in an unknown world navigating the typical path of maternity care. Dismissed by my healthcare providers and a hospital stay where I felt belittled, my voice silenced and almost every staff member that attended me were condescending and made me feel inadequate as a first-time mother. Throughout the years, I quickly realized I wasn't the only one who felt like there was a gap in compassionate reproductive care and there must be a better way to birth. Since then, I built Maternal Affinity Birth Services and my life has been all about pregnancy, birth, postpartum support, advocacy and unity ever since. Your pregnancy, your birth and the postpartum period (however long that may be for you) are the foundation of a lifelong journey. It is vital to care and nourish the new person, transitioning into postpartum who has also just been birthed. Whether this is education on a plethora of topics under the birth spectrum or continuous support and encouragement, a hand to hold to know you are not alone; or an open mind and ears to validate your emotions throughout the sea of parenthood. You do not have to cross these waters by yourself. No one should be without support. I am here to uplift you during your birth and postpartum journey. You are not alone. I will meet you in the middle, wherever that may be. I will hold space for unconditional love and healing. I am a resource of unbiased, evidence-based information. As a certified birth & bereavement doula, full-spectrum doula, evidence based birth instructor, infant microbiome instructor and lactation educator, I bring my knowledge, trainings, experience and open heart to the fullest extent with my families. You have a voice, let me help uplift it. The vibrations will break barriers. And no matter what, your birth story is yours to write.

Care philosophy

I provide postpartum support for the that ensures everyone is empowered, healing, bonding and well-rested all with the ease that your needs, wants and goals are in qualified hands. My support mirrors your unique family goals and needs while providing culturally aware and trauma informed support that extends to the entire family.

Adisela was the best thing to happen to our family! I had a rough birth and she came in the night after we were discharged from the hospital. We are first time parents and had no idea what to expect. Adisela educated us on newborn development and even helped our baby sleep through the night. She guided my partner and I while I went through postpartum anxiety and was there for every question and always validated how I was feeling. Her sitz bath blend she gifted me was amazing and she knows a lot about healing after birth. I wish I could give her 10 stars!! Recommending her postpartum doula support to every mama I know

My name is Samantha, but you can call me Sammy. Originally, I set out to become a midwife. One of my favorite shows growing up was "The Cosby Show," I liked the profession that Dr. Huxtable worked in. I thought it was simple: you get a pregnant client, deliver their baby, and 1,2,3 send them on their way. Wrong. As I grew older and listened/ read stories about different childbirth and postpartum experiences, I realized that there was an abundant amount of fear and misery regarding pregnancy and childbirth. So, I also chose to dive into becoming a doula so that these families can get the advocation, care, and compassion that they deserve/ need in and out of the birthing room. Not only do I want to help their, but I also want to help the family adapt to bringing baby home.

Care philosophy

"It takes a village" - it takes a community to nurture and successfully raise a child. It's okay to ask for help, and I'd love to be that for you. As I always say, "Your Sigh of Relief is Only One Call Away."

My goal is to provide nurturing care so you can heal and recover from the birth experience and bond with your baby. Support can look very different to families as needs change. I provide both emotional and physical support. Emotional support can be a listening ear so you feel honored, protected and replenished, providing positive reinforcement & reassurance, providing evidence-based informational support, gentle education and referrals when needed. Physical support can be light meal prep or full meal support, breast or bottle feeding support, newborn care, baby bonding, baby wearing & sleep support, light housekeeping, baby laundry, and sibling care.

Care philosophy

My goal is to take care of the mother so that they can take care of the baby. The 4th trimester is full of joy and excitement but can also feel overwhelming and be a challenging transition time. I would love to help you adjust to your new role by providing physical and emotional support.

I have spent the past 10 years mentoring college students and helping them navigate a significant transition in their lives. I've always been interested in the healthcare field though, and when I learned about doulas I saw a great possibility of continuing to help people navigate transition and providing wholistic support to them. I went through full spectrum doula training last year and am looking forward to serving people as a birth and postpartum doula! I work with a non-profit organization so I am able to provide support to people without cost. All people deserve compassionate care and I look forward to working with anyone who may be interested in doula support but is unable to cover the cost. In the spiritual world, the river represents sweetness, fertility, love, abundance, and all the joys that life has to offer. The ocean represents motherhood, nurturing energy, and our connection to the earth. Humans are made of 70% water, so our connection to water is extremely important. Without water, there is no life force on earth, so here in our business, we represent all that life encompasses, from fertility and the moment of conception to parenthood and knowledge. We also support water births and Dani is studying water births, their positive effects on the birthing process, and connecting clients to their divine energies through the use of water. Lastly, Dani's guardian angels are well-known ocean and river guardians. As a tribute to them, the company is named Two Waters.

Care philosophy

Two Waters advocates for clients on a micro, mezzo, and macro level, empowering them to choose what is best for them and their baby.

As a birth worker, My care experience is limited due to previous work within the military. Since switching back to civilian life, my passion and focus on the birth world have taken the center of my life. In 2020, I leaped into faith and began a hybrid program through Jenny Joseph's "Common sense-birth" towards becoming a Licensed Midwife! I provide care from the beginning stages of pregnancy; this includes getting to know you, your family, and your partner on a personal level before birth. My care includes two doulas' during the second prenatal visit so that you're familiar with both myself and my backup doula. Attending your prenatal appointment to meet with your midwife before the big day is essential to supporting your desired birth outcome. I help properly prepare for postpartum care, from meal prep, light housework, organization, sibling care, and traditional birth celebration ceremonies. During the first 24 hours post-delivery, I will honor you with a "victory meal" either prepared by me (menu to be provided) or preferred meal pick up. Two check-ins during the first 72 hours and 4 weeks later. This is to asset moods, changes, and if more help or further support may be needed. Referrals and resources to be provided.

Care philosophy

My care philosophy is "Bringing traditions back to birth and healing." I am a believer in honoring traditions through prenatal and postpartum care. As an Afro-Indigenous woman, my birth work is rooted in ancestral practices and my goal is to remind my clients, you too, are here thanks to those who came before you. My care is limited to BIPOC only.

I got started in birth work after the birth of my second daughter. I had an amazing water birth at a birthing center with the support of my best friend (in the capacity of birth support) and my boyfriend. My experience was so incredible that I want every mother to experience what I did (or as close as possible). My goal is for each mother supported to have exactly the experience they want.

Care philosophy

Women deserved to be worshipped before, during, and after birth in whatever way they need to be. My goal is to support a mother in whatever fashion she needs by providing unlimited support and resources.I believe in the natural process of birth and supporting it and would like every mother to experience the beauty that birth can be, free from the interventions of the medical institution.

I started my doula business after the birth of my son. I was transferred from home to hospital, and it was absolutely not the birth I was expecting, nor desiring, and after being abandoned by my midwife, I felt scared, alone, and did not know my options at all. My son whose birth inspired my business, will be 5 this year. I went on to have a surrogate birth of twins, and discovered the realm of high-risk and multiples birth and my passion just grew and grew. I now train other doulas and commit my life to fertility, prenatal, birth and postpartum education, because education IS power. I support all the way from pre-conception to a year postpartum and offer several different package options.

Care philosophy

It is important to me that a birthing person feels safe in their birth space, wherever that may be. My priority is to keep them informed, confident, and feeling safe, during all times of their birth, whether that be completely unassisted, or an elected cesarean, all mamas deserve CHOICE and SAFETY. Autonomy is my philosophy.

A postpartum doula in Lakeland, FL is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Lakeland, FL offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Lakeland, FL can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Lakeland, FL. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Lakeland, FL, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Lakeland, FL is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Lakeland, FL: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
