My services have at least 1 pre- and post-natal appointments, and labor support. At the prenatal visit, we will discuss your hope and fears and prior laboring experiences, develop your labor plan, and talk of what brings you comfort. At your labor, I will recommend movements and offer comfort to you and your laboring partner. I will support your voice in conversations with your medical provider and help make sure you understand what is happening. I will be keeping a log of your labor events to discuss with you at the post-natal visit. At 1 to 2 hours postnatal, after you are settled for recovery, I will take my leave. After your birth, you may schedule your postnatal visit with me. We can review your labor and any concerns you have. I have a list of providers for additional support needs.

Care philosophy

This is your journey towards meeting your child face to face. I am here to help facilitate your labor event, so that your voice is heard. I can help slow down conversations with your doctor, nurse, or midwife in case you did not have a chance to understand their request. I can support both you and your labor partner with your emotional needs during labor and you will not be alone at any moment.

Kate was an absolute livesaver for us. We were so incredibly grateful to have her join our family for the crazy early postpartum days with our second child. Kate is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. She is also remarkably industrious — I had no idea that someone could get so much done with a newborn strapped to their body. She was wonderful with our newborn, and also very helpful with our toddler. Kate completely saved my sanity when my husband went back to work and I was so sleep-deprived. Thanks to Kate, I was able to do things like shower, nap, eat, pump, and have special one-on-one time with my toddler. It was particularly crucial to have an extra set of hands around since I was recovering from a c-section. I sincerely do not know what we would have done without her. Her support helped me work on building up my breastmilk supply and reduce overall stress in the household. If we are insane enough to have a third child, we will be calling Kate to set up another contract with her. We were very sad to say goodbye at the end of our contract. Kate would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s postpartum care team, and I am telling every pregnant person I know about her. Thank you so much for all of your care and support, Kate! Thanks to you, I was able to be a human during early postpartum! A remarkable feat!

My wife and I are first time parents to our baby with GERD and colic. Her colic peak weeks were very difficult and we were at our wits end. We were losing our minds! Our baby changed the moment Terese watched her. She showed us lots of tricks for babies with reflux. Baby has been sleeping through the night since the first time she’s been here. She has come a few more times and we are definitely planning to have her again especially when she starts to roll. Terese is very calm and gentle. She is definitely the baby whisperer!!!

I have always been interested in birth, and how life is brought into this world. With a long background in Nannying and child care, I have experience in all aspects of caring for newborns and assisting families with the utmost love and respect. I was trained with Dona international in childbirth and breastfeeding education, learning all aspects of doula care and evidence based information. Whether it is in the hospital, birth center, or at home, I can help create a nurturing and calm environment to uplift and empower the birth person. In prenatal appointments and throughout the birth I can provide gentle massage, belly sifting, position changing, tens unit support, aroma therapy, guided meditation, reiki healing, cold and hot compresses, and physical/mental support to aid in pain management and provide an uplifting environment. These tools coupled with evidence based information and full emotional support, will be used to ease tension and empower the birth experience.

Care philosophy

Every birth is a beautiful blessing, and perhaps the most profound moment in many people's lives. I believe that doula support and guidance can educate, uplift and improve the birth experience and I feel so fortunate to help facilitate any birth persons journey. Emotional support, along with childbirth education, and creating a calm and meditative atmosphere are all elements used in my practice.

I really appreciated Natalie! She was very attentive, and always knew when to call. She asked me what my needs were and she cater to those her soothing voice was just what I needed when I was going through my contractions. And she was surprisingly strong enough to help me up. I would recommend Natalie to any expecting mother even my midwives who met her, loved her and said she was very nice. She showed a lot of love and care towards my newborn and I really appreciate it that. So if you’re thinking about having Natalie as a Doula, that would be a great choice, I recommend it!

