I love being a doula. In fact when my friends and family hear that I have studied to be a certified doula, they smile and say, you will make a great doula. why? because I have that positive loving energy that makes everyone feel at ease. They also say that I have a take charge personality when I need to step up. I always get the job done. Maybe that's true because for the last 15 years I have worked as a health care consultant project manager. I understand healthcare from many different levels. I bring that professionalism to my work as a doula.

Care philosophy

Everyone may be able to share their birth experience, but yours is a unique experience. I want to provide you with the tools you need to have the experience you most want for yourself and for your family. We can build it together.

Hello everyone, my name is Tanisha and I am Charlotte, NC based prenatal, perinatal and postpartum doula. I provide care for all families, including LGBT, surrogate/adoption, single mothers, young mothers and BIPOC. I decided to become a doula after working in healthcare and becoming a mother myself. I have had two children- one in Germany and one here in the US. Seeing the differences in the health care system and how mothers are being provided for made me want to step up and provided support. I have personally had a cesarean and vaginal birth and can understand the nerve behind both experiences. Feel free to reach out to me to see if I am good fit for you and what you are looking for.

I came into birth work in 2018, I have always wanted to support pregnant people and think that being a witness to birth is one of the greatest gifts of life. Before birth work, I was a preschool teacher for a number of years. My doula services are evidence based and I make sure my clients are supported throughout their pregnancy and postpartum. I provide postpartum services as well as birth doula services. I have been trained in the Rebozo technique to provide pain management throughout the labor process. Aside from the Rebozo I also have been trained in trauma informed care and provide support for pregnancy and infant loss. I am intuitive and nurturing and that shows through my support I give each client.

Care philosophy

Empowering and educating pregnant people through my nurturing and evidence based resources. I believe that feeling supported and having all the information during your pregnancy and labor is an important role that I, as a doula, will provide. Whichever way you decide to labor I will be there to hold the space and make sure you feel empowered, supported, and confident.

I had the privilege of having Zelle as a doula with my agency, Redwood Doulas, and as my birth partner with clients. She is warm, compassionate, knowledgeable, funny, and has a calm about her that soothes clients and babies. She is wonderful at attuning to a client and anticipating their needs, is a wonderful cook, and became a trusted member of the family for each of the clients she worked with. I can’t fully express how impressed I am at her skillset in supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Hire her, you will not be disappointed.

www.wavewithinstudio.com Because I was born in a different country, when I became pregnant for the first time in 2016, I found myself very curious about the USA laboring and birthing system, and had many questions needing answers. What is a low/high risk pregnancy? What is a natural birth? What is the c-section rate in my state? Who are the care providers that will support me in the birth I desire to have? How can my partner be involved and supportive? What is baby blues? Is breastfeeding important? I could never get enough information about my body and baby! But becoming a mother is like being on a rollercoaster of emotions and information... It can be overwhelming. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful doula by my side for both of my births, who was a great resource, and inspired me to believe in myself and trust my body. I became a Licensed Pre and Post Natal Exercise Trainer in 2019 (GYROTONIC® Method) to help women prepare their body for birth and recovery. During the pandemic, when isolation hit and help was needed the most, I started more intentionally to support women in their journey through pregnancies and births. Feeling a connection and trusting your doula to be by your side along the path that your birth takes is most important. I am here to guide and serve parents navigate through a life-changing experience.

Care philosophy

I wish for you to feel heard, educated, dignified and powerful. I am a resource for you and your needs. I am here to help you find your voice, reflect it, and support you in the birth you wish to have. The more confident you are about the choices you make, the more powerful you feel about your birthing and parenting experience. I respect you and your choices, I am here to serve you.

Pauline is incredible. She supported us for the birth of our 3rd child and we were so pleased with the experience. Pauline is knowledgeable, patient, and extremely talented at hands-on physical support during labor. It was amazing to have both my husband and Pauline helping me through contractions. I chose not to have an epidural and truly would not have been able to have the birth we wanted without Pauline’s support. She has a calming presence and helped me feel at ease during a very intense labor. My husband really appreciated her support to him on how to best help me in the moment. I also looked to Pauline for recommendations for local lactation consultants, photographers, and postpartum doulas. We cannot recommend her enough, whether this is your first baby or third.

I believe birth is an extremely important part of a woman's life. Her experience can cause trauma or it can be empowering. When she feels safe and loved and her voice is heard she will feel like she can do anything! My desire as a birth doula is to guide my clients into acheiving the birth they want through informed consent. Birth is very unpredictable but learning how to nagivate your choices and owning those choices helps you feel in control, even when things don't go as planned.

Care philosophy

Women's bodies were created for growing and birthing babies. I believe in supporting normal physiological childbirth when possible. Women are capable of birthing their baby their way with little intervention from others. I believe in allowing a woman to trust her own intuition and let nature take over.

I became a doula to help mothers have a great birth experience, I am a new doula I obtained my birth doula certification and breastfeeding certification in March 2021. I'm here to offer a great experience to mothers and their husbands/partners in the birth of their babies. As your doula, I'm here for you and only want the best I will not make decisions for you but I'm here to guide you to the right decision for you and your birth plan. I hope to be able to experience this new journey with you.

