As a birth worker, My care experience is limited due to previous work within the military. Since switching back to civilian life, my passion and focus on the birth world have taken the center of my life. In 2020, I leaped into faith and began a hybrid program through Jenny Joseph's "Common sense-birth" towards becoming a Licensed Midwife! I provide care from the beginning stages of pregnancy; this includes getting to know you, your family, and your partner on a personal level before birth. My care includes two doulas' during the second prenatal visit so that you're familiar with both myself and my backup doula. Attending your prenatal appointment to meet with your midwife before the big day is essential to supporting your desired birth outcome. I help properly prepare for postpartum care, from meal prep, light housework, organization, sibling care, and traditional birth celebration ceremonies. During the first 24 hours post-delivery, I will honor you with a "victory meal" either prepared by me (menu to be provided) or preferred meal pick up. Two check-ins during the first 72 hours and 4 weeks later. This is to asset moods, changes, and if more help or further support may be needed. Referrals and resources to be provided.

Care philosophy

My care philosophy is "Bringing traditions back to birth and healing." I am a believer in honoring traditions through prenatal and postpartum care. As an Afro-Indigenous woman, my birth work is rooted in ancestral practices and my goal is to remind my clients, you too, are here thanks to those who came before you. My care is limited to BIPOC only.

I am trained in postpartum adjustment, newborn characteristics, care, feeding and development and the promotion of parent-infant bonding. I'm experienced in supporting families through their postpartum experience. Coming into the home during the fourth trimester following birth, my role is to provide education, non- judgmental support and companionship; and to assist with newborn care and family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tasks. As a postpartum doula I will offer evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and can make appropriate referrals when necessary.

Care philosophy

My goal is to facilitate the transition to parenthood by supplying reliable and factual information, reassurance and hands-on support with children and household organization. By mothering the mother, I enable the new mother to recover from pregnancy and birth and focus her energy on bonding with her new baby.

I got started in birth work after the birth of my second daughter. I had an amazing water birth at a birthing center with the support of my best friend (in the capacity of birth support) and my boyfriend. My experience was so incredible that I want every mother to experience what I did (or as close as possible). My goal is for each mother supported to have exactly the experience they want.

Care philosophy

Women deserved to be worshipped before, during, and after birth in whatever way they need to be. My goal is to support a mother in whatever fashion she needs by providing unlimited support and resources.I believe in the natural process of birth and supporting it and would like every mother to experience the beauty that birth can be, free from the interventions of the medical institution.

I started my doula business after the birth of my son. I was transferred from home to hospital, and it was absolutely not the birth I was expecting, nor desiring, and after being abandoned by my midwife, I felt scared, alone, and did not know my options at all. My son whose birth inspired my business, will be 5 this year. I went on to have a surrogate birth of twins, and discovered the realm of high-risk and multiples birth and my passion just grew and grew. I now train other doulas and commit my life to fertility, prenatal, birth and postpartum education, because education IS power. I support all the way from pre-conception to a year postpartum and offer several different package options.

Care philosophy

It is important to me that a birthing person feels safe in their birth space, wherever that may be. My priority is to keep them informed, confident, and feeling safe, during all times of their birth, whether that be completely unassisted, or an elected cesarean, all mamas deserve CHOICE and SAFETY. Autonomy is my philosophy.

Caring for families has been my passion for many years. In 1984 I became a nurse and first time mom. My career in women and childrens health began that same year and I haven't looked back. I have raised 3 wonderful children and I'm a proud grandmother to 2 adorable boys. Over the years I have had the opportunity to assist in the care of families in the hospital, physicians office and homes. Currently I am employed as a childbirth educator and lactation counselor teaching evidenced based baby care, breastfeeding, prepared childbirth and infant cpr. I would love to have a conversation on ways I can assist you on your journey to parenthood.

Care philosophy

I believe that every birthing family needs and deserves nurturing before during and after the birth of their baby.

My husband and I attended a breastfeeding class that Marsha taught and we really loved her teaching style and approach with new parents. I left that class feeling confident and ready to breastfeed. After I had my son, maybe 3 weeks in, I was having some latch issues and I called Marsha and she encouraged me over the phone but also came to the house and helped me figure out what was and wasn’t working. We tried different holds and latch techniques until I felt comfortable. We have had her back a few times since then and she has helped me gain self confidence as a new mom. I was so overwhelmed in the first few months and I am not sure what I would have done without her! I would recommend her to anyone I know with babies.

A postpartum doula in Clearwater, FL is meant to help the entire family and their role is not just limited to the birthing parent and newborn. A doula provides physical and emotional support to parents and siblings, but they also offer information and advice regarding how to feed, bathe, swaddle, and soothe the baby.

They also often help with postpartum depression issues, and are considered child care “consultants” rather than medical professionals. Many postpartum doulas in Clearwater, FL offer a range of services that can help with parents trying to adjust to a newborn child. These services often include:

  • Sibling care
  • Assist with household chores
  • Parent-baby bonding
  • Physical and emotional recovery
  • Support to parents and extended family

A postpartum doula in Clearwater, FL can have a lasting positive impact on a family and help them feel more confident about their parenting role and the way that they feed and nurture their baby. They might offer advice regarding feeding, bathing, and parent-baby bonding.

It is important to note that a postpartum doula might offer advice but is not expected to provide medical care of any kind or serve as a replacement to an accredited physician. Postpartum doulas are also not qualified to prescribe medication.

Many new parents want to know about certified postpartum doulas and how exactly they are certified. Since the demand for postpartum doulas has greatly expanded in the last several years, the number of reputable postpartum doula training and certification programs has grown in Clearwater, FL. Training criteria can differ from program to program, but most follow a similar curriculum which includes core academic curriculum and practical hours and real-life care experience.

One of the most common national postpartum doula training certifications comes from DONA International. A postpartum doula usually receives about 27 hours of practical training before they are a certified postpartum doula.

There are also CAPPA-certified postpartum doulas in Clearwater, FL, as well. These doulas were certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, an international organization that certifies doulas and other childbirth educators/professionals.

As a reminder, because postpartum doulas are not trained to be a medical professional and diagnose and treat medical conditions, a certification is not required for them to practice.

As their names suggest, a birth doula’s main priority is to provide support services before, during and in the moments immediately after childbirth. A postpartum doula’s obligations usually begin after the birth, for several weeks or months. In many cases, your birth doula will also be a trained and certified postpartum doula, which can provide a continuity of care that many parents find extremely valuable.

Many parents want to know whether a postpartum doula or a baby nurse would meet their needs and expectations. A baby nurse might be focused on making sure that a baby sleeps or feeds properly, but that might be the extent of their role. A postpartum doula generally offers more holistic services for their clients.

A postpartum doula in Clearwater, FL is expected to be more involved with the family as a whole. They might remain involved in sibling care or also provide emotional support to the partner as both parents adjust to becoming new parents. This may even include support for older siblings, light housework, and even meal prep. A postpartum doula provides more physical, emotional, and informational support than a baby nurse.

You can hire two types of doulas in Clearwater, FL: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.