Marla is truly wonderful. I was a first time mom and had no clue what to do. I also had a medical emergency 8 days postpartum and had to be hospitalized. Marla stayed with our newborn, took care of her and took care of me. She cooked for me, helped me with breastfeeding, showed us how to take care of our newborn and felt like she was family. Anyone would be lucky to work with her.

She is organized, calm, responsive, and such a wonderful resource when it comes to sorting out all of the information available about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. She made me feel so comfortable during labor and and I knew she had my back, regardless of how closely I stuck to my birth plan. She was also a massive help during our postpartum visits, and took the time to answer all of our first time parent questions (no matter how small). She even taught us how to properly tie our Solly baby wrap, setting us up for baby wearing success. Hire her!

Hi my name is JoseIyn but my family and friends call me yose. I am a holistic Birth and Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Educator, and Birthrights advocate in Orange County, California. My passion for Birth work began in 2020 when I got pregnant with my daughter Kailani. During pregnancy I prepared mentally, physically, and spiritually for labor, but did not prepare for the postpartum period. With no family or support around it made my 4th trimester a very difficult time for me and my partner. This is what made me more passionate about supporting parents during the postpartum period. I completed her Birth Worker training with Bebo Mia Inc when her daughter was only 3 months old. After the training I realized that I wanted to take a more ancestral approach in birth work, and began learning about Mexican Indigenous Birth and Postpartum Traditions. I am constantly growing and learning! As your Doula I will walk with you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Care philosophy

Our philosophy of birth is that it is designed to be a normal, natural process that your body was perfectly made to experience. I will support you and educate you on every stage of your journey.

My name is Michelle, I'm a mother of two boys, a healer and a birth and postpartum doula. My journey began when I became pregnant with my second son. I knew a home birth was the route I wanted to take, I became obsessed with learning everything I possibly could and I knew that becoming a doula is what I am I called to do. I decided to take the final step and enrolled in a doula training program, Bebo Mia support practitioner. I believe in the power and strength of a woman's body and I'm just here to remind you of that. My goal is to make sure you feel confident during all of your pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Working with Michelle was one of the best decisions we made for me, my pregnancy, and our family. From our earliest interactions during her classes in our home, she demonstrated a depth of knowledge about evidence-based birth and was so patient when answering our questions and asking questions of her own to learn more about what I wanted for my hospital birth. I also love that she took time to get to know me and my husband as individuals and a couple. Not only did it demonstrate a sense of care for our family, but enabled her to understand our dynamic which helped when supporting both of us in labor and delivery.

As we got closer to delivery, Michelle answered all my texts and took time to check in with me via phone on the most difficult days. I always felt comfortable sharing my worries and fears with Michelle—she has a natural sense of empathy which made me feel so supported. When my birth plan changed and I elected to be induced, Michelle made sure I was informed and supported in my decisions.

After my daughter was born, Michelle’s support during the postpartum period was valuable beyond measure. From supporting my physical recovery and lactation, to helping me feel pampered in the comfort of home, and being someone I could cry/vent/laugh with is something that I’ll carry close to my heart for a long time.

The birth of my daughter is something I’ll never forget, and I am so grateful Michelle is entwined in that memory.

Marquiesa really made all the difference for my recent birth experience this past January . She made me feel safe , supported and advocated for me when I was in my most vulnerable state. When I started going into labor she was there for me and gave me the encouragement I needed to have the natural birth experience I was hoping for. Marquiesa was able to walk me through different breathing techniques and positions to ease the pain and enabled me to have a smooth tear free labor. When the baby came quicker than expected Marquiesa advocated for me to have the full delivery staff ready for baby , the nurse on staff did not believe I was truly in active labor and would not call the doctor in, marquiesa advocated for me when I needed it most and had begun crowning , getting the doctor in within minutes. She was there to assist with skin to skin and ensured I was comfortable and prepared . My doctor was preoccupied and the nurse on staff mostly absent during much of the labor process , I don’t think I could have done it without my doula , she gave me the encouragement and guidance I needed and made me feel safe . I would highly recommended her to any one looking for a doula .

