5 reviews • 100 families supported • 20 years experience

I began my practice as a newborn care specialist in 2009 and worked my way up to becoming a birth and postpartum doula in 2016 followed by my certification in lactation. Birth and postpartum care has always been a passion of mine. I love providing families with the whole package. I consider myself a healer and nurturer who listens to your needs, wants, concerns and questions. I attend prenatal appointments, work with you and partner if one is present, I offer birth photography, hypnobirthing, spinning babies, breastfeeding support, & postpartum care. I do limit the amount of birth clients and postpartum clients each month depending on birth/postpartum ratio. Inclusion is very important to me ❤️

Care philosophy

Every birth matters. I take my time to get to know each family. Creating a safe space for you where you are heard and seen. I believe each person has the power to birth freely and safely with compassion.

Shira was a calming and helpful resource after our twins were born. She made PBJs for a hungry mama, cleaned pump parts, and got our babies to sleep when they were just a couple weeks old overnight.

If you are able to afford a postpartum doula , I highly recommend it. Even two nights we spent with Shira made an enormous difference for our mental health when we had a break and got some sleep. Xoxox

My name is Allison Fox, I am a mother to a 1 1/2 year old and have a strong passion for physiological birth. Birth is the most transformative experience that a family will go through, and you and your partner deserve to be well educated and informed on the way your body changes and transforms to allow your body to birth. The earlier you begin preparing birth, the better equipped you will be. Birth is intensely beautiful and sacred space for a woman to step into motherhood.

Care philosophy

My goal as a birth doula is to ensure that the mother and her partner feel supported and prepared for birth. To offer physical and emotional support throughout labor and delivery and assist according to your birth plan.

After finding out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted something different for my birthing story. My first son was premature at 26 weeks, and unfortunately, due to the circumstances, I had no decision in my son’s birth. I felt I was talked into things because I did not know anything different. After running into a friend and announcing my pregnancy to her, she shared her birthing story. Just like mine, her first birth, she didn’t have much say. In her second birth, we hired Vonda. After hearing her and her husband talk about the bond and the experience they had, I couldn’t help but reach out to Vonda to know more. My first conversation with Vonda was over the phone, and we talked for over an hour. I shared my firstborn’s birthing story. My fear of my second birth and the complications I had as a high-risk pregnancy.
By the end of the conversation, I knew I wanted her to be a part of my birthing story. Her voice was reassuring, and talking with her already put me at ease. The next few weeks, we would chat over text and phone about how my pregnancy was going. Due to some complications that put me in the hospital at 21 half weeks, I reached out to her to let her know. That’s when I met Kiana, also on her team. Kiana came out to meet me at the hospital and comfort me during this time. Vonda also chatted with me about some of my concerns and gave me the confidence to speak to my medical team about them. Because of this, I could advocate for myself and my son, which led to a better out

I completed my doula certification in 2019, as well as my prenatal yoga instructor course. I also graduated with a Holistic Health Coaching Certification in 2020. I focus highly on Preconception and Prenatal Nutrition. I am the owner of Asherah Birth and Wellness and am honored to have Doula Vonda as part of my team. She has been a birth doula for over 40 years and is recommended by OB/GYN's, midwives and previous clients. We, together provide top quality service. At the time of hiring you have access to us 24/7. We work very closely with our clients to get them prepared for their birth as best as possible physically and emotionally. We are here to guide you to feel empowered in your body, mind and spirit so you can create an incredible, connected experience from conception to birth. This can include positioning of the baby, releasing fears surrounding birth, being an emotional support and much more. We bring a sense of calm to you as you and your partner can ensure you are fully supported in every aspect through pregnancy, labor, birth and for a postpartum visit. We are happy to provide service wherever the client feels most comfortable; hospital, home or birth centre. Each client is unique in what their most desirable birth is so we remain very adaptable and flexible to help assist the client to have the birth experience they desire. As a doula we labor with the client at home and help guide the birthing couple when it would be the most ideal time to transition from labouring at home to going to the hospital or calling the midwife. This is a very important step to help fulfill the mother’s birth plan and wishes and to take this stress off the couple.

Care philosophy

It is important for laboring moms to feel safe and supported in their surroundings so that they can stay in a calm, connected state to carry out her birth plan. My goal is to help families achieve an empowered birth experience. The journey of birth is very sacred and unique to each individual as two souls adapt, transition and work in unison. A birth is something that will never be forgotten.