Care philosophy

As your Doula, I'm here to provide mental and physical support before, during, and after labor. The medical staff cannot provide 24 hours support laboring mothers need and sometimes the husband/partner doesn't know what to do. I'm here to educate and teach different methods to minimize pain and give you 24-hour support until your baby is safely delivered.

www.thestatesvilledoula.com My passion for birth work began after the somewhat traumatic birth of my oldest in 2010. I left that birth with what I had believed to be empowerment but soon after, realized the empowerment I felt was based off of my consistently advocating for and defending myself in the birth space. I realized we shouldn't HAVE to fight for how we want to birth in order to feel a false sense of empowerment. Once I had this epiphany, I felt in my heart of hearts that I never wanted another birthing person to have to jump through hurdles to have the birth they desire. Now, I support all birthing people and their families through this journey called birth and I ABSOLUTELY respect and honor the process and the family. I finally went on to have two more completely healing water births and actually base the healing on becoming informed after my first birth. The well known quote "Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life," is my mantra. I love what I do, I love the people I meet, and I am humbled and honored to witness families being born or growing. In 2010, after the birth of my oldest daughter, I signed up with DONA as a birth doula. Since then, I have constantly immersed myself in all things pregnancy and birth. Once I moved to North Carolina, I decided that I needed a more inclusive and comprehensive training and decided to train through Bebo Mia, a Canadian based doula training agency. Through them, I grew as a person and as a doula and truly feel as though I am able to provide COMPLETELY unbiased and evidence based care and research to each and every person and family I meet. At the same time, I trained and certified as a placenta specialist through IPPA, International Placenta and Postpartum Association. Recently, I became certified as a stillbirthday birth and bereavement doula offering bereavement services and support to those who experience a loss in any trimester of their pregnancy. Lastly (but not least), I am a trained Hypnobabies® Hypno-Doula supporting families who choose hypnosis for childbirth.

Care philosophy

www.thestatesvilledoula.com I am a strong believer in birthers, babies and the inherent wisdom and instinctual capabilities within all of us to give birth in the way that suits us best. I believe in birth and I believe in support during birth. You know how best to birth your baby, whether it be via cesarean birth, vaginal birth, water birth, or fully medicated birth and I am here to support you.

With Covid visitor restrictions, I knew my husband and I needed additional support for our birth. Due to Staci being a verified doula through our local hospital system, she was able to attend in person. It was an amazing experience. She not only supported me, she supported my husband in the ways he needed. Her presence helped me to have a calm and successful VBAC. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for support!

My husband and I hired Heidi soon after finding out we were pregnant, and she was of immense help and support through the pregnancy. She has a wealth of knowledge and a generosity of spirit that provided comfort especially in the time of Covid. She is well connected in the birthing community – quick to connect you with the best midwives, chiropractors, and fellow mamas. She kept me grounded as we handled a potential high-risk pregnancy diagnosis and then a breech baby, offering emotional support and resources to navigate both of these situations. Heidi’s presence in our birth space is indescribable – she provided knowledge as we maneuvered through the medical institution, was another voice in the room advocating for our birth wishes, another set of hands to help through the pain of an unmedicated birth, and another person that loved on me, my husband, and our baby girl postpartum. I cannot imagine our pregnancy and birth experience without her, and we can’t wait to welcome her into our birth space for baby #2!

Birth is a big deal. It's an event that I rank up with weddings. But, sometimes pregnancy can be forgotten in preparation for the big day. I want to help you find the happy medium between preparing, and just enjoying where you are. I offer 2-3 in person prenatal meetings, as well as unlimited phone and email support starting from when we're officially contracted. This allows me to answer questions, listen to your concerns, and talk about solutions without making you feel like it's just one more thing you have to do. I know that the last thing you need is another appointment, which is why prenatal meetings take place in your home. Your bigger kids are welcome to hang out. I like make it feel more like you're hanging out with a friend. At the birth, I join you from active labor until you and your baby are together and have settled down. I'll offer physical support, help with position change ideas, and work with your partner to help you have a positive birth experience.

Care philosophy

Pregnancy can be so hard. My goal is to take what I can off your plate, and hold your hand while you prepare to bring your newest family member into the world. From helping write your birth plan and sending you information on your questions to teaching you comfort measures, I want to make your life easier.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Kannapolis, NC.

You can browse through the available doulas in Kannapolis, NC and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Kannapolis, NC in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Kannapolis, NC. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Kannapolis, NC doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, you can expect the average cost of a doula in Kannapolis, NC to be $854, which is the average cost of a doula in the state of North Carolina. The cost of a doula in Kannapolis, NC can range from $690 to $1,019. These costs are based on a representative group of 96 doulas surveyed by Meela across the state of North Carolina. The average cost of a doula in North Carolina is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Kannapolis, NC, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Kannapolis, NC: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Kannapolis, NC, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Kannapolis, NC can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Kannapolis, NC does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Kannapolis, NC will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Kannapolis, NC can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Kannapolis, NC; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