Laura Demercurio began her work as a Postpartum doula in 2008 after completing Nursing school. She was given the opportunity to work in the Postpartum and Nursery units where her love of the postpartum time began. This led her to take the CAPPA Postpartum doula training to gain more knowledge and start her path towards becoming a professional doula. After some time of working with women she noticed that there was something missing from the postpartum period and made it her duty to learn more. This desire led her to become a Certified INNATE Postpartum Care provider and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Since then her knowledge, practice and vision has evolved tremendously. Laura has a passion for empowering women to take charge of their health and is dedicated to the women she serves. She takes great joy in providing the traditional care that is often absent during the postpartum period and that is so needed for women, families and communities to thrive. Laura has experience working with high profile families, fully staffed homes and international travel. She is there to support women physically, emotionally and spiritually and to create a safe space where they feel nurtured, comfortable and safe.

My passion lies in supporting mothers through the postpartum journey with a holistic approach rooted in traditional medicine and women's well-being. Laura performed the closing of the hips ceremony with the postpartum bath for my second postpartum period. The ceremony is an absolute must for marking the importance of the postpartum period during a time that can feel very overwhelming and also forgotten. It brought so much to the surface and helped to remember all that my body, mind and spirit had gone through throughout pregnancy, birth and the immediate postpartum. I could feel as if my spirit was reunited with my body. There’s so much thought and nourishment that goes into this ceremony and I cant recommend the ceremony and Laura enough! Thank you so much!

With my first, I was told I shouldn’t bother to breastfeed because babies in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) don’t usually breastfeed for long. I had to fight too hard to make breastfeeding work for us, but we went on to have a successful nursing journey. This is a huge part of why I got into lactation support- I want everyone to have that same success. From prenatal visits to troubleshooting latch or returning to work, I’m here to help you meet your goals!

I have loved working with babies, kids, and their families for as long as I can remember. I was a preschool teacher and for the past 12 years, I was a nanny. I watched over 5 newborns (not all at once). I got into birth work because I believe in evidence based care for all families seeking it. I want to assist you and your new family physically, mentally, and emotionally. I'm here to hold the baby while you take some time to nap and or shower, support you in newborn care, set up a nursery, make healthy snacks, be a shoulder to cry on, an extra ear to listen, and your # 1 cheerleader! I'm definitely open to help in anyway I can, feel free to talk to me about what you're looking for! I also can provide Sibling Doula services as well!

Care philosophy

I believe that no matter what your family looks like, you deserve judgment free care during your postpartum period. There is too much parent shaming going around and I would like to change that! I believe that a parent needs to choose what is best for their family. Whether it's choosing between formula vs. body feeding, or cloth diapers vs. disposable diapers, etc I am here to back you up!

During prenatal appointments, I will help you create a birth plan, discuss how you envision your birth experience, what type of environment you prefer, who might be there, and how you imagine me supporting you (and your partner). I will also cover basic childbirth education, address any questions or concerns, and give early labor coping techniques and relaxation exercises. I am also a Certified Lactation Educator and will cover a lot of breastfeeding education so you are off to a great start. During Labor, I will meet you at your birthing location and remain there until a few hours after baby is born and you have achieved a first successful latch. Postpartum, usually within the first week, I will come visit you in your home and make sure everything is going smoothly and address any breastfeeding concerns you may have,

Care philosophy

I'm passionate about educating women and families so that they can make informed decisions that they are confident in. As a birth doula myself, it was important for me to have my doula be someone I could trust 100% and that’s why I chose Katy. She helped set the tone from the very start of my active labor. She blended in perfectly to my relaxing home birth environment and spoke strength into me at the moments I needed it most. She worked well with my midwife and got along with the family members I had present during my birth experience. And she did a pretty good job taking photos and videos! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a calm, educated, and empowering birth doula.