Birthing the Agapé way: The Agapé way is the manner in which we serve our mothers. Agape is the highest form of love, in this case, sisterly love. It is the total opposite of erotic love and describes the love Jesus showed us on earth and continues to show people today through the Holy Spirit. We give you the utmost care and respect, and extend that to your family as well.

Care philosophy

I support you in whatever way you choose to birth! Evidence-based information is provided to support you in making the most informed decisions in your birth experience. I've also been trained in Spinning Babies techniques. Prayer throughout your pregnancy and birth is something I believe makes a huge impact on mom and baby.

Through the encouragement of friends and family I decided to enter into birth work after my own positive and empowering birth experience. I’m a Certified Birth Doula through DONA International, Certified Body Ready Method® Professional, Certified Childbirth Educator, and have up to date CPR certification. While pregnant, I found there was often too little information, too much information, or worse, conflicting information relating to various aspects of pregnancy and birth. I started researching and reading up on everything I could, and it opened my eyes to the value of a reliable source of information and support!

Care philosophy

As a Christian birth doula in Jacksonville, Florida, I have had the privilege of supporting many families throughout their pregnancy, labor, and postpartum journey. My role as a birth doula and childbirth educator is to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to families as they navigate the transformative experience of bringing new life into the world!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Natalie! Being pregnant in a new state, plus needing to change providers, I began to lack confidence. As soon as I hired Natalie, she gave me the support I was looking for and I started feeling confident again. Even though I didn’t know which doctor or midwife would be on call for my birth, I knew Natalie would be there every step of the way! She was so encouraging in labor and I definitely recommend her!

When Jennifer became pregnant with her first child, she became fascinated with everything birth and began to research it all! Then, after a wonderful midwife and assistant who attended the birth of her second child, she knew she was going to be involved in birth work in some way. While pregnant with her fourth child she began her doula training. Jennifer wants women to know about the options available to them, so they are free to choose the best birth for them.

Care philosophy

Once a pregnancy is known the planning begins, making sure everything is just perfect for the new baby. Sometimes, in all the hustle and bustle, the new mother gets left out. While being a new mother is a wonderful role, we must remember that it is not her only role. As a birth doula, my focus is on the woman during this period of pregnancy and birth.

Christin was such an amazing force to have in the room during both my daughter and my son’s birth. She brings so much experience but also the most calming spirit. I am confident that my births would have looked much different (and much less how I wanted) if Christin was not present. She positioned me, helped me with breathing, encouraged me and ensured that I was able to have the natural birth I dreamed of.

She is wonderful equipping birth partners also and made my husband felt so much more prepared and helpful during birth. Christin was also so helpful in pregnancy, always answering questions and helping to guide me through even the hardest parts. She is also someone you want to spend time with and a true joy to have around. I cannot imagine birthing without her!!

Tara was amazing. She helped me prepare for my the birth of my son, I only regret that the hospital wouldn’t allow her to be with me even though hospital policy was allowing doulas at that time. She was great, though. She even came after he was born and helped me. She was and is amazing. I highly recommend her.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Jacksonville, FL.

You can browse through the available doulas in Jacksonville, FL and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.

You can also hire a doula in Jacksonville, FL in three easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated doulas in Jacksonville, FL. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  1. Get your list of Jacksonville, FL doulas: in a few hours, you will have a collection of doulas near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience and read reviews. You can chat with each doula to learn more about them.
  1. Hire a doula with confidence: schedule virtual or in-person interviews with your top doula choices. Hire your top doula and start getting the care you deserve.

While the cost of a doula can vary based on experience and the services offered, the average cost of a doula in Jacksonville, FL is $705, but typically ranges from $582 to $829. These costs are based on a representative group of 21 doulas surveyed by Meela in the Jacksonville area. The average cost of a doula in Jacksonville, FL is lower than the average cost of a doula in the state of Florida, which is $782.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Jacksonville, FL is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

When hiring a birth doula in Jacksonville, FL, you and your doula will discuss and agree upon a fee structure, and your doula will send you itemized invoices through Meela, which you can pay securely through the app.

Some insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of hiring a doula. Contact your insurance company to find out if they offer any coverage for hiring a doula; not all insurance companies do.

You can hire two types of doulas in Jacksonville, FL: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Jacksonville, FL, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Jacksonville, FL can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Jacksonville, FL does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Jacksonville, FL will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Jacksonville, FL can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Jacksonville, FL; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