I am a birth worker and power embodiment alchemist that uses a variety of skills and modalities to holistically and radically empower my clients during one of the biggest adventures of their lives. I began my career empowering women as a sexual assault counselor in the non-profit sector, over a decade ago. I have since volunteered with and worked for numerous domestic and international non-profits—the majority of which have specifically served to protect women’s rights and/or inspire women-centric socio-economic development. In June of 2016, I—with my partner by my side—was able to confidently navigate a traumatic birth experience and postpartum period with my daughter, Elliotte. The experience opened my eyes to the important role that a supportive birth team plays in taking charge of one’s birth story. Now I am able to look back on that time with great pride. After training as a birth and postpartum doula with DONA International, I created Alayla Birth. The name “Alayla” is derived from the Ancient Greek goddess, Ἀλαλά (or Alalá), who was the female personification of the battle cry, or call to arms. It is also the middle-name that my partner and I gave our daughter after we not only survived, but thrived after late-onset preeclampsia, a pre-mature and unplanned cesarean birth, and a rocky first year as a result of policy-before-patient care. My experience is what inspires the Alayla Birth approach to birthwork, and the name honors the fighting spirit that I hope to nurture in all of you.

Asia is an amazing breath of fresh air in a time where you could not be more vulnerable. I didn’t have a village and yet with her support I felt totally at ease.
She was so wonderful at making sure that I had what I needed even when I didn’t even know. I feel like she will forever be a part of my life. Or at a minimum will always have a piece of my heart.

Lactation Consultant: FAQs

A certified lactation consultant is a professional that helps parents address and solve their breastfeeding problems. Many new parents believe that breastfeeding is easy, only to find more obstacles than anticipated. 92% of parents say they are having problems with breastfeeding their new baby within only 3 days.

Nursing doesn’t always come naturally.

Breastfeeding can be overwhelming and all-consuming. A lactation consultant in Irvine, CA can identify issues such as low milk supply, latching problems, or nipple engorgement. They also offer advice and techniques to help parents understand existing issues, improve how they read their baby’s cues, and feel empowered about breastfeeding despite existing social norms.

Every parent’s journey is unique, and there might be specific challenges or obstacles in your particular situation. The ultimate goal of a lactation consultant is to support parents who choose to breastfeed their children. A lactation consultant in Irvine, CA can often save parents time and energy, and also give them some peace of mind.

Many mothers also face issues where they cannot breastfeed in the workplace or lack the family support or time to ensure that their child is breastfed correctly. A lactation consultant in Irvine, CA can also provide a significant amount of moral support, diagnose breastfeeding issues, and solve latching, positioning, and scheduling issues.

To find a lactation specialist in Irvine, CA, most parents recommend creating a job post on Meela and having uniquely qualified lactation experts near you (in your budget) reach out to you through the Meela app.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

  1. Post a job for free: Answer some questions and receive responses from top-rated lactation specialists near you. It takes less than 30 seconds to post your job.
  2. Get your list of lactation consultants: In a few hours, you will have a collection of lactation consultants near you who are qualified to meet your needs. You can compare pricing, experience, and read reviews. You can chat with each lactation specialist to learn more about them.

To find a lactation consultant, you can also browse the available professionals near you in Irvine, CA and read reviews, compare pricing, experience and fit. Send the lactation consultants you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend reaching out to and interviewing at least three lactation consultants before hiring a lactation specialist near you. After interviewing, hire the most qualified lactation specialist near you and start getting the care you deserve.

The cost of a lactation consultant can vary based on a variety of factors, including their experience, their services, and their skills or specializations. Overall, the average cost of a lactation consultant in Irvine, CA is $185 per hour based on a survey of 120 lactation specialists in the Irvine, CA area.

Under the Affordable Care Act, many insurance companies should be covering the cost of lactation services. However, there are a number of factors that determine whether insurance will cover the cost of a certified lactation consultant in Irvine, CA. You should contact your insurance company for more information.

Here are some factors to consider regarding insurance and your lactation consultant cost:

  • Your insurance provider
  • Your individual health plan
  • The type of lactation specialist
  • The specific service provided

Meela’s network of lactations specialists in Irvine, CA offer both in-home lactation support sessions or virtual lactation support sessions. Both types of sessions typically last between 1 and 3 hours. In your sessions, your lactation specialist will spend time understanding the issues you are facing and work with you and your baby to diagnose the issues have and also provide specific guidance and hands-on practice and exercises.

Lactation consultants help parents understand the best way to comfortably breastfeed their baby and help them navigate breastfeeding social norms. They can also help reduce stress and anxiety about breastfeeding, or help with specific challenges (such as breastfeeding twins, for example). Other parents might just want emotional support that doesn’t currently exist within their family, workplace, or network or friends.

Certified lactation consultants can also help with specialized issues that may arise with premature children or sick children. A parent may not have thought about breastfeeding help until they notice that their baby isn’t gaining weight properly, and finally realize that they might need some support and knowledge before continuing to breastfeed. On the other hand, some parents might prepare with a lactation consultant months before the baby is born.

Whether you are planning ahead or are thinking about a lactation now that you are having breastfeeding issues or concerns, a lactation consultant can be incredibly helpful and useful for parents.

Lactation counselors in Irvine, CA can often help parents with breastfeeding and offer breastfeeding advice, training, and troubleshooting. Many of these counselors have taken the CLC exam, or the Certified Lactation Counselor exam. A certified lactation counselor has typically undergone 45 hours of training.

On the other hand, a certified lactation consultant in Irvine, CA has undergone a specific amount of clinical training hours, which is not a requirement to become a lactation counselor. These lactation consultants are certified by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants, as well. A lactation consultant typically has a bachelor’s degree in a health field and has undergone 90 hours of training and has somewhere between 300 and 1,000 hours of experience with parents.

Lactation consultants in Irvine, CA are often working with other healthcare teams in collaboration with postpartum nurses to ensure that parents understand how to breastfeed their babies. Both lactation consultants and lactation counselors can provide support, develop feeding plans, and offer actionable advice with respect to breastfeeding.

The best approach is for parents to hire a lactation specialist early in their pregnancy so that they can help you prepare both mentally and physically. Parents don’t need to wait until your baby is born to begin thinking about breastfeeding support and education.

Some parents might be anxious about breastfeeding in public or feel like they want access to a breastfeeding expert to help both inform and support them. A lactation consultant in Irvine, CA can also help young professional parents schedule their breastfeeding efficiently so that they can return to work quicker, while others might specialize in helping with breastfeeding anxiety issues.

It is never too late to hire a certified lactation consultant in Irvine, CA. These breastfeeding consultants can also offer emotional breastfeeding support that can be valuable to those who lack family or workplace support. A lactation consultant can also be critical in identifying warning signs that might indicate more serious growth or developmental issues.

There are many documented benefits to breastfeeding, and parents often believe that it will be an easy and natural experience. Unfortunately, many parents run into issues such as low milk supply, nipple engorgement, or latching problems that can affect their baby’s health. These lactation specialists can be useful for troubleshooting, advice, or emotional support.

Certified lactation consultants can strengthen the bond between parents and their babies through breastfeeding advice, tips, and support. This might include showing parents how to help their baby latch properly, establishing feeding schedules, or dealing with sore nipples or engorgement. A lactation consultant can help new parents better understand their baby’s needs in general, and monitor the baby’s growth and development.

Lactation specialists in Irvine, CA also offer emotional support and help parents breastfeed more efficiently so that they can get back to work and allow them to better manage expectations. Many parents face issues where they cannot breastfeed in the workplace, or do not have the family support or time to ensure that their child is breastfed properly and with care. These expert consultants can also provide a significant amount of moral support, diagnose breastfeeding issues, while also solving issues such as latching, positioning, and scheduling.
